  1. Was watching on the MLB network - they said earlier that Tauchman has the best BA in all baseball in the 7th inning or later.
  2. I should have been a little more detailed in my post, but I was more so talking about the likes of Luzardo or some other higher end multi year option. I like the idea of 5/6 years of Brown/Wicks/Horton opposed to trading possibly two of them for someone like Luzardo. I’m fine with adding a cheap, veteran rental to eat innings and help get us through this year.
  3. Yea, personally, I’m not making a move for another SP. I’d rather ride with our current guys and see what Brown/Wicks/Horton become. I’d hate to move any of them tbh.
  4. Same mold as Alonso, would help us (probably more-so considering position), but he’s just a rental.
  5. I’m still very much in the “make me hurt Jed if you trade or don’t do anything outside of rental RP” crowd. I think Alonso would help this team, but I’m not a fan of trading for a rental of his caliber when the team is a fringe playoff team. If this was 2016-esque, yes trade assets for the top rental guys who could put you over the top. For this deadline, go for Vladdy Jr or Kyle Tucker (Of course they have to be available, which it sounds like both very well could be) level of guys. Give me someone that could help this team beyond this year and try like hell to lock them up (Tucker, yes please). Make me hurt in a good way Jed.
  6. That starting 3 would be in the bottom half of the current NL playoff standings.
  7. Tommy Pham to the IL, so we get to miss that fun. Also, Rosenthal reporting that the Padres are pursuing Crochet.
  8. I sure hope they can break the trend, but Alzolay is the closest thing the Cubs have had to an internally developed closer since Rondon.
  9. You’re not alone. Most everyone here has been wanting Jed to add a true superstar middle of the order bat for some time. He’s went with the “a bunch of solid to above average hitters” vs going stars and scrubs. Personally I’ve liked the Rangers (Obviously) and Phillies approach better. Add stars/great bats and figure out the rest later. We’re at the point of no return with this core however.
  10. Wouldn’t a more relevant stat be SB against and how often teams are running on you? I don’t really like the thrown out stat because if teams are going to be more aggressive against you and maybe attempt SB with guys who don’t run as much, you’ll have a lot more opportunities to throw guys out that might not be great base stealers in the first place. I haven’t dug too deep into the data but this shows we are 23rd in opponent SB per game - https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/opponent-stolen-bases-per-game. Which is a 9 SB different from 23rd to 10th using 60 games as the base. Around a 24 stolen base difference across 162 games from 23rd just to 10th. Now the question becomes is that a lot or does that difference not carry much weight.
  11. Just an FYI as you may of missed the news yesterday. Counsell confirmed Merryweather is out until after the all-star break and no time table yet for Almonte.
  12. Only if it’s a multi year piece imo. Honestly, I’m not sure this current offense/position core is good enough, but I’m not certain Jed can sell a retool and maintain his role either. I could get on board with a Vlad Jr type move if we truly try to extend him. I dream of an Olson type move at some point from Jed, but not sure it’s ever going to happen.
  13. This is a horsefeathers show of an org right now. I don’t know exactly what needs to happen to turn things around, but something has to change. Same horsefeathers different day
  14. Agreed. The flip side could be said about Merryweather. Now if someone wants to go after Jed for giving Smyly/Mancini/Barnhart two year contracts along with picking up Hendricks option, Mastro/Madrigal, and going mutiple seasons without having a longterm 1b/3b/Catcher locked up, I'm all for giving Jed some flak there.
  15. I know you're not referring to me specifically, but I've literally not said a negative thing about Swanson (Outside of maybe some of his lackadaisical throws this year). You and I both could see the appeal of trading for Adames, even if he was batting .197 in a little over a 100 PA at that point in 2021. The point remains, I'll praise leadership that actually isn't afraid to make moves like that when there is a glaring hole on your team. Busch was the first time seeing Jed take a leap, but we need more of that at some point.
  16. May 21st 2021, the 21-23 Brewers make a trade for Willy Adames to fill a glaring hole at SS. The Brewers finish the year 95-67 (74-44 post trade) to win the Central division. I fully understand there are some trades you need to wait until the trade deadline to make, but it irks me to no end when teams, who have playoff intentions, have a glaring hole and refuse to make the team better until the deadline. We came into this season needing another leverage arm and a middle of the order bat. Now, we might have the worst catching combo in the league and there is little to no hope there. If Jed is serious about this year, we need to make a move for a catcher sooner rather than later. We have little margin for error with our current construction (Subpar BP, bad defense, and an offense that is slumping) and then you roll out two catchers who absolutely can't hit, can't throw out any baserunners, and struggle to actually catch the ball, It's a bad recipe for a team already teetering on the edge.
