  1. the cardinals "letting" heyward walk and trading for that duck dynasty looking [expletive] charlie blackmon would probably very strongly appease the fanbase
  2. vlad is basically one of those guys like moyer or maddux or whatever that you should just never compare anyone to ever. his bat on ball skills were just so completely unrivaled that it's just silly to suggest anyone might be in the same class as him.
  3. what the hell league he been playin in?
  4. this is only tangentially related, but i finally have bluetooth in my car and i also got a magnetic phone mount and now i am the laziest person alive. i basically throw my phone at the holder and it sticks and whatever music/podcast i've been listening to clicks on as soon as i start the car. it is glorious. the bluetooth is to be expected, but people legit gasp when they see the magnetic phone mount in action. highly recommended.
  5. thank you if anything, that drought that i didn't experience like 80% of, adds a little intrigue. i'd rather win championships, but my desire to win a WS has just about nothing to do with eliminating the "curse" thing, outside of the cool element it would add to the narrative (i'm sure theo loves this part). i mean, yeah, it sucks that they haven't won one in that long, i guess, but i wouldn't feel any better about the cubs had they won one in 1969 or something (or even 84). i'd almost rather have the drought than a random championship somewhere along the way there...but either way it doesn't matter much. i generally agree, but it does count for something that my parents have never seen the cubs in the world series. or that my grandmother loved the cubs and lived a long life and never saw them win. it's not a huge thing, but it is kind of haunting. i'd definitely feel at least a little differently about the cubs if they'd won in 84 or whatever, even though i wasn't born yet.
  6. ;(
  7. i would prefer we stop signing old white dudes and start signing jason heyward. that offseason would not make me happy at all unless the young pitcher we got for soler was amazing (and he wouldn't be).
  8. when i saw the preview for the first video, i instantly remembered the jacket from the garbage time video and was all excited that katie nolan went to u of i and i didn't know it. THANKS FOR NOTHING GET A NEW JACKET TONY
  9. hate lackey the man, tepid on lackey the pitcher, hate the amount of money, thank god it's not three years.
  10. given the success rate for big money long-term contracts, especially to aging pitchers, the player doesn't have to be irrational at all for this to work out well for the initial team. just because you get such great age 30-32 seasons from a guy that someone's willing to beat the last four years of the deal in place doesn't mean that you still aren't better off letting him go. that said, i do think these opt-outs do favor the players, just only very slightly. i'd much rather give a player one of those instead of additional money if that's what it takes to get the contract signed.
  11. try deleting your account and not making a new one
  12. i would have had arrieta 3rd, but at this stage i don't care about these awards at all beyond the extent that they matter to guys i like. i love jake and i'm sure he's thrilled so YAYAYAYAY.
  13. down with megathreads, start a rich hill thread ct
  14. rich hill feels like such a good bet to either be really good or flame out immediately that i kind of wonder if you could go ahead and "guarantee" him a rotation spot with the knowledge that if it turns out you don't want him in the rotation, he's going to be so bad that no one is going to give you any trouble for going back on your promise. give him hammel's spot and have jason in the wood role to start the season. i would love to sign rich hill because i always liked him and it is fun that he is good again, but it just seems like such a long-shot that this actually works for any length of time. on a one-year deal, though, who cares sign him.
  15. other teams spending assets on relievers while the cubs casually slide into a successful pitching staff of two-three real starters, two-three "absolutely never thrice through the order" starters, and a bullpen built largely out of reclaimed starters would make me very happy indeed.
  16. this is me. i have trained myself to do the "show's back, wait a beat, now hit play" maneuver with a good degree of accuracy, though.
  17. what about our other questions/suggestions
  18. the pitchers for whom we can trade http://i.imgur.com/buwhNW9.jpg
  19. i sure do hate the fact that a [expletive] nerd in a bow tie is the face of baseball reporting
  20. you dumbasses he's just being tyga for halloween
  21. study the correlation between being a limo driver and knowing whether todd walker is a dick
  22. i honestly wouldn't be all that surprised if it is the worst Cubs team for the next 3-4 years; i say that though, treating this team as the 90-win pythag it was 96 third-order wins
