    If ARod had stayed at SS, there could be debate. But he didn't. So there's not. Ernie Banks is another that I think would be way near the top of the list if he had spent his entire career at shortstop. Maybe there could also be a utility category for players such as Banks, Biggio, and Arod, who are clearly great players, but who switched positions throughout their careers. if banks played his whole career at short, his defense would have been such a negative by the end that no amount of offense would have saved him (not that he was putting up much offense by the end anyway). i don't believe that's the case with a-rod.

    What exactly does a #3 pitch like? I think those arguing Marquis is not a #3 pitcher have some unrealistic expectations of what a #3 pitcher is. If you compare Marquis to the NL Central (the division in which the Cubs compete), He is actually pitching good enough to be a #2. To go down the list: Marquis 4.18 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP $4.75MM in 2007 Reds -- Arroyo 5-12 4.51 ERA 1.43 WHIP $4.5MM this year 2yr/$25MM extension :shock: Compared to Arroyo, Marquis is the bargain of the century. Astros -- Jennings 2 - 7 6.15 ERA 1.53 WHIP $5.5MM Again Marquis is a relative Bargain. Cardinals (Take your pick) Wells 5.27 ERA 1.56 WHIP $4MM Looper 5.25 ERA 1.41 WHIP $4.5MM Wainwright 4.21 1.47 WHIP $400K Pirates Armas (to start the year?) 6.31 ERA 1.62 WHIP Brewers Suppan 4.84 ERA 1.52 WHIP $6.2MM Capuano 4.96 ERA 1.49 WHIP $3.2MM Although I hate to admit I may have been wrong about the Marquis signing, it looks like Hendry got himself quite the bargain for this year atleast. yay the cubs are better than the other losers in the worst division

You started both the threads. Turns out Ramirez just has fluid build up with no structural damage and Lee isn't injured at all. In other words, the thread titles sounded "worrying" as Mizzou stated. I agree. i dont think it was too dumb to start a thread called "is aramis ramirez injured" since he's now missed several games and his return is still uncertain. you can say the fluid isn't an injury, but it might as well have been given the effects it has had.

    Why now? The testing is still pretty lax. well home runs are down by more than 10% this year - if anyone can give me an explanation for that other than performance-enhancing drugs, i'd sure like to hear it randomness weather baseballs that aren't juiced

    ok guys it's almost gametime and ankiel will be hitting soon. we all know that he will homer in his first at bat, thus resulting in the every person in the city of st louis having a collective orgasm, so there's no point i speculating on that. i say we all predict what field he will homer to. my guess is directly over the opposite field (left) foul pole.

    WHAT IS MORE LIKELY barry bonds figured out a way to cheat in plain sight of major league baseball and no one stopped him and no other players picked up on it and mimicked it some guy who hates barry bonds made up some stuff about an elbow pad and even had the bizarre audacity to claim to know, within a 25 hr range, how many more home runs barry hit with the pad than he would have hit without it

Theriot's .710 OPS isn't that great. That could definitely be upgraded. I'm just saying he's the best option the Cubs have right now. Tell me, why do you and everyone worship the almighty OPS? OBP is much more important. I don't know if it's much more important in general, but it is pretty stupid to bash a guy because of a low OPS when he's clearly not a power hitter. Most players don't hit for power, those who do should be looked at in a positive way, rather than those who don't being looked at in a negative way. power isn't an either/or type of thing, all players have power to different degrees, just as all players have on base ability to different degrees. the fact that theriot's power is very small is most definitely a detriment to the team. you can say that "most players don't hit for power," but the fact remains that, of the 28 mlb shortstops with enough ab's to qualify for the batting title, ryan theriot is 26th in isop. ryan theriot is bad at hitting for power even when compared only to his contemporaries who, like him, play the position of which least power is expected.

There is no upgrade available at short and Theriot is a big part of this offense. Heres the proof. cubs are playing small ball small ball=sb+singles sb+singles=Riot that is not proof. at all. proof would be numbers showing how his performance is above and beyond what we could reasonably hope to achieve via an alternative avenue. what you've given us is a bland statement that means nothing. sb+singles=riot? come on.
