  1. don't forget routine flyballs where the hitter wills the center fielder to fall down I saw a kid in the independent Northern league (grittiest kid I've ever clapped an eye on, FWIW) place a routine flyball right between two fielders so they'd purposely collide and let the ball drop. 32 years watching the game, the grittiest play I've ever seen. pete rose was a hell of a player

  3. "ryan theriot" = 169,000 "david eckstein" = 303,000 "manny ramirez" = 1,360,000 "ryan theriot" grit = 287 "david eckstein" grit = 684 "manny ramirez" grit = 12,000 google's grit ratio (no grit hits divided by grit hits) theriot = 588 eckstein = 442 ramirez = 113
  4. oh my god, productive outs how could we have forgotten productive outs maybe we should start over
  5. fixed i say we all start voting shares for how we're going to divide up the sweet cash we'll make when we sell this baby to the highest bidder
  6. there should be a multiplier for guys who played hockey or football in high school or college too it doesn't matter if they were punters though. if anything it makes them better.
  7. you could fudge it and make it GRITFactor Golfing Rarely In The Fall these dudes always play deep into the postseason
  8. GRIT needs to stand for something too, so it can be G.R.I.T. Guys who Relish InTangibles something like that
  9. are you really just not going to look at the numbers of theriot compared to all the other shortstops in the major leagues? here they are again, these are theriot's rankings when compared to all other major league ss who qualified for the batting title (there are 26). OPS: .672 (22nd) OBP: .326 (17th) SLG: .346 (25th) BA: .266 (19th) if you're going to do that, you'd better a heck of a lot of defense, and although opinions vary on how good he is, i don't think anyone really believes he's outstanding.
  10. holy soapdropping god is this unacceptable the cubs laying an egg in the playoffs made me sad, this makes me really really angry
  11. wear cubs stuff and act confused when the rockies take the field
  12. I hope to get in on the ground floor with this case after passing the bar. :D seems like a petty natural entry point
  13. The shareholders know the offers on the table. They're the ones who matter in the publicly held corporation. It's a requirement in every state, to my knowledge. Corporations have a fiduciary duty to their investors in these situations to accept the highest bid (with limitations that likely won't apply here). If MLB comes in and rejects the highest bidder, they will be facing a lawsuit from shareholders that will be unbelievably costly. It's going to be fascinating to keep an eye on in the coming months. this may prove to be a pretty important post in the next few months, i hope people take note of it
  14. ive heard people say that when talking about how they just borrowed money to buy a car or whatever.
  15. none f baseball
  16. if we honestly believe soriano hits better with no one on base, we should probably keep leading him off and letting him start the game and bat behind the pitcher I'll amend your statement slightly and say that if we honestly believe a hugely expensive power-hitting free agent hits better with no one on base, we shouldn't sign him. Since we did sign him, I'd like to see him drive in someone other than the invisible man. 70 RBI is pathetic for a .560 SLG. If some of his personal numbers suffer a bit I'd be willing to accept that if his RBI's go up. Propping up personal stats of a selected player is not a valid reason to reduce run production. i completely agree that we shouldn't have signed him. that being said, i do not in anyway believe that he forgets how to hit as soon as there's a guy on base. he should be hitting lower because he's a high-power low-obp guy, not because of any false situational silliness.
  17. every person who doesn't send back tickets is free money for the cubs
  18. Why? did Soriano and Ramirez tell him when they signed their massive contracts that they only planned on trying through September, and then theyd half ass their way through the next 3 games? He put together a playoff team. Nothing he did caused this collapse. 85 wins in a terrible division. it's not a collapse, it's a natural conclusion.
  19. Not sure I can agree with that. I do agree with you, but looking back we had a lot of great moments this season. Back in April, I really thought we would be around .500 this season and we blew that under the water. We've had rookie contributions that in my opinion came out of nowhere. I certainly didn't expect this season from Marmol or Soto for that matter. Yes I am disappointed for not winning the world series but we've had rookie contributions we just haven't seen in a while. I mean Kevin Hart, what a return on investment for Bynum?!! I just didn't think we would be here even after all the money spending but we are here. im not familiar with the phrase "blew that under the water," but i can only assume that it has the opposite meaning of "blew that out of the water," as we basically met the expectation that we would be a mediocre .500 team

  21. maybe 2080, assuming baseball still exists then, which i doubt 2008 is going to suck
  22. i say i wish we'd missed. this sucks more than no playoffs at all would have, and i imagine the 80 win season a playoff miss would have required would have had hendry and co closer to gone
  23. there's no way we're adding payroll. i hope everyone liked this years team, cause we'll be seeing it again also, i hoped everyone really enjoyed 85 wins and a sweep in the playoffs, because that's MORE than we're going to see for the next few years
  24. if we start kerry it better be because we're having a tour of the bullpen game and we're cool with him only throwing 45 pitches
