  1. i typed a bunch of names into baseball reference and didn't come up with much. that said, it's important to remember that, as putting up crazy minor league numbers goes, bryant really does have all the best of it. this is in no way meant to discount his prospect status or anything, but a lot of guys who go on to become big-time hitters are ONE playing professionally before they are 21 and TWO not held down in the minors to maximize pre-free agency value.
  2. len speculating that today could be the day for a position player to pitch
  3. this has been one of my favorite games of the whole tournament. so much nonsense.
  4. Even if next year Bryant, Baez, Alcantara and maybe Soler come up and mash, get us into the playoff hunt and turn us into the hot young team a high priced FA could see fitting in and winning rings with for many years? If we are offering similar money as all the other teams, I'd like our chances based off our projected future. we're not going to have real money until 2020. we'll get horrifically outbid by half the league if he's really up for grabs.
  5. costa rica trying to score here is like rocky finally fighting southpaw
  6. lol at that corner
  7. FUN FACT if stanton actually becomes a real free agent we will never sign him in a million years
  8. let's make things interesting and start throwing at people to punish ramos for watching that flyball
  9. all indications have been that the ptbnl will be nothing, there's no way we're getting alcantara
  10. there is a part of me that wants to let russell come play ss and tell castro to put on twenty pounds of muscle because he's playing third base.
  11. That's it. You guys win. Most of you seem to be completely adverse to anyone that doesn't fit your mindset. It's true that I'm not a dyed in the wool Cub fan like the bitter ilk here and I don't belong. NO i like you. please stay.
  12. my initial reaction to this is pretty positive, but i'll wait to hear what tom morello thinks before i make up my mind
  13. welcome to gam thread i am treymon cubs spit hot fire no one can stop them nats will try to win what a bad idea celebrate this game by still being hung over probably you just can't drink like you used to when will you learn : (
  14. stolen from like a million people on twitter, but how incredible would it be if it turned out lebron tricked wade into opting out for no reason and the heat didn't even make him a realistic offer?
  15. His nickname (on his BR page) is "Big game James". Also, he threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball in a world series, picking up the only win his team would get in that series. If KC makes it in the playoffs this year, he'll get a ton of credit for being that team's #1 pitcher. I don't put any stock into this, but I still have a hard time believing there won't be a GM (or 2 or 3) that will give him an 80-100Mil contract based on that type of stuff. Hell, it could be argued that KC gave up one of the best prospects in baseball for him based on that type of stuff. Who cares what his nickname is? His most recent playoff appearance was 2011 and he gave up 7 ER in 5 IP. Nobody is going to base their judgement on his ability on 2008. We do. You literally just made a sweeping generalization about his "reputation" (whatever that means) not being "that amazing," which sort of makes the fact that he has a fairly widely utilized nickname that actually has the words BIG GAME in it sort of a thing. yeah, but i imagine a lot of that nickname is just due to the fact that his name is james.
  16. let's play the same game with rizzo and see what his comp would be if we gave him a magic 90 points of batting average! stop trying to make olt happen. it's not going to happen.
  17. It jusy makes me sad because it gives glimpses as to how much of a better place the Cubs would be in if he had panned out. If the Cubs had gotten league-average production from the playing time given to Olt, Schierholtz, Coghlan, Sweeney and Kalish, they'd be over .500 and in the playoff picture. league average for what? bench players? starters? if it's the latter, it's not exactly news that we'd be good if we were average at all the positions where we aren't well above average. anyone would. if it's the former, i'm not sure i agree.
