  1. also, the 95 cubs finished 73-71 in a shortened season. only four games out of a playoff spot, thanks to an eight-game winning streak (including three walkoff wins!) down the stretch. i long for a season like that.
  2. i LOVED hojo, entirely because harry always called him hojo and one time he hit a walkoff hr into the basket
  3. i could be completely misremembering this, but i believe my first most-hated cub was joe kmak. 95 was my first year as a cub fan, and he was on the team that year, so this at least passes the smell test. as i remember it, the cubs were in extra innings against someone (phillies? could easily be wrong) and joe kmak was on third base. the pitcher threw a wild pitch and kmak took one overly cautious step towards home before making a horrified face and watching the ball bounce away. harry went nuts and i was infuriated, at least in part because i was in little league at the time and everyone knows that you always take the next base when the ball gets by the catcher.
  4. Yeah, moving positions at this point caught me off guard. I do kinda think we'll see him in September or even sooner now. I doubt the service time is as important as it is with Bryant since Javy's not the virtual lock to be somewhere between an above average hitter to MVP caliber and is more likely to talk extension I would think. Also, he'll need to go through a period of striking out 40% of the time, so it would be nice to get that over with. Most important part to me. If the Cubs maintain hope of contending next year, barring a big trade Baez probably needs to be good to make it happen. Might as well burn his traditional terrible first 100 or so PAs now. i don't know how much we care about stuff like this, but i imagine that burying those 100 pa's at the end of this season would draw a lot less attention than throwing him out there at the beginning of next year. on the other hand, if we pretend it's possible to damage javy's ego, he might be better off not getting those first 100 pa's and then having the season suddenly end.
  5. i had a lot of hate for felix heredia back in the day
  6. you want your jackson earlier? the moment after jaxon leaves the game in the 4th inning is the best part of the week. it's the longest possible time before more jaxon!
  7. We used to have NSBB AIM chat rooms for Cubs games. I miss those days. FLASHCHAT4EVA
  8. DATED ALERT one of my cardinal fan friends made nomar's shrieking in pain face his msn messenger avatar like ten minutes after that happened and i blocked him
  9. also, unless someone talks me out of it, i think i am a chelsea fan.
  10. BIG NEWS i have been playing a LOT of fifa the last couple weeks here and i am getting a lot smarter at soccer. i know how transfers work and what all the different tournaments are and everything. i will probably be the smartest person in this thread in another couple weeks or so.
  11. well played
  12. yes. i'd never heard of it before mojo either, but i think it's really spot-on and i've been spotting it in my daily life now as well.
  13. it's because his face is too tiny
  14. yeah he's practically senior lake at this point
  15. I was so excited when we brought him over with the Ichiro/Hideki Matsui hybrid comps. pecota promised me he was going to be a .300/.400/.500 guy. i'm still bitter. That was meph i am pretty sure you are joking but this still made me question my memory so i had to check. http://viewfromthebleachers.com/blog/2007/12/15/projecting-fukudome/ pecota had him at .289/.401/.504.
  16. THIS TIME IT COUNTS that's why we're letting the worst player on either team start and lead off and play a position he sucks at and if he wants he can stay up to bat until he hits a home run
  17. I was so excited when we brought him over with the Ichiro/Hideki Matsui hybrid comps. pecota promised me he was going to be a .300/.400/.500 guy. i'm still bitter.
  18. 1/$5 with 12 team option years at the same price
  19. do we change wild card here or via pm
  20. home run derby will soon just be cubs and joey gallo and stanton redundant
  21. there are a lot of players on our team who are terrible. i think our plan should probably be to make of them go away instead of one of our good players.
