  1. Even though it was the nickname of a former Cub Rodney Scott, I think Juan "Cool Breeze" Pierre would be a good one.
  2. Being in business for myself I make my own schedule. Ha! Eat your livers!
  3. It seems to me that Wuertz's delivery takes too long or is to easily seen by batters. Can't the coaches teach some deceptive delivery techniques or is that going to mess with their mechanics too much? Did I just miss Aardsma having that much speed or has he somehow upped it a little recently? The kid was really bringing it today. And with good movement too.
  4. Even though he gave up a few hits in his second inning Aardsma looked good.....and 97mph? Thats good heat. Brownlie's curve looked good too.
  5. Sung to the tune of John Henry Jim Hendry When Jim Hendry was a little baby, Sittin' on his mama's knee', Well he picked up a cell phone and a Krispy Creme Doughnut Sayin' this is gonna be the death of me lord, lord, But Krispy Kreme is worth it all to me. Well Jim Hendry called the GM of the Pirates, And he talked 'til he got ARam, I'll give ya Bobby Hill and a couple of Frosty Malts Sayin' Pirates doin' penance is okay with me lord, lord, Dunkin' Doughnuts been so very good to me. Now Jim Hendry was a lookin' for a short stop, But he didn't want to pay the fee, So he settled for Cedeno and a contract for Neifi Sayin' catch the ball don't worry 'bout the hits swing free Its the Twinkies I just ate not me.
  6. How about Ted Turner as owner and I'd keep Hendry, for continuity if nothing else. Or maybe throw a hefty salary at Jocketty or something. Would he entertain something like that? Ted Turner is about like Cuban. Anyone who can afford to give the UN a billion $ has got to be into spending. And he's been a baseball owner himself too.
  7. I know this conjecture has been on here before, but to hear it on a major media portal like CNN has got to mean there is something to it, no?
  8. Yes, the article on the cubs mlb site was one of genuine and exuberant praise for Grissom. I'm glad to see Pagan get a shot of course, but his and especially Maddux's praise for Grissom was good to read.
  9. Does anyone know a place where I can find public domain photos of the Cubs players past and present? Also, can anyone recommend good software for working with video and photographgic images to post to the web? Thanks to any and all replies upfront.
  10. I agree. I would rest a lot easier if this thing was either confirmed or denied by a credible source....I.E. Bruce. I would say don't get your hopes up unnecessarily. Repeat. Kill joy.
  11. Thanks TrueBlue. Appreciate it.
  12. None right now, but if you or anyone else wants to give it a shot do so by all means. I'm going to be doing this on a regular basis throughout the season.
  13. Rich Hill unspectacular, but effective, Curveball, fastball, the change still an elective, Oh no!!! Hairston's down and out! Thank god he's up, but still there's doubt, Singman swings like Kong they say, His double hits the wall a far piece away, Pie like Vlad has a swing of his own, Claps hands with each hit, like a Pete Rose Clone, Hendry with cellphone behind the plate, Still time to make a good team great Eyre "Having Fun" Shows Hill how its done KKK in the third with the heat and a change Who cares if he's nuts and has the mange? Matboy on with a splat then a steal, On a throw high enough to bring down a teal, Neifi of the quick smile and warning track power Advances Matboy but no runs, time to shower, Howrie, no runs in the fourth or his new blue socks, Good lookin' fastball really rocks, Marshall makes it an inning in about 8 pitches Pagan with a major league jump, do we have enough niches? Aram slashes and grins his way on, Dopirak straight away for the run, McGhee for Aram, out by a ton, Meister Marshall with a one pitch out As Augie shows us his gun, Lotsa info from Dusty, inning's done, Fassero shows he can still get out scrubs Who can't score runs, Jae Kuk has some stuff And places it too, I'm up for this Korean Who cares if he calls hurricanes typhoons? Matboy interview in whiskers and coal tar, Our half, no runs on one hit, so good so far, Novoa does not impress At least with the first two, But comes back and pitches like he actually has a clue, Wuertz is a wonder on 3 pitches, High fives all around and not many glitches. c copyright 2006 Steve Hummel
  14. Good luck Jehrico. The Cubs will win because I'll be writing a game by game retrospective of it entitled Exorcism at Clark and Addison in order to pay off the mortgage. :) Look for it.
  15. I'm hoping for the Wrigley La Lake Effect which will make the wind blow in during the top half and out during the bottom, and the La Labrum, El Elbow and Fountain of Youth Effects to help the SP. Then if we get lucky and Dusty starts channeling Casey Stengel or Miller Huggins....we're in! :)
  16. Yep, yep, yep. With any luck a healthy staff ought to mean a very good year for the Cubs. Just think of what our staff ERA might be if Willamson, Miller and Wood all come back effectively? What if Guzman, Hill and J. Willams pan out? A lot of ifs, yes, but hey the odds are with us, no? And all of those other arms can translate into trades to bolster the offense. Ah, hope springs eternal.
  17. Beter to go after a Todd Helton. He's at least a little more likely to be actually available.
  18. Yeah, Ohman showed me something last year. He's a great loogy and probably has the potential to be even more valuable. I don't really see the need for Michaels, but I'd try to give them Novoa, Wellmeyer and/or some other righty before Ohman.
  19. Mightnot even a 1.50 whip in the American Lg. be considerably different in the Natl.?
  20. Seems like a balanced and resonable approach. And yes, I think that there will be more moves before Opening Day, Patterson and Walker as most seem to think. Wouldn't mind seeing a platoon in Right.
  21. Yes, we all get together to decide what should be the board response to every post. Thanks for the assinine post. That is not the meaning of group think, and knock it off with the assinine comment.
  22. Largely agree. Group think and over reaction reign on here currently.
