  1. @Bertz you're up for today's game thread!
  2. One of the items on my list is a complete re-tooling of the top right menu. I keep having a go at its redesign and am never satisfied. Now that things are *finally* calming down a bit, I hope to look at it soon.
  3. I'm checking multiple times a day. To the surprise of absolutely no one, the old registrar is moving at the speed of molasses in approving the transfer.
  4. Updated nightly so they're always up to date. Active Roster: https://northsidecubs.com/active-roster/ 40-man Roster: https://northsidecubs.com/forty-man-roster/
  5. There's no such thing as too many shortstops or too many center fielders on a baseball roster.
  6. Time to update the prospect lists after several weeks of play. The only player who has lost prospect eligibility is Wesneski, so the top of the list is going to shuffle quite a bit. We'll close voting on Sunday evening. Here is the current list: https://northsidecubs.com/chicago-cubs-top-prospect-rankings/
  7. I sent out emails to all users who had logged into the site in the past three weeks, somehow you must have missed it. Still waiting for the old domain to transfer to us, BTW. Hopefully it happens in the next day or two.
  8. While I’d prefer the Twins and Brewers to be better, I’m really enjoying watching the Cardinals and White Sox flail at the bottom of their divisions. Beat the hell out of the Cards, please and thank you.
  9. Okay, with my tech week of hell past me, I’d like to get back on the typical routine here. @UMFan83, you’re up to start the game thread against the Best Fans in Baseball for the Worst Team in the National League.
  10. I see I mistyped Alcantara this morning. No, I’m not going to fix it.
  11. This should be an interesting game with Alcantra on the mound vs Wesneski. Wesneski has been very good his past two starts, posting a 1.64 ERA over 11.0 innings.
  12. Basically, it treats each game as a discrete event and tries to use hit data and sequencing to project expected runs. I think it’s a much better metric than Pythag, especially early in the season when one or two blowouts can have a large impact on total runs.
  13. What this thread needs is a really intense argument over the definition of the word mediocre.
  14. Especially once you factor in their terrible luck in sequencing.
  15. Uh oh, Mervis just said ”I’ve always wanted to play in *the* MLB” Demote him.
  16. Which is why I prefer BaseRuns. Each A’s blowout counts as one win and has no impact on other games the team has played.
  17. Interesting. Tellez is a really nice floor. Is Mervis's defense good? Because Tellez is a butcher at first.
  18. It sure looked and felt that way with Robert, Anderson, Giolito, et al. But then the farm system didn't only fail to provide depth behind those great players, it failed entirely. The recent White Sox are a good example of how badly things can go with a stars and scrubs approach to roster-building.
  19. I didn't realize just how much bad luck the Cubs have rolled into this season. I knew they had drawn the short straw a few times but... yikes. The Cubs are 15-16 right now. Their pythag record is 20-11. Even more telling, their BaseRuns record - which I find to be more accurate than pythag because it treats each game as a discrete event, as it should be - is 21-10. They should be scoring 5.10 runs a game while giving up only 3.47 runs a game. That 21-10 BaseRuns record is good for third in all of baseball behind the Rays and Braves. https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Standings
  20. I just gave myself whiplash when I realized that Google was founded four months after Wood struck out 20 batters.
