The Pirates appear to be turning back into a pumpkin and are falling down the standings. It would require a Cubs sweep to take third place from them but given how Pittsburgh has played, a sweep is very possible.

The Brewers are going to live and die on pitching and defense. I wouldn't necessarily say their lineup "stinks" but it's not good. It has also underperformed enormously. That could continue, it could change. Willy Adames has an OPS+ of 80. Maybe he'll bounce back but maybe he's now Javy Baez. *shrugs*

The Brewers have kinda lucked into their first place spot and outplayed their pythag by quite a bit while their roster was injured. I don't know what to expect next, though. Wade Miley just returned to the rotation, Brandon Woodruff is throwing from flat ground. If the Brewers "get right", I'm not sure anyone in the division can catch them but an injury-plagued team "getting right" often never happens. One more setback from Woodruff and the wheels could come off in a hurry, especially if their offense continues to sputter.

It's another streaming non-Marquee game, this time on Peacock. The Cubs have a chance for back-to-back sweeps with a win today and have climbed right back into the NLC, only 3.0 GB of the Brewers.

It's time to involve umpire automation in MLB. I lean toward the challenge system but full-blown robo strikes/balls is better than what we have. And I'm not disparaging umpires. Most of them are very good (especially the newer ones) at their jobs but they're human and going to eff it up at critical times.

I can't watch the game because we have people over and if I try to commandeer the outdoor TV for baseball, I'll have rotten fruit thrown at me.

But to be more accurate, I’d say I hated *living* in Los Angeles more than I hate the area itself. I visit pretty regularly and have a great time but will never live there again.

San Diego's conservatism is one of its biggest drawbacks. But generally speaking, San Diego is not hotter than LA, as more of it is in proximity to the temperate coast. And it's wayyyyyyy prettier than LA; they're not even in the same category. LA is a few hills with giant basins, San Diego is rolling hills throughout and very pretty. And due to those hills, San Diego doesn't have the "encased in concrete" feel of Los Angeles, which is both more aesthetically pleasing and doesn't try to cook you just because you're walking outside. The Gaslamp is a great area and San Diego's beaches are more accessible and better. And it doesn't require three days of driving in traffic to escape San Diego when you just want to drive somewhere for the weekend.

Twins, Brewers, and very fond of the Padres after living in San Diego for eight years. The three places I've spent the most time living. edit: I guess technically I lived in Los Angeles longer than San Diego but I love San Diego and hate Los Angeles so there you go.

I'm a Brewers fan so my opinion doesn't count around here but I'd be a lot more concerned about the Brewers than the Pirates over 162. The Brewers continue to hang in there despite losing what felt like half their roster for a month. If Woodruff comes back healthy, that rotation could look a lot scarier in a hurry.

Batting around is obviously ten batters. To go “around”, you need to get back to the same place you started and that requires the same batter to step to the plate.

Somehow, the Cubs are only 3.5 GB in the National League Central because, woof, the two central divisions are absolutely pathetic this season. This division is shaping up to be a jump ball between a bunch of people with broken legs.

In the Twins Cities, we could literally see the air yesterday. It's some of the worst air quality I've ever seen and I lived in Los Angeles for nine years and experienced more wildfires than I can count.

Yeah, the clock is ticking and this entire division is reeling. If the Cubs can make a run at .500 over the next month, they can be buyers at the deadline. If they don't, hard to envision anything but selling.

I don't know anything about Bido but at a glance, he looks like organizational fodder. He's 27 years old, has spent parts of three seasons in AAA, and owns a MiLB ERA of 4.40. Looks like the good matchup for the hometown team tonight.
