  1. Another game against the White Sox, another prime opportunity for a win. Lance Lynn has been truly awful this year and I'm pretty sure he's leading the world in home runs allowed (though admittedly, I don't care enough to look it up).
  2. In case you haven't noticed, the Chicago Cubs are on a bit of a roll coming out of the All-Star break, going 7-4 overall and currently amidst a four-game winning streak. With Cody Bellinger (free agent at season's end) and Marcus Stroman (can opt-out of contract at season's end) looking like two of the most appealing trade candidates on the market, Cubs' President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer has decisions to make that could impact the north side team for years to come. And according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer, insiders are saying no decision has been made. With nearly a week left until the deadline and no significant trades having been made as of this writing, that's not an indictment of Hoyer... but time is running out and a decision will need to be made. And it's an important one for the Chicago Cubs.

  4. So when you go into an editing window, the entire site font changes or just the font in the text editor?
  5. I'm moving them all to verified member status so they can see social. The requirements of the social forum were relaxed almost immediately once we finished the site transition. Now all you need are two approved posts to see it.
  6. The White Sox are a really bad baseball team that might get worse before this series is over. Unfortunately, the Cubs only face them twice.
  7. It's hilarious. I wonder how many forums were borne out of ESPN.com message boards. My first Twins site was a reaction to the ESPN boards being a trash fire (I founded BattleYourTailOff.com in 2005 or so). Brewer Fanatic (formerly BrewerFan.net) was founded in 2001 because people hated the ESPN boards.
  8. Yep, that's exactly why owners want the QO, it's salary suppression.
  9. I agree but I would prefer to see the QO go away entirely, or at least the punishment side of it. Teams getting an extra pick for losing a FA is fine, probably good, but teams losing picks is garbage.
  10. And that's entirely possible. I'd find it rather unfortunate but it's definitely possible... but to be fair, there is a significant portion of every fanbase that screams whenever a team fails to move literally every living, breathing player on the roster at the trade deadline. I think the Cubs will be modest sellers but there's a lot of interesting possibilities within that statement.
  11. Where did I imply it's a binary? There is a range of buying and selling. It's likely the Cubs will sell... to what extent? Well, I don't think anyone knows that, maybe not even the Cubs. But it'd be foolish to not closely monitor the market and move pieces that bring back good prospects for expiring contracts.
  12. I think team options work the same way but haven’t looked into it. I think the dates for options and QOs are different and unrelated. That’s my impression, anyway.
  13. The Cubs have a chance to win a four game series against the Cards today but the pitching matchup doesn't favor the hometown nine. No matter what happens today, it's likely the Cubs are sellers at the deadline... but it'd still be more fun to watch them make things interesting over the next several days. They're only four games under .500 after yesterday's win.
  14. Okay, so Bellinger got me to looking this up a few weeks back because I wasn't sure how mutual options worked with the QO, either. I *think* it works this way: 1. The team rejects the mutual option 2. The player rejects the mutual option 3. The team can then offer a QO
  15. I mean, it's still probably a good idea to sell but at least they're trying to make it interesting in the lead-up to the deadline and I will never, ever complain about someone beating the Cardinals.
  16. It makes some sense given the QO all but guaranteeing the Cubs either an extra season or a compensation pick. The QO also makes it harder for the Cubs to recoup the loss of that comp pick with a prospect return.
  17. Bellinger has a magic bat right now. At the very least, it's gonna look good come the deadline.
  18. I wanted to sign Mancini but when I saw the second year, I was less thrilled at the idea of signing him.
  19. It has felt like he's been volatile and a step down from previous seasons (where he wasn't great or anything, just pretty good) but his statcast numbers are mostly pretty good this season.
