As we approached the offseason, I assumed the Cubs would be looking for a good starting pitcher. But as the landscape changed in the final 6-ish weeks, I started second-guessing that, particularly Stroman's opt-out. So if both Stroman and Hendricks are here in 2024, what is your primary driving goal this winter? -

It has been reported by 670 The Score that the Cubs and starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks have discussed a contract extension. The Cubs hold a $16 million team option on Hendricks for the 2024 season with a $1.5 million buyout. Hendricks had a nice bounceback season in 2023, posting a 3.74 ERA over 137 innings pitched. He will be entering his age 34 season in 2024 and struggled through much of 2021 and 2022. It's hard to get a read on what a Hendricks extension might look like given his recent struggles. Is he willing to take less money and/or fewer years to stay with the Cubs or is he going to leverage his above-average 2023 season into a longer term deal? -

This isn't for transactions, it's trade/signing rumors and user proposals for trades or free agents. I have no issues with a transactions thread, provided it's restarted once a year. Ultimately, I'd like to put something more permanent in place on the site that isn't a thread but that's a conversation for another day. -
We've been using this over at Brewer Fanatic for awhile now and I like the way it works. Basically, use this forum for an rumors you've heard (more on this below) or any trade proposals or whatever you've cooked up. Rumors: do not actually use this forum, use the rumors section of the site! Once you post to the rumors section of the site, the system will automatically re-post back into this forum where it will operate like any other forum thread. Man, it's gonna be terrible optics if they trade Glasnow right after finalizing a stadium deal. Which is definitely on-brand for the Rays.

I found this really interesting. The SQL server went haywire for a few days and kept corrupting tables. It was quite a mess but we're relatively confident it has been resolved. -
Where are people at with Stroman? He's not going to opt out after the injury, or is he?

I know it doesn't feel like it right now but this was a pretty successful season. Going into the season, I had the Cubs at 78 wins and instead, they were in contention until the final day of the season. It's a bummer how they got there and there are serious questions about 2024 but overall, this feels like a step in the right direction.

Probably not far off the mark. I think Philly has an in with Trout for obvious reasons but if the Cubs have any chance at all, they should make that call and try to land him. -

I have nothing against the team and enjoy this community, it's fun watching other people get excited and have a good time even if I have no emotional cheering interest.
