  1. lately, i've been wondering why houston can get so hot at the right time, even though their team is lame and nobody really even likes them except jimy is a misspell--yet the same crap happens to us year after year. the grossman injury really hurts because i didn't think it could get much worse.
  2. beane is a dummy. i hate him because he does things differently. he also writes too many books instead of making kenny williams look stupid. btw, adam dunn sucks. he strikes out way too much.
  3. but he looked right at the camera and said he never took steroids with conviction! ryno gets the last laugh. palmeiro officially out of cooperstown.
  4. replace "Cubdom" with "Dustydom" and "The Cubs" with "Dusty".
  5. and the kerry wood haterWGN rolls on..... kerry wood's career OPS against is light years ahead of park. that comparison is for the antiquated dustyballers.
  6. my first chance to ring in on this: great deal, i've been a fan of lawton for some years now. the facts are: he's been the best leadoff man in the NLthis season, if he can play center, i'd like it even better. it makes me cringe, however, when people refer to him as a great "contact" hitter. that's not the point, the guy gets on base! THAT IS THE DEAL. no one's talking about his IsoD being instantly tops on the team (granted, i've only been listening to the radio and haven't been around here much). the guy is a beane-type player, which is what this team has sorely lacked. right now, despite his contract, he's undervalued as a leadoff man because his average isn't over .300. but his OBP is near .400 and that's the important thing. hendry got a moneyballer.
  7. when will nevin realize that he can still live in san diego and play for another team? jeez, what a location snob.
  8. i'm not enamoured with furcal OR cedeno, quite frankly. nomar will be cheaper than furcal, and better than cedeno. if he gets hurt again, you can strangle me.
  9. hey brasky, haven't you heard? on this site, we pronounce brasky "bel-tran".
  10. Wins do mean something. They do determine whether or not you're a HOFer, and each year, they play a large hand deciding who wins the cy young each year. If you care about those sorts of things I mean. I'd hate to see Kerry go, but if it would guarantee the Cubs would stop being mediocre to sucky every year, I'd be all good with it. I just wish I felt like Hendry had a real plan. Take Billy Beane for instance, whether people agree with his (and others) philosophies or not, dude knows how to build a consistent winner. Hendry seems like an awesome judge of talent, but just being a casual observer of baseball over 20 or so years, I'm not sure that just judging talent is what ultimately leads to building a winning ball club. ::unsure:: you talk about wins meaning something and then beane's philosophies in the next paragraph. wins mean stuff, but they only mean that the team is scoring him enough runs to get him wins, which they haven't. wood knows how to get guys out, and that's what guys like beane value.
  11. wood has been a very good starting pitcher, consistently throughout his career. has he had injuries? yes, but when he's pitching, he's quite above average, and his statistics bear that out. if you expect him to strike 20 guys out every time out there, of course you're going to be disappointed. there's no point in trading wood, even if we could work something out, because there's no way we would get any kind of equal value for him.
  12. I don't want Klesko. I'd be interested in Brian Giles as a FA. Isn't he a FA after this year? Although his power #s are way down from Pittsburgh days, his OBP is still very high, and there's a possibility his power #s will spike going from Petco to Wrigley. i've said this many times before, giles is a FA and would be a great fit in left field next year.
  13. we don't really need to trade maddux. we'll have money to spend, if the trib doesn't decide to pare down payroll due to the lack of performance witha high one.
  14. in defense of fahey, i don't think he was singling corey out in that particular game. i think he was just pointing out that corey is not getting any better and probably never will. something i don't disagree with. i think corey's time with the cubs is over, looks like he'll be a backup outfielder for the rest of his career with other teams. thanks for something corey, i just can't remember what it would be.
  15. i just want heads to roll. it would satisfy my sense of anger at them for obstinantly causing the cubs to suck.
  16. i'd have a problem trading him due to the fact that he'll be a lot cheaper than wagner or ryan and would allow us to spend money at more important spots.
  17. wags throws harder, so it's definitely not the roids. i think wagner would come cheaper, but i'm not adverse to signing dempster and using the money to upgrade at other places. the dempster phenomenon will give us a lot more money to throw at a leftfielder, a SS, and middle relief. granted, the market isn't looking too good this next offseason, but i'd like to see giles in left, sheff (via trade) in right, and pie in center next year. it's oldewr in the corners, but i'm not really concerned, both guys know how to get on base.
  18. Perhaps his injury was worst than reported. but they have other SS prospects, iirc.
  19. he'll DH if he doesn't start at first though. either way, he'll start. but he's still a better fielder than pujols. although he still has a ways to go to catch him offensively.
  20. Sure it is, nerd. wait, are you being sarcastic? I saw someone the other day that had your license plate "suleyman" on his car. that was me. rather, it is me as i was meant to be.
  21. It's still too early...I don't think I can in good conscience jump on until September at the earliest. He's doing great now, no doubt about it. he sucks. strikes out too much, not enough sacrifice bunts, doesn't have a low-enough BABIP.
  22. Well that is pretty surprising. Thanks for the stats. it's funny what you can learn from stats. like, how a hitter actually performs. and dunn still sucks. I should kick your ass, but that was pretty funny. no worries, ZZ, we've been at each other's throats today. just wanted to have a little fun.
