  1. this makes total sense. a project that hendry and wilken think they can make into the best pitcher in the league--briefly, they're outthinking themselves again. that's what they do best. up their own butts in conventional wisdom of the grizzled scout.
  2. hendry is one of those gms that falls in love with his own ability to spot good ballplayers, thinking that only grizzled scouts can spot talent, while using their natural instincts and what they know about the game. what hendry forgets is that baseball logic is flawed, backwards logic, and people who are too close to the game are brainwashed by it. people who have been involved in it in some way, shape, or form for years and years often get wrapped up in it--not knowing that baseball is a liar, a cheap, mesmerizing whore that will steal your wallet and stab you in the throat when you're not looking. no one knows anything about baseball because everyone thinks they know everything about baseball. hendry would do a great service to himself and the team by forgetting evrything that he thinks he knows about baseball because it's invariably wrong. if baseball logic said that up was down and down was up, hendry would believe it, this how baseball works. just pull a costanza and do the opposite of instinct.
  3. I expect him to build a power. Not that I'll pull a Florida and ask for his head if he goes 7-4 next year, but I think he's already heading in the right direction. Just keep recruiting well and it will all fall in place. i think zook calls the defensive plays, but he has nothing to do with the offense--that's locksley all the way, and i don't think anyone would call locksley a bad coach. he'll get a head job somewhere soon, which is why i wouldn't be upset if zook left--it would just mean that we'd keep locksley for a lot longer.
  4. That guy! I love that Illinois is basically in a no-lose situation. Everyone expects them to get blown out, so they can only impress. People who think Illinois is going to get blown out either just hate Illinois or they don't follow Illinois or both. We were being blown out just once this season and it was the first game of the season. And we ended up losing by just 4. USC is playing well right now, but did anybody watch the USC/UCLA game? USC didn't look all that dominating to me. They looked much better against Arizona St. to me. If there was a Pac Ten vs Big Ten challenge in football, how many games do you think the Big Ten would win of the following? Maybe two or three, like they do in basketball vs the ACC. OSU vs. USC Illinois vs. ASU Mich vs. Oregon State Wisc vs. UCLA Penn State vs. Oregon Iowa vs. Arizona Indiana vs. Wash State Mich state vs. Stanford Purdue vs. California Northwestern vs. Washington Indiana vs. Best High school team in California Seriously? The Big 10 might win every one of those. I'd probably give the Pac 10 2 wins. seriously. let's see, stanford: terrible, california: can't beat anyone, oregon: terrible, ucla: lost to notre dame at home, wash st: coach just got fired for being bad, arizona: bad, washington: average, usc: lost to stanford. i actually think that minnesota could beat stanford, oregon, wash st., and maybe arizona--and minnesota was unbelievably bad. What teams outside of the Big 10 did your league beat this year that were BCS over 500 teams? Cal beat Tenn, Oregon beat....Michigan by how much? This at a quick glance and UCLA beat a top 20 BYU. well, you got me there, but incidentally, the b10 is 2-1 against the pac-10 this season.
  5. how can you hate them more than the patriots? oh, i hate both of them, but i don't think words can describe my hatred of the 72 dolphins. it goes back to that fateful monday night in 85.
  6. yes. one game closer to doomsday for the 72 dolphins.
  7. please, someone, get don shula out of there, that man, as well as every single 72 dolphin, is a creep. i really really really hope the patriots go undefeated and win the superbowl just we don't have to see mercury morris make any more bizarre statements. please, please, let those strokes go away forever.
  8. man, you jerk, you beat me to it. :P Hey I dont care who reports something like this. I love it Add this to the Bears re=signing Briggs, and its been a good day. word is that it hasn't happened yet. :(
  9. man, you jerk, you beat me to it.
  10. Easy: Kansas - 1 loss Missou - 2 losses You must've missed where I said the word "valid." Since when are losses not a valid way of measuring team success? It may not be a complete analysis, but it is most certainly valid. Perhaps we don't mean the same thing with that word. val·id –adjective Logic. (of an argument) so constructed that if the premises are jointly asserted, the conclusion cannot be denied without contradiction. The team with fewer losses had a better season. Kansas had fewer losses, so they had a better season. That argument fits the definition of validity perfectly. Of course, to remain valid, Hawaii should be playing for the title. But you didn't say to include that in the argument. ;) hey, the illini beat ohio state, yet ohio state is playing for the title! that's unfair.
  11. You guys will be fine. You'll some 6-6's and if things go well a good shot at the Big 10 title. Did you just say we will see some 6-6's? I really highly doubt that with the talent that is being brought into Champaign, and thats before they were making Rose Bowls, and beating #1's? From this point on I really see no reason the Illini arent at least 9-3 year in year out, depending on their schedule. We arent that far off from getting to be equal with Michigan and Ohio States talent level. Wow...one 9 win season and it's 9 wins from here on? Your talking about someday getting Michigan talent and I am assuming you must know they won only 8 games. You beat a team that played a horrible non conference schedule, a nice win but come on. again, we beat 5 bowl teams. one of them is playing in the bcs title game.
  12. You guys will be fine. You'll some 6-6's and if things go well a good shot at the Big 10 title. this post needs a couple of words to make sense.
  13. and btw, zooks class this year, while lacking the star power of last year's, is better from top to bottom so far.

Ohio State: Lost at home to Illinois Illinois: Lost to Iowa (re: terrible) and overrated. Michigan: A complete joke - Lost at home to App St. and got demolished by Oregon who really didn't even do anything after halftime because they were up 32-7. Wisconsin: Overrated and not very good - lost to Penn State 38-7, barely beat Iowa, were tied with I-AA Citadel at halftime, and needed a late TD to beat 2-10 UNLV. Penn State: Bad Iowa: Terrible - Lost at home to 5-7 Western Michigan and at Iowa State. Indiana: Bad Michigan State: Bad - Usually start 3-0 or 4-0 then finishes the year 2-6 or 3-5. Purdue: Bad Northwestern: Terrible - they lost to Duke Minnesota: Terrible Boy that was fun. what was fun, biting my style?
  15. Something wrong with Georgia-Hawaii being only -11 while USC-Illinois is -14. Why? cus hawaii is an awful team who can barely beat nevada Ooo, this is fun. I can play this game too. Illinois is an awful team that LOST to Iowa. See, it works both ways. illinois is an awful team? He felt it necessary to judge Hawaii by one game and call them awful so I just did the same using his logic. But no I don't think Illinois is an awful team. fair enough.
  16. would you stop bringing us down and let us enjoy the moment? for christ's sake it doesn't happen often.
  17. usc is playing illinois, not indiana, but if you mean illinois, i would say: 50% chance usc wins by less than 2 tds 25% chance usc wins by more than 2 tds 25% chance illinois wins.
  18. but was the blowout probable?
  19. got me there, stanford is pretty bad. but let's not compare them to the illini.
  20. sure you can .... no, no you can't.
  21. can i do the same to you when they lose by 4 TDs? absolutely, but your opinion doesn't matter much as your school isn't in a bcs bowl.
  22. i really wish people would stop saying: "well illinois is capable of winning, but usc is probably going to blow them out." can't have it both ways, and i will definitely call you out just the same when illinois wins.

  24. i think this question belongs in the non-bcs thread, with all of the other missouri posts.
