  1. Why would you say that? because he's the highest bidder?
  2. it's starting to look like he's the favorite to buy the team.
  3. i really don't know what else we could ask of soriano thus far. he's been fantastic.
  4. he hasn't been super terrible this year for a pinch hitter, but that's all he can do. it's hard to justify keeping him around for a plate appearance here and there.
  5. that would be a good way to cement our dominance, even leaving the position players alone.
  6. We should take 2/3. looper will shut us down, naturally.
  7. This is all a bunch of nonsense. The whining about ownership always was overblown. They ran the team like crap and employed horrible personel decision makers. That is why they sucked. It wasn't because of spending or the drive for profit. while i mostly agree with this, the cubs have been one of a handful of clubs to consistently turn a profit since the mid-80's and for most of those years they were middle of the pack in payroll. most teams are run to turn a profit, few teams will be run in the red on purpose in order to win games. but teams with private owners don't operate their teams as key assets, like the cubs have been run. the cubs are the crown-jewel of the tribune company, they are a cash cow. other teams are simply run like low-risk, low-return investments for owners or as toys. i find the whining annoying, though. it was somewhat about money, but more about idiocy. but then again, that idiocy can be directly linked to a lack of motivation on the part of upper-upper management.
  8. as this whole "favre to the buccs" thing gets more and more serious, it will be entertaining to see the kinds of public hissy fits that jeff garcia throws.
  9. neither rex nor orton have a very extended future starting in the nfl.
  10. Unfortunately the rest of the game was like a punch in the gut. watch the whole thing, though
  11. They're doing well this year, but if Lou hadn't come around to the fact that OBP is important they'd still be clueless. This is an incredibly arrogant thing to say. Lou Piniella has been in baseball longer than probably 90% of the board has been alive. What on earth makes you believe he "suddenly" came around to OBP this year? Go back and read all the quotes from his press conference when hired. Shock and awe, one of his key points was approach at the plate, with an emphasis on being aggressive as a hitter only when when the baseball is in the strike zone. I think you're much better served saying that the players this year have responded to the coaching approach, with a little help from other players (like Fukudome). It's on the players. Lou isn't having any epiphanies at this stage of his career. they haven't really responded to a "coaching approach", if you'll notice, lee has fluctuated a little downward in isod and ramirez has fluctuated upward. fukudome is basically the same, theriot is similar to his career #'s, edmonds has always been patient, soriano is basically the same, derosa is a bit up, but not much, soto is a rookie, johnson is similar. the approach has been with the upper management.
  12. Yeah. He'll likely be going up against St. Clair. Which of course means whoever wins the QB battle has earned the right to be carted off the field in an ambulance on opening day. "Congtratulations, you won the starting job! We will pray for you and your family." LOL. st. clair is supposed to start at guard opposite garza, too. so that weakens us at another position. but none of the OL's available in free agency were good enough for us, apparently.
  13. if i ever need to think positively about the bears, i just watch this video and it honestly takes my breath away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXjZqooeYBQ&feature=related
  14. i don't even mind marquis at the back of the rotation.
  15. maddux bielecki sutcliffe kilgus sanderson solid top 3 but kilgus and sanderson weren't good.
  16. wow, that guy was just happy to be there.
  17. Why is that a joke? because i find it funny.
  18. this doesn't bode well.
  19. franklin has given up some big home runs.
  20. haha, take that.
  21. pujols won the gg? edit: i guess he did, what a joke.
  22. here's an article i wrote for chicagocubsblog.net last year. http://www.chicagocubsblog.net/2007/03/page/3/
