  1. that certainly looks like a lot of words. good job, you two.
  2. I'm just being less passive aggressive in my opinion on Wilken. He don't think like us, and there won't be much room for that much longer. Make it known! lol, this guy's going all peter gammons
  3. settle down there spazmataz
  4. i don't think anyone has said the methods by which the information is gathered regarding scouting will change, but the analysis of that information will most definitely change, along with the decisions based on said analysis.
  5. Maybe the end of Tim Wilken's free reign here. CCP would say that epstein has a lot of respect for wilken's work. i would say that mcleod is going to be doing that job, for all intents and purposes. I'm ok with it if he does. But the early reports don't have McLeod becoming the scouting director for the Cubs. I'm sure he will have significant input into the draft either way, but it's left to be seen if he's replacing Wilken or not. They'll probably work together. I actually do believe that Epstein would have much respect for Wilken's work. wilken will work with them or wilken will be out the door. by the time they're done with him, he'll be doing body shots off of the waitresses at hi-tops at 3 am after a 20-hour work day.
  6. i trust him more than kap, who desperately needs this to happen soon.
  7. no, he's just been the most cynical, so when he says something optimistic, we listen.
  8. That makes no sense to me. Hoyer is Epstein's guy. He wants to work with Epstein. He's not going to quit his job in SD while there is even a tiny bit of doubt that Epstein is coming, and the Cubs can't really hire a GM if there's even a tiny chance that they may have to look for a new president of baseball ops. they can hire hoyer and wait for theo, if theo tells hoyer he's coming.
  9. levine sounds totally burned out with trying to break stories.
  10. powdered sugar more like
  11. it's like rick reilly turned even more [expletive] and took some illegal drugs.
  12. Yeah, alot of people aren't really getting my gif this week unfortunately. I guess because it might require some knowledge of the film. I wanted to do something this week where the Colts needed Peyton to help them, but he couldn't because "he" was dead or whatever. That's the scene where Paul Newman's character walks out to his car with his goons and sees that his top goon is apparently dead. Then all of the sudden Hanks opens up with a tommy gun and takes out the rest of the goons. set in my hometown of moline/rock island. based on real life off-chicago crime boss john looney who ran things there. filmed in the chicago area as well.
  13. Ouch! john henry: "i love terry francona, there's been no more loyal soldier or competent manager in the league than tito. he's been such a great field general that it almost makes up for the fact that he's a pill-popping freak that can't even keep a woman satisfied, if you know what i mean. we'll miss him."
  14. so, in your estimation he's gone then.
  15. Wilken isn't the assistant GM so I don't see why it would. I never disliked Wilken's picks, but they weren't overly amazing either. Solid, but not atrocious, but what kind of old school resources was he working with? Bring in these three and give him more information and resources to make better calculated picks, he might be an improved version of himself i seriously seriously doubt wilken will be in charge of the draft, but you never know.
  16. like jamal black
  17. I'm sure Wilken understands that there will be changes under the new management. I'm sure he can adapt. I get the whole "he's a mangy curmudgeon stuck on the Old Ways....They're the number crunching wave of the future...He don't believe in no stinkin numbers...They believe the numbers can tell a pretty detailed story...Something's got to give! Eh? E? Eh?" storyline, but I just don't think it's that dramatic. I do think the storyline needs to exist as logically neither guy will stay too long under new management (maybe 3 years tops for the longest between the two of them), but I don't think it's because they'll struggle to survive and thrive in the new dramatically different ground breaking numbers crunching Cubs FO. I do agree that Wilken will walk out on his own accord. Not due to frustration or anything like that. He'll quit because he's old and in a couple of years the farm system he's been building will start having the reputation and results they've been working towards anyway, which is all that will matter (since a whole lot of younger people will get the most of the credit anyway). But yeah...overall I expect Fleita and Wilken to do alright under their new, much more intelligent and perceptive bosses. you certainly get very defensive when anyone says anything about either guy. fleita certainly hasn't been successful (and the little success he's had he's had specifically in latin america, where i'm suggesting he should stay) with the cubs and wilken has had mixed results at best--1 good draft out of how many doesn't necessarily instill confidence in me. that's just strange why you'd feel such a need to protect them from any and all criticism. hoyer basically turned the padres minor league system around in one year, i doubt the roles of two relics left around from the days of hendry will remain intact based on the revolution that is happening inside the organization. regardless of how amazingly successful fleita and wilken have been since their time here.
  18. They've done alright in player devleopment, just not great and it's never come together to form a WS winner. It's gotten better lately, and the organization is about to produce some bats after producing it's entire bullpen (minus Grabow). That said, yeah I do think they'll probably find someone to take the job title. OTOH, I think Fleita will still play a sizeable role in the organization's scouting and minor league work, especially in Latin America and possibly maybe Brazil. I think both he and Wilken will be considered assets and will be given their say in the FO, particularly in scouting. .....in latin america, which i said is a good place for fleita. wilken may be more likely to quit than be fired. he'll find working with mcleod and hoyer to be quite a bit different than working with hendry, i'm sure of that. these guys are here to build an organization, and foster change from top-to-bottom, it may be that wilken won't like how his role has been reduced or compromised as the frat boys get to do their thing.
  19. i just read the dan pompei piece in the tribune. what a piece of garbage. he's on my gulag list.
  20. He's been in charge of the new Dominican Academy. He's been in charge of the Latin American program for a while IIRC...where he's made it strength in the organization. sounds like a good place for him then instead of being director of player development for the whole organization. I don't mind him in player development. That's an area they're actually getting better at, and it's one of the first things New GM will be credited for because the wheels have already been put into motion for success there. he's been there a long time and they're just now getting better? meh, chances are hoyer, epstein, and mcleod know someone better who can be made available. he can stay in the dominican. if we're getting that much better why even bring in these guys at all? for the free agents?

  22. let's get out of here
  23. Reports are that McLeod is coming over to be assistant GM. Not scouting director. so? I thought you were implying that McLeod would replace Wilken as scouting director. i'm thinking wilken's role and input will be minimized. i think he's till got a place because theo likes balance, he may not like having to work with a sabr guy though, considering that's why he left toronto.
