  1. Yes, I admit I was watching the Sox today, and I saw something that made me sick as a Cub's fan. 8th inning, game tied 2-2, Thome hits a fly to shallow center field, looked like an easy catch. Royals CF Kerry Robinson charged in at a bad angle, then realized his mistake and tried to change direction, stumbling in the process. Falling forward like a clumsy drunk he still almost caught the ball but it glanced off the end of his glove. Thome, who had hustled all the while the ball was airborne, ended up with a standup double. Robinson was obviously embarrassed by the play and it should've been an error. Joe Crede then singled Thome in for the go-ahead run and Jenks saved the 1 run lead. What impressed me was that a big slow power hitter like Thome ran hard on a play that looked like an easy out, and consequently scored the winning run because he had hustled himself into scoring position. I am going to remember that play every time I see a Cub loafing on the basepaths. I'm looking at you, Aram!
  2. Are strikeouts really special in this regard though? If Albert Pujols could stop flying out so much while maintaining everything else, he'd be the best player in the history of baseball. Dunn can't just stop striking out while maintaining everything else, and Pujols can't just stop flying out while maintaining everything else. Yeah, Dunn goes deep into counts, which gives him lots of walks but also lots of 2-strike situations which lead to K's. In his case you have to take the good with the bad.
  3. Sox win 3-2, thanks to Thome hustling out of the box on a routine fly ball. Dusty really needs to show lazy Aram the film of that.
  4. Joe Crede just singled in Thome from 2nd base to take the lead. Good lesson for the Cubs there: stop being lazy turds on the basepaths.
  5. Watching the Sox on WGN and saw a very unCubslike play. Thome hit a fly to shallow CF that should have been caught but the CF took a bad angle, then stumbled and dropped the ball. Thome hustled right out of the box and ended up with a standup double. Aram and half the Cubs roster would have jogged out of the box and ended up with a single.
  6. I'm surprised more complainers don't mention Pierre's defense. His arm is a huge problem.
  7. I said before the season I wanted a quick fall from contention and a midseason fire sale followed by a wholesale callup of minor leaguers. If that stuff happens the team will be better next year. In fact they should be pretty damn good.
  8. He may be denied an extension but Dusty will NOT get fired.
  9. Jimmy Piersall did that once..... back around '63 gived or take. Did the run count, or did they make him run the right way? A negative run maybe? I'd be cool to see a sub-zero score.
  10. You do realize these guys are only 5.76% of the way through their contracts?
  11. Neifi earns a few starts if he get the RBI.
  12. Was it a poor decision? It got Zambrano out of the game. And Dusty is known for racking up high pitch counts for his starters. IMO getting out of the inning with no runs allowed was way more urgent than chasing Z. At the same time, the Padres have one of the best defenses in baseball, a park that tends to keep balls in play and a struggling offense. There was no guarantee that the Cubs would pull Zambrano, a guy they struggled to hit all night. If I'm managing the Pads preventing a score is paramount. With a runner on 3rd late in a 0-0 game I'm going to have my RHP pitch to Neifi Perez every time, regardless of whether the opposing pitcher stays in the game or not.

  14. Very dumb managing by the Padres. Intentionally walking Neifi to get to the pitcher made no sense when Z had thrown 107 and was sure to be pulled for a PH. An RHP vs. Neifi was the best situation the Padres could have hoped for.
  15. At the time he left the Cubs Alou was a horribly bad gamble to produce as he has since leaving. The Cubs are like a poker player who could have won big if he had drawn to an inside straight. It sucks to lose that way, but it's still a terrible idea to draw to an inside straight, and it always will be.
  16. I'd cut Aramis some slack on his slow arthritic "running" if he ever got his legs close to the size and muscularity of a typical power hitter's. Hell, I'd be happy if his legs looked better than a typical accountant's.
  17. Cubs have been outscored 45-5 in the last 6 games.
  18. Someone better call the Detox clinic ahead of time. Nah, sign him up for clown college. Alcoholic clowns are funny.
  19. Blanco might be playing because Dusty is afraid Hill will bounce some curveballs.
  20. A couple of days ago he hit a fly ball for a double. He trotted towards 1st and watched the ball until it fell, then he sped up and barely made it to 2nd. The annoying thing is that it obviously wasn't going to be a routine catch for the outfielder, yet Aram loafed until he saw the ball drop. I think he got used to loafing on the basepaths last year due to injury, now it's a habit and he does it even when he's healthy. I saw him not run out of the box, thinking it was foul, then sprinting. He's just slow. There's a difference. If the fairness of an airborne ball is in question you have to run out the play, otherwise you're a loafer. Aram waited until the ball hit the turf before he ran.
