  1. Thompson and Steele are both gonna be shut down at some point anyways due to innings. Better to let them play it out and shut them down in September. If Thompson sucks again next start, maybe you consider it.
  2. This Nats team is so bad, it's a miracle the Cubs lost 1 to them
  3. This year was such a failure, they're gonna end up picking 13th because the rest of their schedule is just tanking teams. This feels like the Bulls pre-2022 all over again.
  4. I'm fine with calling Roquan's bluff. I wouldn't trade him because you're not going to get much, let him sit out. Worst case scenario is he leaves and you're getting a high draft pick by being bad this year. Draft the top WR and build around Fields. I like Roquan but I'm not blowing all the cap on him, they just got out of Mack's large contract that hampered them and Mack is a better player.
  5. Suzuki can't hit anything outside and teams are just loading him up with outside pitches
  6. Don't get the point of caring about a bunch of players that won't be here next year beating up on bad teams. The Cubs aren't tanking and are bad. They'll probably pick 13th next year if you look at the rest of their schedule and the fact that almost everyone else is much worse than them and trying to tank.
  7. He's 31 years old next May. By the time the Cubs are good again, he's already going to be past his prime years. Yadier Molina had his last great year at age 30. Yes, there's still a DH but it's pretty clear other teams aren't valuing Contreras that high even at his peak for a half year rental.
  8. Seriously, what's the point of watching this team anymore? I get there wasn't a point before today but there's like 3 hitters in the lineup that may be part of the future. And they're going to win a bunch of meaningless games against the Reds to not pick top 8 in the draft.
  9. So the Cubs have managed to piss off everyone that hated the tear-down last year and now have pissed off the people fine with a tear-down by not going all the way. Impressive stuff.
  10. I'm fine with the Cardinals getting Soto as long as the return is fair. Guessing it won't be though because it's the Cardinals. Goldy and Arenado were basically waiver adds for them.
  11. I'm not a fan of the return for the Brewers but Hader is very overpaid in arbitration (for a reliever at least) and the Brewers have been trying to deal him the last few years because of it and know he won't be there long term.
  12. Also there's an obvious target on pitching on this and the draft after going for mostly hitters last year.
  13. Contreras & Happ have been lowkey horrible for the last month or so
  14. I'm an Ian Happ fan but not sure what he's gonna do if he can't play at Pittsburgh and Cincinnati 15 times a year
  15. McKinstry for Martin is a nice haul. Yeah he'd "old" but 5 years of control, can easily flip him at some point for a decent haul if you bring up players that pass him up (and he's good of course)
  16. It's not Dylan Moore but what a fleece by the Reds
  17. Wow so he signed for exactly everything they had left
  18. Kilian has 12 walks/9 strikeouts in his last 11.1 innings
  19. The Cubs are going to just beat up on the Reds and Pirates all 2nd half and people are going to think they have some sort of momentum into next year, aren't they?
  20. They play the Reds and Pirates pretty much the entire 2nd half, Tankathon has them as the 3rd easiest schedule and they can't even play themselves. They're pretty much destined for like 70-75 wins even with a sell-off. https://tankathon.com/mlb/remaining_schedule_strength
  21. Looks like the Cubs are going to be picking like 7th or 8th again next year
  22. Nobody is trading for a 30 year old with no track record. He went through waivers and didn't get a nibble.
  23. 5.143: Brandon Birdsell RHP, Big 12 Pitcher of the Year at Texas Tech
