  1. Jharmidy? Seriously? Soriano with a single and Pie with a double.
  2. I can imagine Fred warning someone. Chances are banning are 1/2 when you break the NSBB guidelines, 0/0 when you don't.
  3. Hey, does anybody remember that movie with...Alicia Silverstone, I think, and Stacey Dash, and it was set in high school or something? What was it called?
  4. Wow, where was my brain? I accidentally completely changed the direction of discussion.
  5. Terrible isn't nearly a strong enough word to describe his performance for the first 50 at-bats or so after his demotion. But, as he's done at almost every level, he made an adjustment and completely turned it around he's hitting .355/.403/.558 in April. That's a .394 improvment over May.

  7. While we're fantasizing about past players in current times... Can you imagine the quotes Dizzy Dean would have out there in today's media environment?
  8. Pie is 1 for 2 with a walk in the fourth.
  9. Final line: 5 innings, 3 hits, 5 k's, 1 walk. No run. Off to Iowa!
  10. But injury history is a huge factor It is. But it's the only factor over which Harden is at a disadvantage. Age, stuff, numbers, control, contract all favor Harden--dramatically in some areas.
  11. Really? Injury free, Cy Young lefty over an injury prone, but good pitcher in Harden? Injury history is really the only way Sabathia is better than Harden. This is awesome. I'll miss Gallagher; I won't miss Murton, but that's because I knew he had no chance in Chicago. Put a Murton on 'em in Oakland, Matty. Patterson was also a man without a spot, and Donaldson seems to be overtaken at C by this Wellington cat. All the players can help Oakland, but Chicago lost nothing crucial to them today. Reminds me of the Lakers trading for Gasol this past season.
  12. Having Gaudin will probably help.
  13. Wait, what? You realize those numbers aren't even close to each other, right?
  14. It's not a baseball season without some face-related injury issue involving Michael Barrett.
  15. I was just going to say before I go this far in the thread that, of all the greats mentioned, the one of which I previously had the least appreciation of his greatness was Musial. Stan was a a freaking beast. I know Williams and Ruth had absolutely cartoonish numbers, while he was playing, he was pretty much uneffwitable. And the crazy thing is that he had two MVPs before he even HIT his prime. How wild is that? His lowest OBP from his debut in 1941 to 1955 was .397, achieved in his second major league season. Just sick. Right now I would kill to see some episodes of the old Home Run Derby show. There are only a few up on youtube, but there are some good ones. Mantle v. Mays part 2 I was always fascinated Jim Lemon's stepless swing. I bet Jimmie Foxx got insane amounts of tail.
  16. Prior to this past season, Kaman maybe deserved to be on that list. Now/ Not a chance. If you're expecting better than 16 and 13 out of your center... pryzbilla is certainly a bust by lottery standards, but he's not terrible.
  17. I don't see anybody as a Charles Barkley-type player. I can't imagine every seeing one of those.
  18. Joe Alexander highlights are fun to watch.
  19. "In another shocking development, the Portland Trailblazers just traded some old bastards for Lebron James." Seriously, it's the only way left for them to get any younger or more talented.
  20. Really, his scouting report says he can't shoot or guard. Weems is a player. he's very raw, but a a ridiculous athlete. He made tremendous progress from his junior year to his senior, when he was clearly the best player the Hogs had on the offensive side. He fell in love with his outside shot and got into trouble there, but he had to be. His defense is, in my estimation, about average for a college player, which is below average at the NBA level. His big thing is that he's an athletic freak who has been very steadily improving as a basketball player. Comparing him to a CDR, his upside is much higher, though all bets are off with regards to his ability to reach that upside. None of which matters if you're a Bulls fan because he just got traded.
  21. Imagine if this guy was a starter. It would be awesome to have your #1 and #2 starter be the same guy.
  22. Yep, Pie's a complete flop. If a young player doesn't make it in his first 200 or so at-bats, then he's done. This has been proven many times. Just ask Carlos Pena, Josh Hamilton, Adrian Gonzalez, Brandon Phillips...
  23. Colvin's newfound eye is really encouraging. If only he was hitting worth a crap.
