here's how we justify it to the average Cub fan: "Go buy another beer. Derrek Lee isn't up for another 4 batters." In all seriousness, I doubt there would be much backlash is Dusty was fired. i don't think the average fan looks at the "2 winning seasons plus a nearly winning season this year" thing and thinks "gee, Dusty has made my life as a Cubs fan much better."
We have a winner folks, although I think for reasons 2 and 3 more than 1. What do I win? Will someone hypnotize me and give me a new favorite baseball team? Congratulations, you're a Royals fan now! poo
.259, 10th in the NL. Their RISP OBP is .338, only better than Arizona. Don't forget that they have the lowest pinch hitting BA in the league at .197 Hmmmm, I wonder why that is.....

Here's how: 1. Dusty F. Baker is owed $4 mil next year. If he's fired, he still gets paid, plus they'd have to pay another manager. 2. The fans show up no matter what. 3. The Trib doesn't care if the Cubs win or lose as long as people show up.
I agree there. How can Joe not see how bad of a quarterback Robinson is? And the defense wasn't that good against Northwestern, so I'm not looking forward to seeing what the Gophers can do against them.
Actually, Macias is decently fast. he just has no baserunning instincts. Macias isn't skinny. He is like a short little bowling ball. as opposed to a tall bowling ball. Has anyone noticed that neifi takes shorter strides than anyone else on the planet? His running style is a textbook definition of "sauntering", I think.
Dusty sez: http://www.grupoese.com.ni/2000/bn/03/10/Nefi.JPG THIS GUY HAS SAVED US!!! Ok, this was just an excuse to put up that ridiculous picture. Was the hat photoshopped on? Did they just place a kids' hat on his head and it didn't fit? Was it an inflatable hat?
Agreed. I feel terrible for all of the people with jobs during the day that have to wear dirty clothes, carry uncashed checks, drive dirty cars, and not be able to go shopping. Cubs fans don't work during the day. Lee Elia told me so.
the ESPN website keeps giving me a 404 when i try and look at non-qualifiers, but I can pretty much guarantee you that Corey and Macias are bottom 10 for people with their respective plate appearances or more.
Neifi is 148th out of 151 qualifiers, leading only Vlad Guerrero (who, at 2 decimal places, actually has the same P/PA as him at 3.25), Carl Crawford (3.24 P/PA) and Robinson Cano (3.04!!!!)
Precisely. As I said before in a nother thread, Cubs fans have fallen back into the Sosa-style "Oh Derrek's up so I'll pay attention again for three minutes" type of watching ballgames. Who gives a crap about the fans. Go out and make the team better.
