  1. The problem there is....the Cards no longer have a Whitey Herzog, or a Walt Jockerty as manager or GM of the franchise. LaRussa is an overrated douche, who won on the backs of players like McGwire, Canseco, Henderson(s), Honeycutt, Stewart, Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, etc, etc, etc. And he micro manages his team, which means the pressure is on Dave Duncan to get the most out of his pitchers. In other words...the Cards no longer has the "superior management" they once had. Their current GM, doesn't have the track record as a GM, and again LaRussa may be the MOST OVERRATED manager in all of baseball, possibly second to Joe Torre. Eventually, the pixie dust is going to wear out for the Cubs, and they should finish around the 72-78 wins this season. Freudian slip?
  2. Joe Morgan. Nuff said.
  3. (Tradition + batting practice balls caught) X booze consumed in bleachers = shenanigans
  4. If we're the worst fans in baseball, what does it say about Reds fans who have race riots in their city every few years?
  5. Every time I've been there it's been the first 10,000 fans. The only times it hasn't is even they're giving away jerseys or autographed balls. Then everyone gets a raffle ticket.

  7. Seriously. The legislature doesn't want the state to buy Wrigley. Most Illinoisans don't want the state to buy Wrigley. However, because Blago is a Cubs fan and Zell wants money now, this deal won't die. I'm sure there are worse run states in this country, but I'm hard pressed to find them.
  8. Bottom line: the rooftop owner in question knew the deal when he set up shop. If that's the agreed-upon price, he has to pay it. If not, he shouldn't be able to capitalize on Cubs games simpy because he disagrees. Bring it up at the next round of negotiation.
  9. I was expecting to be rickrolled by clicking on the link.
  10. I'm on my way out, but Phil Rogers is reporting that trade talks are dead, with quotes from MacPhail to that effect. D-E-A-D. /in the hopes of reaching 300 pages before locking.
  11. As someone who's four months older than Theriot, I resent the statement he's "closing in on 30." We're all younger than we think we are. :P =D> You're old. Kids just have no respect any more. Bunch of punks. :beee:

  13. he's been gone more than 5 years Has he really? I thought we traded him in 2003, which would hit the five year mark.
  14. Other - Todd Hundley
  15. An average of 2 ABs per game is far better than some of the young players he managed. I'm not saying that it's a direct apples to apples comparison, but the underlying theory of "I was screwed around with when I was young and I don't want to do that to others" is a little off the mark.
  16. Here are Dusty's "back and forth years" 1968: 6 games/5 AB (19 yrs.) 1969: 3 games/7 AB (20 yrs.) 1970: 13 games/24 AB (21 yrs.) 1971: 29 games/62 AB (22 yrs.) From 1972 on, here was a regular in Atlanta. That doesn't seem that out of the ordinary to me, as he at least got a fair number of AB each time he was up. But I guess this is Dusty's justification and we should just do a one of these:  Huh? He's supposedly saying that he bounced around when he first started out. Based on the number of games that he played in when he first started out, and the number of ABs he received, it doesn't look like he was bounced around. Furthermore, compared to his treatment of young players on the Cubs who did nothing but sit on the bench, his comparison isn't accurate. From my take, he's saying that the way he was was played early in his career = his treatment of rookies now. I don't believe that's accurate. I have a flow chart if necessary. :)

  18. 105.9 has NO place nominating a song for the Cubs. We already get a bum rep for Wrigley hosting golddiggers on a regular basis and that station practically caters to them. Although I am interested in what the Spanish language station comes up with.
  19. Wasn't Anal Fissure the porn movie starring Joey Buttafuoco?
  20. Well, in their defense, he did multiply loaves and fishes. One doesn't drink red with seafood.
  21. With all the investigation into how steroids and PEDs have potentially ruined baseball, why isn't Congress investigating Dusty's managing style? He's doing more for destroying the careers of young ballplayers than roids or HGH.
  22. my God, is it your goal to alienate every member of this board by opening day? you're certainly well on your way. +1
  23. Okay, does MLB Gameday audio cover the pre-game stuff? If so, my media player isn't working.
  24. I would certainly hope so. Although Macy's is tanking in Chicago because it changed Field's name. Chicago is an oddly territorial town when it comes to its local institutions.
