  1. Can we get Mariotti and Rosenblum in a lead-lined case and dump it in the lake?
  2. Weather is ridiculously sucky today in Chicago. Tonight is a low in the lower 40s with wind 10-20 mph out of the NNE. Gusts of up to 30 mph early in the evening. It was 85 and sunny yesterday. Boo Mother Nature.
  3. I want a 300 yard drive just because I can't do it now (of course, I've never tried either). That, and the other ones would force me to remain in shape. Screw that noise.
  4. This seems like a fitting place for my Julian Tavarez story. In 2001 (when he was a decent pitcher for us), I was at a game walking through the concourse. Keep in mind this was during the game, but there's Tavarez talking on his cell phone in the concourse. He had a Cubs official walking him steering fans away from talking to him. Just a very odd sight. That said, I hope he helps us win the division with Milwaukee.
  5. Peter Gammons suggested in a blog today that it may be time to blow up the Mets and trade Beltran and others for a nifty package of prospects. Another option he gave is trading for a Hatteberg/Millar/Freel type. I say kill two birds with one stone and trade Mr. Chemistry Jim Edmonds for Beltran.
  6. So he's basically a blogger? Blogger implies a person whose intention it is to purposefully post on the Internet. This is a man who went from being a Tribune sports columnist, to RedEye sports columnist, to part-time features columnist to full-time online columnist. I don't think he realizes what's happened yet and is curious why he never sees himself in print any more.
  7. He's such a great newspaper columnist that he's been relegated to the Web version only. Nuff said.
  8. It's funny because it's true.
  9. How about this three-way trade: Cubs send Gallagher, Murton and Cedeno to San Diego. San Diego send Greene and Giles to Cleveland. Cleveland send us Westbrook. San Diego gets three young players to aid in their rebuilding. Cleveland gets two offensive cogs. Cubs get a starting pitcher. Too much? Too little?
  10. maddux, glavine, and johnson are 100% 1st ballot no question. the other 3 probably get in a year or 2 later. though it's a crime if any of them (with the possible exception of schilling) don't make it right away. I don't see how Glavine ranks ahead of the others. He's not in Maddux's or the Unit's class. For HOF voters, 300 wins is like catnip. I agree with Rocket's prediction.
  11. Stay classy Fox Sports message boards! :good:
  12. Dan Lozano: Well Mike, your options are staying home and not playing baseball, or leave the house and not play baseball. Your choice!
  13. I know that I booed him unmerciful. Something positive: a sizable group sitting behind the Cubs dugout gave him a non-ironic standing ovation after he grounded into the double play in 4th. I'm positive they're all idiots.
  14. Jose Macias sits by his phone with eager anticipation.
  15. Anybody know anything about Chin-Lung Hu? I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that he's pretty much in line to replace Furcal so LA doesn't overpay him.
  16. So Rafael Furcal has been playing like a man in a contract year so far. (.366/.448/.597 OPS+ 169). The downside is that he has been sidelined with back injuries for the past five games with no timetable for a return, and has been an injury risk the past few years. Given Hendry's strong desire for Furcal a couple of years ago, plus the offensive sparkplug he could provide, should the Cubs target him for midseason? Wait until next year and give him the large contract he wants? Keep our fingers crossed that Greene becomes available?
  17. Fixed. Sorry, pet peeve of mine. :)
  18. Giving Pie the proper PAs to succeed>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jacques Jones
  19. I'm known to use my fair share of four-letter words but does Ozzie seriously need to use this kind of language with the press? You rarely, if ever, hear of any other professional sports manager/coach/official/etc. get away with this kind of talk. It's unprofessional and unnecessary. . . and just proves the whole Sox fan stereotype correct. If I was Reinsdorf, I'd just fining by the word.
  20. I finally got around to watching this yesterday and the segment on sports radio was a little more interesting to me. Specifically, it was Mariotti looking down on sports radio for being reactionary and inflammatory. I guess he really does forget his columns as soon as he spews them.
  21. This was definitely reminiscient of his barking last year around this time when he was asked about the Cubs losing streak. Maybe we're just a week or so away from a hat/dirt kicking incident which fires up the team.
  22. McCready took about every other drug, why not steroids too?
  23. This could be a good thing. Mars may be willing to pony up the cash to buy naming rights for Wrigley and keep it that way. And there are some games when I would welcome a package of M&Ms from the concession stand.
  24. I think you're mistaken. I watched it myself. It was abbreviated, but it was on. You're right, it was mucho abbreviated. I didn't even think of it as a "true" 10th inning show though.
  25. There wasn't a 10th inning show yesterday. The game went a little long.
