  1. Tom's payroll isn't going to change my loyalty. I'm just pointing out how we as fans have been programmed to believe to accept what they put on the field and be happy with it. Many Cub fans, don't expect much. That's what they want. Myself? I want more than a playoff appearance every once in a while. I'm not miserable at all. I'm a realist and not a rah rah fan who thinks it's ok to not try to win. I also think the 2025 was a success as far as heading in the right direction. But what is success based on. Expectations? A WC spot? The WS? Development? Improvement? Fans can be very die hard and still be critical of how things are being run. Die hard fans get upset. Rah rah fans don't get upset.
  2. Preach!!! I've been saying this for a long time now. Program the fans to have low expectations. Have the fans concerned about Tom's profits and keeping payroll down. Brilliant!
  3. To me the best option is to sign Bregman and have Shaw the utility infielder.
  4. I'm just stating facts, bud. They don't even try to hide it anymore. I don't hate Jed. He's just terribe at his job. The money he has to spend, and he can't dominate this small market division is pathetic . He's getting crushed! Yes, I'm very unhappy with the way the team is being run.
  5. If they prioritize winner of spending, which they are not, I'm signing Bregman to play 3B and Shaw to be the utility infielder, while taking over 2B in 2027. Team is so much better in this situation.
  6. This is their goal. This is why Jed got an extension for doing nothing as far as winning goes. The Cubs don't try to win.
  7. It's 100% about the contract. Even if they thought he would be the best pitcher in baseball for years, they won't pay him that amount.
  8. They really only have 2 catchers on the roster, and Bethancourt will be in Iowa waiting for an injury. Moises is not going to be counted on as a catcher.
  9. I assumed that he was out of options. Maybe he's not?
  10. The average FB in Japan is 91, so no, he's not seeing a ton of high velocity pitches.
  11. They got 4 guys, and none were top 100 players. To me it seems like a quantity trade. For a guy like Baz, I would expect a couple of top 100 players in return.
  12. I want to say it's the last pitch of the at bat. Either a strikeout or the ball is put in play. You can see 1000 FB's, swing at 400 of them, put the ball in play 200 times, and get 50 hits and that would make your average .250 against FB's.
  13. I only know what I read from the "experts." Just from what I'v read, and looking at tool grades, none of these guys are projected to be anything close to what Baz is today and moving forward. Projections and grades change, but today, I would much rather be on the Orioles end of this trade.
  14. I agree that it's a high volume deal for sure. I'm still not sold on the total quality for a guy like Baz. I'm sure I'll get criticized for this, but I think the Orioles won this trade easily.
  15. I agree that they are slow to update. I considered that but since nobody has updated anything past their end of year prospects, I felt good about their rankings. They are usually the last ones on to update. Thanks for the tip, as I will look at that for certain.
  16. I don't know who you use as your go to prospect page, but Fangraphs has the 4 guys traded from Baltimore's organization as their #11, #17, #20, #27. I know that Pipeline has their organizational rankings higher, but Pipeline gives a guy a 40 tool grade if he can tie his shoes. FG is much more conservative and pragmatic. To me this looks like more of a quantity trade. Of course they may all be stars! But right now, I'm going to side with FG.
  17. This is exactly the reason why numbering a pitcher in a rotation has meaning. Thank you for making it clearer.
  18. But people understand what's meant by the term. It's not etched in stone, but clearly it's a quick snapshot of a guys ability. But of course you clearly know this already being a baseball guy
  19. This I can get on board with. Today, I see him as a 3 or a 4. I'll trust that you think that the Cubs can get him to that next level, as Washington is terrible at doing that.
  20. I think you're right.
  21. His ERA, xERA, FIP and Savant page do not look like anything that resembles a #2. I should lower my expectations, I guess.
  22. I'm sure it's BS.
  23. Hahahaha....great analogy!
