  1. We see it exactly the same. This is exactly what happened. the Cubs made the choice to pay him 22 million after they owed him zero. Jed wanted that draft pick. He was wrong.
  2. But that wasn't the option at all. They chose to void the contract. It was over. It wasn't 3/57 or 1/22 at all and you know that. It was 0/0 or 1/22.
  3. He paid him 14 million in 2025. Jed was off the hook to pay him anything at all. The contract was void. Then he gave him a QO of 22 million. He accepted it and is now making 8 million more. Anyway you look at it, that's a raise.
  4. There isn't a logical baseball mind that would think for one second that he was going to turn down 22 million after the season he had. Like i said, there was even a thread started on here that he was expected to turn it down. Again, nobody in their right mind would think that he was going to turn it down. Either way, if Jed thought he was going to decline it, he was a fool. If the thought it was a good idea to give him an 8 million raise after that season, he's a fool. Obviously, I hope he gets fixed.
  5. I don't think this is about being cheap at all. But 31 million for one year is a lot for Imai. It's just not something the Cubs would ever do. And for the record, I don't think that Ricketts is cheap at all. I think he smart with his money for his business. I wish he wasn't so business oriented, but I certainly don't blame him. Also looking at the roster Jed has assembled for how much money he was given, I wouldn't give him any extra money either.
  6. When they both declined their options, they were off the hook! I was also in disbelief that they gave him a QO. The only logical reason is they thought he would decline it and they would get that draft pick that Jed covets. There was actually a report and a thread started on here that he was expected to decline it. I was thinking, why would he turn down suck a huge raise?
  7. Maybe they did? I think that may have been debunked.
  8. It would be weird!!! Every off season, I right down who I think the Cubs will be after. I ALWAYS eliminate the top costing FA's. It would be cool to have them on that list.
  9. None of these guys know what they are talking about.
  10. Maybe they do!! That's why they don't sign the best players either. All 3 teams shy away from the best players because they cost the most money.
  11. It's more than obvious that the front office is wrong with their beliefs. Yes they want to win. Nobody in their right mind would they that they don't WANT to win.
  12. But value signings are not what wins. That's pretty clear. No?? Value signings almost always miss out on stars. Stars win championship. It's pretty clear and obvious that value signing are not the way to go if they are TRYING to win. They aren't. Do they need to have a value signing or two? Of course! That gives them money to get the big fish. But they don't do that. Until they do, I'm right. THEY WANT TO WIN!!! So, let's put something that I never said to rest. Yes, they always put money first. I would do the same. I'm just stating a fact. They don't try to win. They try to save and make money. And that's what I would do if I owned the team. But I don't own the team so I want them to sign the best players regardless of the cost.
  13. I know you don't want to hear this or will agree with this, but they don't try to win. They are a value signing team, and not the best player signing team. They don't even try to hide it. Jed has said that he's risk averse and he looks for value signings. His actions very much confirm what he says. Winning is just not important to the Cubs.
  14. I've never heard any player announce what he's looking for. Only media speculation and fans parroting those number(s). So, we have no idea what he's looking for. Only what the media speculates.
  15. He's going to reach 100 innings pitched, so he's getting paid 21 million. Then they have to send 10 million over to his Japanese team. So they are going to pay 31 million for one year.
  16. This is 100% how I feel. We are rarely every even "in" on the top prospects. Fans actually believe that they are in on the top guys. They're not. They take whoever's left, or whoever will sign with them. It's just not how to win championships
  17. Dude, every year we are "linked to" every top FA's based on our money and need. It's all BS. I don't care who says we're tied to this guy and that guy. They need something to talk about. You know why we never here the Royals are in on this guy or that guy? They don't have the money. That's why the Cubs and other major market teams get discussed. The Cubs are rarely in on a top FA. And just about never sign a top FA. Checking in on a guy....being linked to a guy...tied to a guy, etc means zero. Making an offer actually means something. But that's where it ends with the Cubs and the top FA's.
  18. I think being "connected" or "linked to," or "in on," is based on the media and fans only. Any buffoon can tie a player to a team that has a need, is a major market, and has plenty of money to spend. Other than that, I think they are "in on" very very few guys.
  19. I feel very confident that he goes back to Toronto.
  20. Sounds about right
  21. That's what I'm saying also. If a fan has low expectations, and "not bad" is fine with him/her, then it is what is is for that fan.
  22. If the goal is to be "not bad," then I guess that's fine.
  23. Yep! His posting fee is about 10 million dollars. So like you said, with his innings escalator, he's basically signing a 1/31 deal that the Astros are on the hook for.
  24. Not if he reaches his innings it's not. But like I said, I don't have the ability to figure out the actual structure of a baseball contract. But the guaranteed money was pretty close. I don't know when a player gets escalators. I'm just not that smart.
