  2. A threat to who???? To me, "thought as a threat" means nothing more than the Cubs driving up the price to the real favorite. That said, I really have a good feeling that the Cubs sign him.
  3. I don't think he's on the market at all. It's just a response to someone else. The point is, I don't think he has much trade value. Someone like Wes and a "non prospect" should be able to get it done. It doesn't have to be Wes. But someone in his surplus value range should do it. Again, the Jays don't have a reason to trade him, and it's highly doubtful that they do.
  4. Any player that fits his surplus value. I just threw out his name.
  5. After 2024, they drop 75 million from payroll. I see them going to the 3rd level (277 million) if they sign Ohtani. I also don't see any way they can be competitive without going to the second level of 257 million. I'm not suggesting that they do this, nor do I want this, but the simple fact is, if they brought Belli and Stroman back, we're looking at about 40 million added to payroll, and they are not better than last year. They would then have about 10 million to improve the team from last season. They MUST go over the CBT this season to have winning goals.
  6. Vegas is already assuming that the Cubs are going to be big players this off season, as they are favorites to win the central now. They are 6th favorite to get to the WS out of the NL.
  7. I agree with this whole thing. I think that Vlad could be had by a guy like, Wesneski, and a Roederer type.
  8. I think that Steele and Bo have about the same surplus value. Plus, I'm not really sold on Justin, so I would make that deal all day long in a one for one deal.
  9. They have 75 million falling off payroll after the 2024 season. Even if they went all the way up to 277 million this season, it's going to fall back to the 200 million range, and be almost 40 million under the 2025 number. This is the year to go to the 3rd threshold. It's still only a 12% penalty until they pass 277 million.
  10. I think that PCA and Brown would get it done.
  11. What would a 6 year deal look like?
  12. I'd give him 4/72 and put him on the 2024 payroll today.
  13. It's 20.1 million a year to be exact! What a steal!
  14. This is just a contract that fits for the Cubs. He's very well looking at a 3/36 or 4/45. But the Cubs don't need him for that long.
  15. I think that they non tender 4 guys.
  16. I don't really see a prospect that needs to be added to the 40 this year. I think it would be more to free up roster spots for new additions.
  17. Ok, in a nutshell, where do you play him? How long before he should join the team? My point is not so much his OF abilities, more than we have a need at 1B, and he can get up pretty quickly if he plays 1B. I think it's a good idea to do it sooner than later too.
  18. He has a 40 speed tool, and a 30 FV speed tool. I don't think the Cubs care about Iowa, other than developing players. The move to 1B would be because the Cubs have a need there. I don't really see much of a path short term or long term for Caissie in the OF as it currently stands. If not 1B, then DH. His stick is big, and the OF is full in the majors and crowded in the minors. We need a 1B and to me he seems like a logical choice. Why would they wait? The need is there today.
  19. If the Cubs don't have any other options at 1B for the next few years, I would do 4/80. Yes, of course that's based on the assumption that he's 100% healthy. I would personally like to see them work Caissie at 1B because he's slow, and only going to get slower. Plus the OF is already in the minors. If they do that, than a one year deal for Hoskins sounds good.
  20. Would you be opposed to a 4/80 deal? But of course this would not be the big off season deal.
  21. I'd go something like 1/11 for Candy.
  22. I'm sure that he was asked the question. He certainly should answer the question. No?
  23. I agree 100%! On paper, so to say, the Cubs have no say so where Morel plays or hits in the lineup, etc. But we would be delusional to believe that the Cubs didn't make a request to play him at 1B. And I'm quite sure that it's in their best interest to comply with the request.
  24. They are 52 million under the cap. Assuming they non tender a few guys, they should have about 57 million to spend to the cap. So this is not exciting news at all. It's very ho hum.
  25. This is from the article on Oct 24 "Morel, a Dominican Republic native, is expected to spend upwards of a month playing in the competitive winter league. This isn't just a practice league either. These games are taken seriously with the goal of winning a championship. So, while Chicago would love for Morel to get reps at third base, it's ultimately up to Aguilas to decide what gives them the best chance to win."
