  1. I'm really on an island with my thoughts on this. Not surprising either! IF PCA hits in ST, I don't see a scenario where he's not the OD CF. His issue isn't hitting minor league pitching. It was hitting major league pitching. Facing more minor league pitchers is not going to help him hit major league pitching. Unless it's a hole in his swing, or something mechanical, I think AAA would hurt his growth. If it's pitch recognition or learning to catch up to a major league FB, it has to be done against major league pitching. IF Belli on on the roster, he has 3 spots to play. LF, RF, 1B. He's much better than either of our corner OF'ers defensively. By all accounts, Busch's best position is 1B. He not good at 3B, and even worse at 2B. His natural position is 1B. Cody is pretty neutral at 1B. This said, both the defense and the lineup would be best off if Cody played LF, and Happ DH most of the time. Cody can also move Suzuki and Busch to the DH spot for some leg rest for players. In my eyes, this leaves Morel as the odd man out for a lot of PA's. All of Happ, Suzuki, and Busch are much more toolsy and polished hitters over Morel. Does Morel have more value coming off the bench, or packaging in a deal for let's say young pitching? If PCA wets the bed in ST, they run Cody, Tauchman, or Canario out to CF until PCA gets right. How likely is it that the Cubs are not even in discussions with Cody, and it just hasn't leaked out?
  2. Looking back, I think that you're right. They would just lose them after 4 years instead of 6 years. I failed to mention the other part of my thought. The league should require the teams that profit from revenue sharing to spend those profits, or it goes back in to the profit sharing pool. They should not be able to profit 150 million of revenue sharing, and have a 90 million dollar. If they do, they don't get to keep the extra 60 million. I think that this would force more competitiveness, and it would also be more likely that teams would extend their younger players. Now with younger players are getting paid much more money during their prime years, and the small market team are forced to field a better team. Which is supposedly the whole reason to give them money.
  3. Every team is receiving about 200 million in revenue sharing. The low revenue teams are profiting from the system, and the high revenue teams are losing money from the system. Knowing that they are going to lose them after 4 years instead of 6 years, may force them to spend some of that free money instead of pocketing the free money. Start giving out extensions with that money. It's a shame that there are teams that profit more than their payroll is.
  4. He's not suggesting those players literally. He said that. He's just throwing out a couple of names as an example.
  5. I can't imagine Jed leaving 32 million unspent. Will he?
  6. Only 11 LLH had an OPS of .800 last year against LHP. I think "a touch below .800" is fantastic. for LHH vs LHP. To me, that's the furthest thing from a platoon option. I mean, what RHH would play against LHP over him, that has an OPS of .800 on this team?
  7. If they were smart, they would front load it so he's easier to trade him when they realize that they're sill not a good team with him, and want to get out from under what's left of the contract.
  8. No, it doesn't sound like a bad thing. It's a fact. There's nothing wrong with trying to get the most money they can. That's what they should do. And signing with Boras says, that money is the most important thing. And there's nothing wrong with that.
  9. When he hired Boras, it was purley money
  10. Outs Above Average (OAA) is the cumulative effect of all individual plays a fielder has been credited or debited with, making it a range-based metric of fielding skill that accounts for the number of plays made and the difficulty of them. For example, a fielder who catches a 25% Out Probability play gets +.75; one who fails to make the play gets -.25. At 3B, Nick was tied for 3rd at +11 OAA
  11. Ortiz grades out like Shaw. Hall is a hard throwing LHP with a good K rate. And they get next years 34th draft pick. For one year of Burnes, I think the Crew did more than fine. Maybe I'm just missing something.
  12. He'll still figure out a way to get hurt.
  13. Poplar Creek!!! I saw Rodney Dangerfield there. I've seen REO 14 times
  14. Kevin Cronin 😃
  15. I read that his only offer was 6/150. The Yankees must have been the team then.
  16. https://www.cubsinsider.com/2024/01/29/cody-bellinger-has-not-received-formal-contract-offer-though-discussions-have-taken-place/#:~:text=Quite a few eyebrows were,t come as a surprise.
  17. My belief is that 5 years of Morel is much more valuable than 1 year of Bieber. I think that it would be Morel for Bieber + someone like, Alex Clemmey. Morel is worth much more than Bieber on his own.
  18. If he makes the major league team, Miami pays the minimum salary, and Ricketts pays the rest. It's about a 750 k savings for the Cubs.
  19. As it stands right now, the Cards are favorite to win the division, with the Cubs close behind. Vegas has the Cubs win total at 84.5
  20. He's saving league minimum. That's something!
  21. In my opinion, I think that this was the only offer over 1 year. He got the best of both worlds. More than one year.....if he wants the 2nd year. But now he can opt out after this season.
  22. My one year guess was 1/6. Yes, my 2 years guess was 2/8. I think Moore got a nice deal
  23. You're probably right, but 6 years is through his age 36. For me, I wouldn't want him past 36 anyways.
  24. I think that's a fair market value offer.
