    All true. But they scout, draft, develop, and promote better than most teams. If they did that and had that extra cash to get them over that hump, I think they would be better.

    I was thinking the same thing here. Boston set a franchise payroll record last year and went over by a little bit. They are less than 4 million from going over again. Both teams are very similar with the way they operate. I just don't see Boston going over again. And if they sign Bregman, that will also put them over the 2nd level. Who know? Maybe they move enough money to sign him. Or they just decide to go over the second level. I just don't see it though.

    We should also remember that the CBT number used is the end of season payroll. So they can go over now and be over for 3-4 months and make a salary move at the deadline to get under if they choose to.

    I agree. I think that the amount of money available right now is no accident. I think they have the one big signing coming. And it should come before the convention if possible. Is it another OF'er?? Is it a third baseman which would also solve the utility bench guy problem?

    After the official arb numbers were adjusted, Cot's has the at 32.5 million under, and Roster Resource has them at 30.6 under. So based on this, they have the money for Bo. They can't "worry" about saving money for the deadline.

    With Cabrera's arb number included, they have about 33 million to spend. I'd guess that Bo is about 27 AAV. I can't think of any expensive deadline moves in the last 6 seasons. Just small inexpensive moves. And 2/3 of the players contract is already going to be paid for. I think they can sign Bo without a concern about needing money for deadline moves. Even if they trade for let's say Fairbanks it would only cost a little over 4 million.

    I think that Jed made a great move here. It also leaves money to sign Bichette and still stay under. I'd prefer Bichette over any remaining guy out there.

    Losing Caissie's pay and gaining Cabrera's pay, they are now about 33 million under the threshold. Go get Bichette!!

    It's been said that Caissie is the lead piece. I also read that Wiggins and Alcantara are also in the deal. But that makes no sense at all, so I very much doubt anything but Caissie for sure.

    He appears to be just about average out there. Corner OF need to be bat over glove anyway. His OAA was 0, and his FRV was -1. Like you said, he fine out there. A few dropped balls over the years have really skewed fans judgement about him.

    I think you may have mentioned it already, but the only advantage a major market team has is their financial muscle. If they don't use that one advantage it's like playing with one are tied behind their back.

    His bat is MLB ready, and his catching is AA.

    I don't know if you're missing the extremely clear point, or you just want to continue to challenge me. Our budget has not to do with small market teams. Our budget is more than enough to win our division due to how much more money we spend. The Mets are a poorly run team also. Spending foolishly almost certainly means they won't win. There's your Mets. And it's NOT about how much they spend. It's about how they spend their money. Ricketts is most certainly choosing not to spend MORE to win. Because winning is not important to him. His actions scream that. I'm of the belief that 240 million is more than enough for a good team president to win this small market division just about every year. If I was Tom and saw that winning wasn't happening under Jed, I wouldn't spend more either. He just doesn't spend the ton of money he has very wisely. But since winning is not important to Tom, he gave an unsuccessful team president an extension. That alone speaks volumes about how Tom feels about winning. So at the end of the day, we have an owner who doesn't care about winning, and a team president who doesn't know how to win.

    Of course it ties his hands. That goes without saying. Do you think that 240 million is enough to own a small market division?? I certainly do. So now it's back on Jed not spending properly. It's not about how much he spends at all. That wouldn't make any sense. He has a large budget. It's about HOW he spends the ton of money he's given. And he still can't win this division.

    There's no question that he has a budget. For the amount of money he's given to spend, he's done a pretty bad job. He's given more than enough money to completely take control of that small market division. When a president doesn't spend him money wisely, he runs out of money to spend.

    It's nice to hear this kind of talk. Jed can be a guy that sets the market, but he chooses to be a guy who reacts to the market. It sucks.

    There's really nothing a team president can do about how his players perform after he rosters them. I just don't want to see him only value shopping and try to sign the best players available. Just try to put the best players he can on the field. Not only value players on the field.

    Until Jed proves us wrong, that's what I'm going to continue to believe. He just doesn't have it in him to do what's best for the team. I'm not sure if he knows what to do but just doesn't have it in him, or he doesn't know what to do. There's a lot of Tom and Jed defenders in the fan base. I'm not one of them.
