  1. Again....I agree with this. That's why I don't think a trade is a realistic option. Because an extension is not a realistic option. Can you imagine trading for him at the cost that's being "reported" and not extending him? My God!
  2. tucker would be a fantastic get. But we have to think about the following season and on. His cost for one year is just too much.
  3. Those are questions that I can't answer. However, I see no chance of Tucker being a Cub. And also, we are trusting that the rumors are truth. The trade makes zero sense at all for the Cubs, because he's a one year rental. How this story got this far is odd to me. He's a contract that the Cubs wouldn't even consider entertaining.
  4. He's smart enough not to trade for him because he's smart enough to know he's not paying for an extension. I would LOVE to trade for him and sign him to an extension. It's not happening.
  5. I don't think it's a show. I also don't think the trade happens. It's a terrible, terrible idea to give up this much for a rental. It's obscene to think that the Cubs are going to pay him 350-400 million. So because of that, I can't imagine this trade ever going down. I'd be absolutely shocked if it happens for anything remotely to what's being "reported." It's nonsensical.
  6. I think that the Cubs are not going to trade for him because even Jed isn't dumb enough to know that he's not going to extend him or sign him as a FA. If being a realist is defeatist, then yes, you got me.
  7. Now this I agree with. But because we have a great idea of the asking price, I think that Jed's smart enough to know that the Cubs are out on any Tucker contract deal. So that means, no trade.
  8. I just don't see it remotely happening.
  9. IF it happens, he'll be a FA after the season. They are not going to give him 35+ million a year. And they're not paying him for 10-12 years. This is not even an option for this franchise.
  10. In short, then he's not trading any assets for Tucker. He's not going to give him what he's going to get on the open market.
  11. I don't think that anybody is saying this.
  12. Define attempt to sign him. 8/240? Because that's not really an attempt, knowing he'll be closer to 400 million.
  13. I agree with this. They need to stop worrying about every players surplus value until it's trade time. Just put the best them that they can on the field within the budget and move on.
  14. So true! Looking at Crochet...there's no team that can offer more than Jed. For us not to be able to land him would be a real shame. The rest of the league doesn't value our prospects as high as Jed does.
  15. If he's ever going to do something, this should be the year. I just haven't seen anything that tells me he's all of a sudden going to be an aggressive risk taking president.
  16. Do you guys really believe that Jed has it in him to do anything big or game changing?
  17. They have 5 SP ahead of him, and likely another one coming, and maybe 2 more.
  18. My statement applies if he doesn't make a major trade, or sign a top FA. So no, it's not common sense to not sign anybody to improve the team, or make trades to improve the team. It's terrible management.
  19. This is code for, "we didn't make any off season moves because nothing made sense for us."
  20. It was posted yesterday after the Kelly news. I'm a fan of Amaya, and I can't imagine DFA'ing him is something the Cubs would even consider.
  21. MLB Trade Rumors suggests that it might be Amaya that gets DFA, and not Thaiss due to he being a LHH. This is something that never crossed my mind.
  22. this is true. I just don't think the cost is worth it on such a tight budget.
  23. But how much are they going to be catching? Yes, Kelly is the better defensive catcher. I'd think he's getting about 6 million. I don't think the upgrade outweighs the cost. The budget is extremely tight.
  24. Thaiss 208/313/342 wRC+ 83 Kelly 224/307/373 wRC+ 85 For the cost, is it really necessary to "upgrade?" To me it's an insignificant upgrade for the cost.
  25. My preference would be 4 solid RHP, and 1 solid LHP. It's a lopsided league for right handed hitters. I don't know the answer, but do you know how many teams have won the WS 3 LHP, yet alone 4 LHP?
