  1. I think so too. He's going to have a break out season at some point. Hopefully the crew give up on him and ship him out of the division first.
  2. Hopefully that will be in the last week of September when they're resting their starters.
  3. awesome! Those threads were the best part of 2006...of course there really weren't any good parts to 2006. There was one good part to 2006...the part when they announced Dusty had officially managed his last game for the Cubs...
  4. The WSox offense seems streaky. If they're hitting come October, they're easily as good of a bet to make it as anyone else. That is, assuming the Tigers or Indians don't start performing to expectations and keep them out of the playoffs altogether, which is looking less and less likely now.
  5. I have to go with the Angels. They're playing better all around, while the BoSox are unbeatable at home, but not performing on the road. With the way the BoSox are banged up right now, I don't see them being healthier as the year drags on, I see them more beat up. I think the Angels will win home field, and take Boston in 7.
  6. well when others post things exactly like what you did there's no way to know your being sarcastic especially when you are the first to post. The smiley face or something would help though. I doubt any one on here actually thinks a thread on here can actually hold any kind of predetermination over how the Cubs do. It should have been obvious that it was sacrastic, some people in here need to lighten up. Anyone who has been a Cubs fan for more than a day should be aware by now of the teams history with perceived jinxes, whether they be billy goats, Bartman, or NSBB threads. If you can't draw that connection, then you've been living with your head in the sand. Now if you want to complain that the ruse is getting old, that's another story. Let's stop taking people so seriously when they suggest deleting and banning to jinx-type threads. I agree. That said, anyone who starts an injury update thread may or may not get accidentally permabanned. I'll give that a +1
  7. I don't know. I'd probably do a Marquis for Wolf deal with mid-level filler if needed. Wolf's contract doesn't extend past this season, does it?

  9. For the record, I don't think any team is cheating. However, if the BoSox were doing it, it's more likely to be this year than a couple of years ago. I didn't realize it until now, but they have a better record at home than we do! They're sitting at 26-6, while we're at 26-8. I wonder if the league wide splits are off this year compared to years past, there seems to be several clubs throwing the curves with exceptional home win-loss records (Boston, Us, WSox, Braves, Rays).
  10. Wait a second. In FORTY-TWO innings, he only had 11 outs happen as something other than a strikeout? Seriously? 115 K's, and 11 "other" outs? (42 innings=126 outs. 126-115=11.) I'm calling BS on this one. Either that, or he's playing against total crap. Maybe their catcher sucked...
  11. Totally OT, but I find that you have a quote about intercourse in your sig right above a link to the members guidelines to be hilarious for some odd reason.
  12. That's a must, unless we're talking about some kind of extremely extenuating circumstance. Maybe if the candidate is some hotshot from Europe, or something like that. At least give me someone with some indication that he's been in a court-side leadership role before, and shown some promise. This is the NBA, I don't think it's too much to expect someone with some kind of accomplishment in the area of coaching. Let Del Negro cut his teeth somewhere for a couple years -- heck, hire him as an assistant and find out if he's cut out for coaching. But head coach right away sight unseen? That's stark raving madness. Even if he succeeded it would *STILL* be stark raving madness. Porter did land that job. Did Cartwright get his head coaching gig without any assistance experience? I don't recall him being an ass't before we hired him. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten another gig somewhere, I don't think he did badly with what he had.
  13. Saying the home/road splits mean that we must be cheating is about as founded as using Sosa's weight gain throughout his 20s as proof he was juicing.
  14. That's a good WHIP for a bad year, but not a good whip otherwise. I don't think it's representative of what he's capable of. He seems to be affected by the rest of the team's crappy play, I think a change of scenery brings that down. I also think that's why I'm interested in him. You know, the whole buying low thing if Detroit could be coaxed into working out a deal for him.
  15. I suddenly like Angelos a little now myself...
  16. If it wasn't for the contract, I'd be interested to see if Rothschild could help Meche take that next step. Half of that though is because I'm sure KC wouldn't want too much for him with the ridiculous contract they gave him.
  17. Most of the rest of the NL is getting a similar benefit as us. Those guys you listed are missing significant time against everyone else as well. Where we are fortunate (knock on wood) isn't that our opponents aren't healthy, but rather that we are. Obviously, there other opponents get the same benefit, but the fact that were facing them all in a string is helpful. I mean look at the Rockies. We miss Hawpe, he comes back for the Brewers, and hits 2 home runs that ultimately decide both games. We've had a little bit of that against us as well. Remember Cameron coming off of the DL for Milwaukee and playing like an all-star? Only to regress against the rest of the league... The Brewers have been catching a lot of lightening in a bottle lately. What the hells up with Kaplar, Branyan, and Torres? If JJ Hardy and Ricky Weeks get hot while those other guys are still hitting, that becomes a pretty scary offense.

  19. Haha, especially at the Hoffpauir part. I'm sure the Royals are just dying to unload a premium trading piece for a 28 year old career minor leaguer with a sub .800 career minor league OPS. Those other guys don't have much value either, unless they are throw in guys around a centerpiece. I was thinking of Marshall/Gallagher plus 2 of Hoffpauer, Cedeno, Murton, and Patterson. If that's not enough, add a 3rd player from the group. Just forget it. These days guys with Greinke's profile are being dealt for the likes of Delmon Young and Josh Hamilton. That's what is meant by "very good, cheap, young MLB-ready hitter," not the collection of benchwarmers you've assembled. The only guy we've got that fits the description is Geo Soto. I wouldn't make that trade, but it's certainly the right ballpark. One article suggested that the Royals have a ton of holes both at the ML level and at AAA. While none of those players are a "Josh Hamilton", they certainly would help both at the ML level and AAA. Basically, I'm suggesting overwhelming them with quantity over quality. It's certainly worth a try since all they can do is say no. The Royals aren't necessarily known as the smartest franchise in the world. They are one of the franchises that might actually fall for the old quantity over quality offer. I'd offer up guys like Veal and Colvin first and see if they're interested in building around a package like that. You never know if you don't ask.

  21. Hahahahhah. You laugh, but they're going to have to make a move for some pitching if they ever hope to get back into it. The market isn't looking like there's going to be an abundance of options out there, they may have to shoot for a two for one. They gave up alot of their more appealing prospects in the miggy-willis trade. I don't see them getting a better offer than Marshall-Gallagher at this stage of the season. Anyone with a better package will likely wait until the deadline when return value is maxed. Any possibility of such a move is predicated upon Detroit determining they still have a legitimate shot at the post season, and that they can't afford to wait until the trade deadline while slipping further behind before making such a move. It's a long shot, but I don't think it'd be a ridiculous starting point given how far into the season we are and their situation. They're going to have to take a risk if they don't want to write the season off. Have you heard of any other teams offering up good young pitching during the first week in June?
  22. This should be in transactions. Would the Tigers be interested in a Mashall-Gallager trade (or a package starting there) for Verlander?
  23. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10857650 apparently, Bonderman will sit the rest of the year due to a procedure relating to a blood clot. This year is going more and more downhill for them. I wonder if they'd bite on a package starting with Gallager and Marshall for Verlander?
  24. That part of it I don't see. Sending Hart down for Hoff would just get them back to their usual 12 pitchers. I don't see them going back up to 13. That was a short-term move; staying with 13 long-term just leaves the bench too thin.I thought I saw a quote somewhere that they were going to bring up a DH for the interleague. If the move is just for the interleague, then I'm assuming they'll go back to where they are now, with 13 pitchers, once interleague is over. If they do that, I think Ascanio will come back up before Hart. I was always under the impression that his run late last year was lightning in a bottle, I don't think he's anything other than a lower-end to midrange reliever material. Ascanio could develop into a high end reliever on the other hand though.
  25. Hart will go down for Hoff for the interleague, then Hoff will go down for Ascanio after that, barring no one else going on the DL.
