  1. Spectacular He's gonna be ready to break someone over his knee by the time he pitches again. Z is awesome, even when he's on the DL.
  2. Could he have been adopted by an uncle or something? I don't know much about Ruth's history.
  3. Am I the only one who doesn't consider DLee the best hitter on the team? I'd like to see him dropped in the order and have Aramis moved up to third. DLee has stopped taking walks at the pace he used to for some reason, and he's seems to be hitting alot more ground balls (as evidenced by his extremely high dp rate). I don't mean for this to turn into a DLee trashing thread. I still think he's a very good hitter. But I think we're past the point where we shouldn't be holding him as our best hitter based on 2005. That is clearly looking like a fluke season now.
  4. If he did that and helped us win the WS, I'd let him take one IN my car. the real question is would you let him take one on YOU? No, but only because RynoRules already signed up for it.
  5. I wouldn't think his problem is in his arm slot, based on the assumption that the graph bk provided is still accurate. If his release point is more consistent than it was before, and the location of the release point is within the same range of where it was last year, he shouldn't go from what he was doing last year to the Ankiel like performance he's put up this year. Simply put, his release point is within the range he showed last year with less standard deviation. There's something else going on. I believe that either somethings not quite right with his arm/shoulder/elbow, or it's mental, or a combination of the two.
  6. AH! Its Rothschild's fault. I just knew it couldn't be the beloved wunderkind Hill. How about maybe the previous year and a half were more of an aberration and the league figured him out? One good pitch, one average pitch and he wasn't able to be aggressive anymore. The league didn't figure him out, he was walking everyone because Rothschild changed his mechanics. MLB hitters were hitting .191 with a .683 OPS off him when he was sent down. Lots of assumptions going on here. Did Hill's arm slot change because Rothschild changed his mechanics? Or did Rothschild see his arm slot changed at the beginning of ST, so he tried to change his mechanics to get his arm back in the right slot? I'm certainly not going to give LR a free pass on it, but I'm not going to put the blame squarely on his shoulders quite yet either, because I don't know which is the true case.
  7. On one of the easiest positions on the field to provide cheaply, and Murton isn't dirt cheap for too much longer. I just don't think Beane would assign a lot of value to him, especially since Murton isn't really the type of player that Beane could spin in a year or two as he became more expensive. Murton isn't on pace for a big payday just yet. Beane would probably be very happy if he could get him for a couple of years at near league min cost and he put up production worthy of a big payday in a couple of years.
  8. No it doesn't. American League teams keep 25 guys on their roster just like the NL teams do. What it does is it takes away jobs from guys that can play the field and hit and gives those jobs to guys who can't field but hit better. Or it takes away a job from a hitter and gives it to a pitcher, as AL teams don't need pinch hitters the way NL teams do. Either way, there's no loss of jobs.
  9. If he did that and helped us win the WS, I'd let him take one IN my car.
  10. It was a player poll. Even worse. I would think that every hitter out there would know he's no good. I don't know who thinks he's highly regarded anymore. Errr...nevermind, I see you were talking about the BoSox/Yanks comments... a lot of people equate overpaid to overvalued which is the same as overrated ... it's not how I think of it but there are indeed some people when posed with that question immediately go with the guy they think is the worst well paid guy If that's the case, then Zito should be number one, and I don't understand the others. There are others who didn't make the vote that are being paid over $10 million to be absolutely horrible, while the other guys are making $15-20 to be relatively somewhat better than average or better. [in my best ben stein voice] sexson? sexson? sexson?[/stein voice]
  11. Sweet. I'd never seen that website before, it reminds me of the old standupsports website (now defunct).
  12. Good point. I'm not big on aquiring any pitchers that are currently being abused by Dusty. Caveat Emptor. See: San Diego and Mark Prior.
  13. I don't know about that. He's not FA eligible and isn't raking in the dough yet. Some team will be dumb enough to drive the value on him up. I don't want him because I'm tired of hanging hopes of success on injury prone pitchers. I don't want to go into 2009 thinking we've got another ace caliber pitcher only to be strung along the whole season while waiting for him to come off of the DL. We've had enough of that this decade.
  14. He was here for the series from May 18-20 last year, his spot in the rotation just didn't come up. He's still a jackass though.
  15. It was a player poll. Even worse. I would think that every hitter out there would know he's no good. I don't know who thinks he's highly regarded anymore. Errr...nevermind, I see you were talking about the BoSox/Yanks comments...
  16. But this doesn't have anything to do with those intangibles. Dunn was criticized for his lack of passion for the game. I've never heard anyone suggest that such a characteristic actually hurts what a player does or hurts those around him. Having a lack of passion isn't the same as being a clubhouse cancer or not getting along with anyone else. At most, it would prevent him from being even better. Since Dunn has a long track record in the majors, everyone should know what to expect from him. A lack of passion doesn't change what he actually does on the field. It makes no sense. We're talking about JP Riccardi...
  17. Zito overrated? No, not even close. Overpaid? Yes. But overrated? I don't know of anyone who hasn't figured out he's no good anymore. The other choices are obviously BoSox fans and Yankees fans throwing the curb with their lack of knowledge of any other teams.
  18. Wow. That's three managers this week. Who's next? [Dusty turns cell phone off/]
  19. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-redsox-schilling&prov=ap&type=lgns It's sad seeing a great career like his end so abruptly and unceremoniously. Pretty classy guy.
  20. You mean like the character shown by their (as of 20 minutes ago ex-)manager when he got in a fist-fight with a starting pitcher a couple years ago? Or the character of a GM who goes on the air and trashes an opposing player? Zing! Another analogy of why JP should be thankful he's still employed.
  21. Frankly, the fact that Danks, or any other Sox player, doesn't like Wrigley makes me love it even more.
  22. Not exactly the type of retort I expected. I would have liked to have seen something along the lines of "JP Riccardi is simply wrong. End of story. Adam Dunn has more passion for the game than most of his peers. Ask anyone who has played with him, he always strives to give his best" or something like that from someone in the Reds org. Dusty almost seems to be challenging Dunn to get mad and show more passion in response to the criticism that has been leveled at him, which kind of validates what JP was saying. Regardless, I'd still love the guy on my team if he can keep giving the performances that he has been for several years now.
  23. I don't think anyone expects a quick call up for him. I'm just looking for him to quickly get back on track and maybe throw like the #2 we were hoping he would when the end of the year comes around.
  24. Let me be clear that Ricciardi never should have said what he did. But speaking strictly on the issue of Dunn's passion for the game, we'd all be wise to realize that Ricciardi and the Jays' FO knows way more than any of us do about stuff like this. The Jays have a whole staff of folks (scouts, coaches, etc) spread throughout baseball standing next to batting cages, hanging around clubhouses, and chatting in hotel bars, whose collective job is to gather just this sort of information on players. I'd say Ricciardi and the Jays' FO know a whole lot more about Adam Dunn than any of us do, so if he/they question the guy's drive, I'm inclined to think there's something to it. What seems to be getting lost because Ricciardi shouldn't have said what he said here is, what he said is probably accurate. Without hearing his comments, I suspect that's what Gottlieb is talking about here. What's more damning, in my opinion, is that the Reds organization hasn't come back and stuck up for Dunn. I'm amazed that no one from that front office hasn't come back and rebutted those statements. Even if those statements were true, you'd think they'd want to protect his reputation so they can get more for him in a trade, which they should be open to if the above is true. Or have they come out and released a statement and I missed it?
