  1. Z isn't trying to strike everyone out before. He's also keeping his pitch counts down as a result and going longer in games. Remember when Z would hit 100 pitches in the 5th inning every other start? He doesn't do that much anymore.
  2. He didn't walk anyone the last two innings, even though you'd think the other team's coaches would be onto his wildness and would be telling their guys to be taking anything questionable. I wonder if he just wasn't warmed up sufficiently? Or if being warm and ready to go yesterday messed him up, and took him longer than normal to get back in gear? Given his history and tendencies, it's surprising he struggled the first three then pretty much shut them down the 4th and 5th. He historically never has been the pitcher who gets significantly stronger as the game goes on, IIRC.
  3. Neither do I see the downside, in fact the guy gets better at each level. This could be a real plus in his development, as I think we need to keep in mind Jeff is cut out differently then most. Used to the stage from his football background, longing for the challenge. He also has experience in the pen. It may also help to motivate Wuertz to get his act together. Right now he is walking AAA batters. 3 his last performance alone. I don't think you can realistically expect a guy who wasn't lights out at high A and struggled at AA but has had some success in a small sample size at AAA to get better with the jump to MLB, especially when moving from the rotation to the pen without any time to readjust to the role first.
  4. Can you and Derwood just put each other on ignore already? The snide remarks back and forth are getting really old. really? that one's the tipping point? he made a pretty ridiculous comment about kids' skulls (?) being more durable (?) than adults' and i kinda called him on it with a little smart ass remark. if it was anyone besides me making that comment, you wouldn't have said a word. I wonder why. +2
  5. I beg to differ. Roy is definately worth 5-7 players HANDS DOWN. is Roy better than Rich Harden, who only cost 4 players (and Chad Gaudin came in the same deal?) Think about it dude Yes, Roy Halladay is much better than Rich Harden, he throws complete games like their going out of style. That, and he's much more likely to give you 30+ starts a year, though he's no sure bet either.
  6. I beg to differ. Roy is definately worth 5-7 players HANDS DOWN. Offering 5-7 players actually probably hurts our chances of making such a deal, as it becomes much harder to manage their 40 or 25 man rosters, depending on who is offered. Two stud prospects are better than any 5-man package we could offer in that regard.
  7. You don't hit 20 hrs in one month by taking alot of pitches...
  8. You have to wonder how much new ownership would really impact Hendry making a move like this. So what if they didn't want the additional $30 mil from Halladay on the books? Then they order Hendry to shed salary. It's not like $30 mil over the next two years is going to make anyone flinch at Halladay. He could trade him after the season and restock the farm if necessary. The only real risk is if he gets hurt. Even then, I'm sure the contract is insured. If Hendry can make a deal like this, it should be done at all costs.
  9. I'm surprised he hasn't ridden him to 130 pitches at least once yet. Maybe he learned something from his time here and somehow came to the conclusion that 120 pitches is the magic number he needs to avoid. #-o
  10. Someone on the first page of this thread said he needed to be added, or maybe I misinterpreted it. My bad.
  11. If they believe that he would be the best option at the moment to help the team, it is absolutely the right move. The Cubs shouldn't be concerned about option years and trying to cheap out on a players contract. Their only concern should be getting to the World Series. I'm sure that the Ceda idea has been kicked around and if they feel that Shark is a better option, they need to do it. There is no good reason to think he could even be mediocre coming out of the pen right now. No way no how, no matter how you justify it, is he the best option right now. If there were some kind of rationale that indicated so, then I would agree about the concerns over options and what not.
  12. The option year is already burned. You sure? How do you burn an option on a guy who has never been on any organizations 40 man?
  13. If they call up Shark, that would baffle my mind. It's the wrong decision for virtually every reason you could think of. He has pretty good numbers at AAA in a small sample size, but not great. He had horrible numbers at AA. His pitching experience is pretty limited. There are better options (Wuertz or Ceda?). Burning an option on him this year doesn't make sense. Taking him out of his starting role and throwing him in the pen at this stage as he's finally putting some good starts together in AAA doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense for his long-term development, it doesn't make sense for the short-term welfare of the team. Bringing Shark up now would be akin to offering Neifi a two year contract for twice the money per year that anyone else would have given him. Just. Plain. Dumb.
  14. Ceda could always take Fox's spot. Although i was thinking they might be saving that for Guzman. Don't we still have an open spot on the 40 man right now after trading Murt, EPatt and Gally for Harden and Gaudin? As mentioned before, we've got several guys that could be dropped from the 40 man if needed with no worry. Ceda makes sense as he'll need to be added in the offseason anyways, or we'll end up losing him. Our farm is too thin to risk losing any of our few decent prospects, I think the 40 man is going to get quite a shaking in the offseason.
  15. No. This was just a Gorden Wiittenmeyer article. Nothing to see here, move along now...
  16. Did you think we had picked Macias or Neifi back up?
  17. Howry wasn't the reason we lost last night. But, he is a problem in the pen. He can't be relied upon. I would trade him before demoting/trading/DFAing Wuertz, Lieber, or Eyre.
  18. Going from most sensible to least sensible reliever to be sent down or DFAd Hart Lieber Marshall Cotts So I guess it means Cotts will be sent down. Always happy to see Hoff come back, although I hope he doesnt bother unpacking his suitcase. No way I'd send Marshall down before Cotts, he's simply better. Liebs can't be sent down, I don't see Hendry DFA'ing him at all (although he should if Lou isn't going to use him).
  19. This deal makes the move for Harden look even better...
  20. this whole post has me scratching my head I think he believes this is a horrible trade for philly, and he's giving several examples of Philly making stupid moves in the last couple of years. Despite all of the stupidity, Philly is still winning despite the numerous bad moves.
  21. LMAO @ Hank Whinebrenner again...
  22. A lot of people will be excited about that Harden / Johnson match-up ? LMAO...I never really connected the dots between "Johnson" and "Unit" before...
  23. I read the rest of the post, and I think it's irrelevent. I think Hendry brings him back regardless.
  24. Hopefully Lou won't think he needs to throw him out there in 3 of the first four games after the break to see.
  25. Also, ROFLMFAO @ Z throwing that weak curve ball at Manny's head...
