  1. He's been suspended for awhile. Hasn't anyone noticed wavin' wendal out there manning third?
  2. Better still, an O.J. Simpson. With a Harding he'd eventually be able to come back. i dont think we should be seriously talking about murdering bob howry OJ didn't kill anyone If the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit.Mustabeen Chewbacca.
  3. Better still, an O.J. Simpson. With a Harding he'd eventually be able to come back. With someone else, and that'd be fine with me.
  4. Because we prefer to talk about how stupid the A's are for giving us Harden AND Gaudin for Gally and those two.
  5. I got that post up before Branyan went deep...argh! Somebody pull a Tonya Harding on Howry already! On the flip side, hopefully Gagne will be pitching next...
  6. I felt sick to my stomach when his name first graced the screen. Why the hell is Howry back out there yet Eyre can't get in a game? I'd put Eyre in there to face Branyan before I let Howry finish that inning. If you look at where hitters hot zones are and where Howry is pitching them, he's pitching them right where they like their pitches. It's amazing he got the first two hitters out, it's not amazing he gave up the lead to Russell freaking Branyan. WTF Lou?
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3508272&name=mlb_trade_deadline i don't know why they choose joba as a comparison when jenks is probably a better comparison, considering like the angels in '02, the white sox won in '05 actually nevermind, i do know why they choose joba to compare, its espn. Buster Olney said on "Mike and Mike" this morning the reason for the Joba's comparasion, is simply because of the electricity that each pitcher (Shark/Joba) brought to their resepctive teams. is that now the proper term to be used? I guess grit factor is sooo yesterday...
  8. Bob Watson sucks.
  9. So....Wednesday is the day we either confirm or put the pixie dust rumors to rest?
  10. That's because the home team fans when we're on the road cheer him because they're happy to see him on the mound against their team. He gets boo'd more at home.
  11. It's only two appearances, but it appears that there may be some tasty crow warming up in the oven for me. Time will tell, I still think it was the wrong move. I'll gladly take a bite out of that crow though if it's ready in a couple of weeks.
  12. Judging Tabata based on the fact that Melky was overrated is a pretty erroneous application of logic. Melky has nothing to do with Tabata. Also, as far as Melky goes, his biggest problem is he was rushed up too fast. He's still only 23, and should just be hitting AAA rather than be in his third season in the majors. The Yanks were hoping they had the next Miggy Cabrera or ARod, but the fact is that only a few hitters come along every decade that can be productive in this leage when they're 20. I agree that he's over hyped, but I'm not going to write anyone off as a bust at the age of 23.
  13. if Reds management was that smart they never would have hired him to begin with The management that hired him is no longer the management in Cincy. Jocketty is running the show there now.
  14. One other thing to note about Z...He is a sinkerballer. He also has the arm of a power pitcher. Unfortunately, his fastball doesn't sink when he dials it up to 94+. He's better when he dials his fastball down a notch. It took him a few years to learn to stop throwing everything so hard. I think the adjustment accounts for his motion. His arm slot may be a hair lower, but his motion is less violent than it was a few years ago, and should be better for the longevity of his career. I wouldn't be surprised if he's lowered his arm slot to put less torque on his shoulder and elbow after watching Prior and Wood sit on the DL the last 4 years. I would think that all of the problems Wood and Prior had must have made him at least a little more conscientious about his mechanics.
  15. Sammy was fantastic until he forgot how to take walks and force pitchers to pitch to him.
  16. I agree with the suggestion someone made on the last page to DL him then.
  17. i hate him because he doesn't throw enough strikes and isn't a good pitcher. i gave you reasons why i don't like him pitching for the cubs; reasons that were better than "i hate his stupid face" eyre's WHIP as a cub: 1.484, 1.796, 1.455. bob howry's ERA in his "oh my God DFA him season": 1.367 yes, over about 7 innings. his career WHIP is 1.513, which isn't good for a guy who played half his games in a very large park. his numbers have been a little better as a reliever, though a WHIP of 1.42 and K-rate of 5.8 per 9 IP is hardly impressive for a relief pitcher. Eyre's numbers are skewed from when our stupid commissioner wouldn't let him take his meds, and he got hammered the first half of last year.
  18. dude the guy is 19 years old and playing in AA. coming into this season he had a minor league OBP of .375, and last year he hit .307 with a .371 OBP in the hitter-friendly FSL - while he was 18/19 years old. i don't know if he's gonna be great, but carlos beltran had a .674 OPS at age 20 in the carolina league. tabata has good strike zone discipline, and his power is yet to develop, but again - 19 years old. and trenton is a graveyard for hitters, too. so throwing in the towel on him is pretty foolish. Agreed on Tabata. I still think the Yanks got the better end of this deal, but Tabata doesn't fall into that category of prospects that are overrated just because they're in the Yanks system.
  19. Agreed. It bugs the heck out of me that he's still on the 40 man. Get someone else on there for once! He's not taking a space from anybody, there is already an open slot available. It would be better to put him on the 60-day DL. That's consistent with what they both said, since putting him on the 60-day DL would take him off the 40-man roster. Actually 60-day DL keeps him on the 40-man but allows the team an extra spot. Taking him off the 40-man means releaseing him entirely. While that may be fun, it really doesn't help the Cubs. I think we're thinking the same thing but debating semantics. The main point, which we're both saying, is that it allows another player to be added to the 40-man roster. If you look at any of the mlb.com affiliated team sites, their 40-man rosters show players on the 60-day, but along with a footnote that says "not on 40-man roster."Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they keep Fox on the 40 man, then move him to the 60 day on 1 Sep or later, whoever they move onto the roster at that point to take his place is eligible to be put on a postseason roster, right? And if they made the corresponding move before 1 Sep, that player wouldn't be unless they were on the 25 man roster? Or was this the old rule before they set it so that you can change your 25 man roster before the LCS or WS if there's an injury?
  20. Howry's just in a rough stretch. He'll pull through. Just like the Cubs as a team. Just gotta take our lumps (and losses) until the ship rights itself. You don't just take your lumps when you have a one game lead. This isn't just a rough stretch.
  21. Would be good for the Yanks. Would also make me hate them even more Kosuke and B grade prospect for Dunn? Move Sori to right and plug Dunn in left. Haha, I can't see the Reds taking on that contract for what we've gotten out of Fuk so far. Then eat some of the contract.
  22. Would be good for the Yanks. Would also make me hate them even more Kosuke and B grade prospect for Dunn? Move Sori to right and plug Dunn in left.
  23. Time to go. Why the hell does Lou keep using him in these situations? He should have been relegated to mop up long ago.
  24. He's moved to and from the bullpen on multiple occasions over the past two years. I understand that. However, that should in no way provoke expectations that he'll magically improve by going to the pen for the big league club. He shouldn't be expected to do better at this level than he did at AAA just because he improved from AA to AAA (ignoring that he got worse from High A to AA).
