  1. for the love of god, make the Dodgers believe Baker can bring them back to respectability. And plz make Baker beg for the Dodgers. Plz...... Who could we demand back from LA as compensation (ala Sweet Lou for Randy Winn)? I'd take Odalis in return...
  2. I can't believe some of the attitudes around here regarding Hendry. The man was walking on water after '03. He had his hands tied and had very little flexibility to do anything last season, now he's a bum. Let's wait and see what the '06 team looks like when all is said and done, instead of judging him on some "maybe" comment about Burnitz.
  3. ah, I gotcha. However, that still prevents us from possibly aquiring a solid reliever that could be on the market while we're waiting to find out if Dotel's okay. I don't think we can afford too many more risks this year. From everything Hendry has stated since the Cubs season ended, I think he has become risk-averse when it comes to the injury prone. Time will tell if that is the case.
  4. I could see the NYY trading Cano and signing Furcal to play 2nd...but CF?....no....
  5. Backload that deal, trade him after the first season when Pie is ready.
  6. The bullpen is a different animal in that sense. The players that Dotel would be taking the place of aren't that spectacular, and they can wait to see if he pans out in AAA. Do you think he'd accept as a non-roster invite? No way, he's worth a guaranteed roster spot, and he'll get one in all likelihood. That's why we won't be able to see if he pans out in AAA.
  7. Very little credibility. I don't think there has ever been a major rumor that he has reportered (whether it involved the Cubs or Pete Rose being reinstated) that has turned out to be true. Will Carroll also isn't a beat reporter. He doesn't try to break rumors or news. He's always been more of an analyst than a reporter. I don't think it's fair to say he has very little credibility because he's never broken a major rumor that came true.
  8. I'd love to see Hendry trade for Soriano... Then use him as the key trading chip plus some excess AAA or AAAA arms to Boston for Manny. Boston is going to want a potential impact bat in return to replace some of the offense they're losing in Manny, Soriano might provide that.
  9. I don't think it's a mistake to take chances on guys like that with creative contracts (Dempster). It's a mistake when you rely so heavily on guys with recent injuries, and don't have a decent backup plan. This is a contradiction to your other notion that Hendry is directly responsible for not improving the Chiacgo Cubs in 2004 and 2005 partially because of signing too many high-risk injury contracts, isn't it? No, it's not. Guaranteeing small money is not high-risk. It may not be high risk financially, but guaranteeing a roster spot to someone who is an injury risk at the expense of someone you can count on for a year in a position where you are currently lacking when you're hoping to compete is a big risk to take. 10. I wouldn't mind him as our premier PH off of the bench...however, Dusty would be too tempted to start him over Murton. And for that reason, no thanks...
  11. Rat Farts! No Fassero next year I'm happy he's in the NL. I would be happier if he were in the Central, where we might face him 10+ times.
  12. Considering it was Hendry and his approach toward players, I think it is unlikely that Hendry would trade Walker based on the extreme discount he signed with us at. That is, unless, someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse, or if Walker agreed to be traded to certain teams.
  13. I would hope this would mean Nomar in left or right, Cedeno at short, and Walker at 2nd. Get a good leadoff CFer, and then focus on the bullpen.

  15. That's my guess. He knows how the hot-stove can be. Probably laughing his butt off right now. Sometimes, one of my buddies or I will start a rumor, just to see how long it takes to get back to us, and how much it has changed from the original rumor. The results can be pretty interesting sometimes. From what I know about Dempster, he's the type that would do that too.
  16. Hairston + one of Mitre/Welly/Leicester for Bradley, anyone?
  17. who the heck is oliver?
  18. I'm curious to hear what Astros fans are thinking about Lidge right now. My first thought is: Lidge = BH Kim. Is he done in Houston? Is he permanently labeled a choker? Or does the common Houston fan view this offseason as an aberration of things to come?
  19. If they trade ARod, they'll likely get a plethora of players back in return. They could be bigger players in the trade market as opposed to the FA market than they typically have been in the past.
  20. I heard from someone today that he had a little mirror on the knob of his bat and he was stealing signs...
  21. I thought he was that good this last year. Really. As a matter of fact, I think the Cards should sign him to a 10 yr, $270 million extension. ':wtg:'
  22. It could be that he wasn't rostered yet because they don't have the space. Do we have any openings on the 40 man roster yet? I think it's safe to say that they're going to make some moves this winter, and some of the excess arms in AAA are sure to be bartered with. The fact they didn't roster him yet I don't think means in anyway that they are not going to offer him before the Rule 5 period. I think it's a safe bet they'll add him once they make some moves in the offseason and have more space.
  23. I don't know who I'd prefer between Floyd and Mench. With Floyd, we'd be buying high, and with Mench, we'd be buying low. On that note, I'd lean toward Mench, we'd likely get more for our return. However, I think Floyd is a safer bet to put up better numbers, so the Cubs would be better off with him in RF next year.
  24. We just might get a decent draft pick back for Rusch. If they use the last two years to rate FAs and what round draft pick a team gets as compensation, his performance last year should really help his value. If I'm Hendry, I'd tell him upfront that he's going to the pen if he comes back, then offer him arbitration. If he really wants to start, he'll turn it down, and we'll get a draft pick out of him.
  25. What happened to Moorad? Did they can him already? I must have missed that.
