I agree they could use another bench bat but i just feel like Hoyer going to go with the depth he has now there over looking for a guy to spend 5 mil on that wont make much of a difference and if he spends on any position it'll be towards SP and Bullpen. I think theyre going to wait on Sasaki and if they don't get him, then they'll look to see who available to add for depth before ST starts. Imanaga, Steele, Taillon, Boyd, Assad These are likely the starters, Assad will go to pen if they get Sasaki or add another SP upgrade before ST. They can always add more bullpen depth I dont think they care what their payroll is going into OD as long as it under the tax threshold. they have somewhat of a legit reasoning if they use the fact that they have legit players at every starting position and in rotation now, especially if they keep Bellinger.

Shaw is likely going to get the opportunity at 3B going into ST with Mastrobuoni being the just in case for 2B if Hoerner isn't ready for OD. I think the money they have left to spend whether they trade Bellinger or not, will be towards pitching.

They still have Mastrobuoni and Vazquez 🙄 But yeah come to think of it, with the uncertainty of when Hoerner will return, they may need to add a cheap infielder.

Im kinda hoping they keep Bellinger, i like the look of the lineup with him in it and the depth it gives the roster. I dont think they plan on adding another position player via trade or FA. I think outside of maybe another bullpen arm, they are probably just looking at Sasaki or another SP if they don't get him.

The deadline for Sasaki is in January, can he make his decision before the deadline or does it have to be after ? Just wondering because if Hoyer is actually going to make a legit offer for him, he probably won't be making any FA offers or trade offers for a SP until he knows about Sasaki right ?

All the Yankees Bellinger trade talk that made it seem like it was close, im wondering if it wasn't close at all, only because if it was you'd think that deal would of been made by now considering the Yankees aren't getting Tucker now and that was supposedly the hold up as far as if Yankees got him or not.

If Bellinger has to be traded, I would like to see him go to the Phillies for Bohm. Then use Hoerner to get a SP and start Shaw at 2B. -
Seems like the Tucker trade is waiting on the Bellinger trade to be completed, and money is the issue with the Bellinger trade. Hoyer likely wants the Yankees to take majority to all of Bellinger money so they can make additional moves

I dont think he'll risk trading Shaw, Caissie, or Horton for a player with no guarentee of extending pass 1 year. If you trade any of those 3, it better be for a player that gonna be around a couple seasons

That how I approach the offseason and trade deadline with Hoyer, low expectations for them to actually get star quality players. I was surprise they got Imanaga and I'll be surprise if they actually get Tucker, or anyone of that quality this offseason.

Exactly why this trade won't happen if the Astros are looking to get any of the cubs top 3 prospects, Hoyer not going to trade away their best prospects on a 1 year rental with no guarentee of extending him.

Winter meeting over, cubs only added a rule 5 guy ans as always are in a bunch of rumors on players. Let see if anything actually gets done before the Hollidays

Suzuki threw a wrench in Hoyer's plans, he was focused on moving Bellinger and his money 27 mil, now it likely going to be Suzuki and his 19 mil. That could be 8 mil less to spend and different players in return now.

Like I was saying before, they can trade Paredes and play Shaw at 3B, he was playing there during winter league tournament.

I didn't say he's a mess, I said the roster was a mess and has no real direction right now. They have an obvious need of upgrading the offense but have every position tied to a contract or team control, and the only players being rumored in deals right now are possibly their better offensive hitters in Suzuki, Bellinger, and Hoerner(Mariners). Their two top offensive prospects in Shaw and Caissie may not be quite ready but are as of now blocked. I dont believe there are many options to improve on who they already have via FA outside of Santander and Alonso, plus adding them would mean trading one of their current better hitter so improving the offense in minimal at best. The only other options would be to trade for an upgrade with their top prospects while also trading one or more of their better hitters to make room for the new addition(s). Again they're needing to trade one or two of their better hitter to make room plus trading their better prospects to gain minimal improvement on offense at best.

Remember when I said Suzuki could waive his NTC..lol Hoyer has a mess going on right now with his roster, there really is no direction with this team. Just a bunch of average players under contract/control, their probable best 2 hitters looking to be traded now, and no place to play their top prospects.

Jesse Rogers says there's some smoke with Cubs and Astros for a Kyle Tucker trade. This would be huge if they are planning on trading Bellinger
