  1. Lester only cost 20 and 25 mil per his first 2 seasons and they added around him with Heyward, Zobrist, Ross, Lackey, and it was a 7 yr deal. Big Big difference then just adding Ohtani for 40 to 50 per for 10 to 15 yrs, and not really adding much around him if that would be their intentions because of the Threshold.
  2. Don't know why this is so hard to understand what I'm saying.. If there no intentions on adding additional payroll to the roster to upgrade it other then just adding Ohtani and his 40-50 mil per because they don't want to be over the Threshold for multiple seasons and pay penalties, then NO id rather they pass on Ohtani because this roster isn't good enough even with him to win a WS championship in the next couple seasons and it would be a waste. BUT IF they do intend on upgrading this roster with added payroll this offseason and next, and not care about the Threshold because they're going all in on competing for a WS championship with Ohtani over the next 5 to 6 seasons , then YES go get him.
  3. That what I said in my OP and response.. If they are going to add to the payroll with upgrades to the roster over these next w offseasons and not worry about the Threshold, then yea go get him. Otherwise no, I wouldn't want them to commit 40 to 50 mil per year on one guy, who gonna be 30, that gonna eat up most of the payroll for the next 10 to 15 years.
  4. So you're ok for them to commit 500 mil to one guy if they're not going to add anymore upgrades/payroll to the roster because they don't wanna go pass the Threshold for multiple seasons ? Rangers added more then just 1 guy, they added over 800 mil in payroll on multiple players to improve themselves. Harper was 26 when he signed his deal with the Phillies
  5. I'm not saying they shouldn't go after a top guy, just saying they're not ready for a 30 YO 500 million 10 plus year contract top guy, because they're not close with this current roster to competing for a WS championship with just Ohtani added to it. Like I said, if their intentions are to spend more and add additional upgrades to the roster this offseason and next to put themselves in position to compete for a WS championship over the next 5-6 seasons, then yes go get Ohtani. If not, then adding Ohtani money is useless if that all your doing spending wise cause it capping you out payroll wise with not wanting to be over the Threshold for multiple seasons.
  6. Right.. but I just think that unless your already pretty much built to win it all like the Dodgers, Rangers, Astros then it worth getting a guy for that money, I just dont feel the Cubs are in that category yet for a WS run. If their intentions are to add a couple other solid top players this season and or next, then yea go for broke and let have fun for the next 5-6 seasons.
  7. That pretty much the norm, and even during the meetings not too much happens. I think most of the transactions get done right before the Holidays and right after for the most part
  8. 500 mil for a player that will be 30 is a crazy amount of money to tie up into that person. If you go 10-12 years, your paying a guy 50mil or close to it, who likely not even playing anymore at the time from age 38-42, even more so if you go 15 years to lower the annual salary. I mean it'll be awesome maybe the first 5-6 years, but unless you have a team built around him ready to win championship ( Angels had good teams, and didn't come close) is it really worth signing him to such amount and years ?
  9. Not saying that per se, again, just saying to improve on what the TEAM'S record was in his 27 starts in 2024, they do just need someone who will start 27 or more games and the TEAM has a winning percentage of .487 or better in those starts to duplicate or improve on what they did in Stroman's starts last season.
  10. His starts produced 13 wins for the team last season despite and no matter how well he pitched in those starts, the team was 13 and 14 in those starts. So again, my point was not about how good or bad Stroman pitched, my response was about duplicating or being better then the outcome of those starts, and getting those results won't take a big time SP to do so. what so hard to understand about that?
  11. Those 13 wins are team wins in his starts, not Stroman's wins, and Assad numbers get more then replaced by the new Starter they bring in.. But My point was, it not going to take a really big addition to replace Stroman's team win totals of last season, whether it Asssad or another not so Big time SP as the poster I quoted was suggesting.
  12. They went 13-14 in Stroman's starts, so replacing his numbers just requires more of an upgrade move over a big move. Someone like Assad might be able to match or surpass 13 wins in a full season.
  13. Agree, I tend to see them saying oh shucks we tried for the big guys but they chose elsewhere, but instead of the usual mid to low level guys they seem to target the majority of times, I think this offseason we may see a couple of guys just below the Ohtani level of players. I also think we'll see a couple of big trades for them too.
  14. Yea, I didn't see this one, I read a couple tweets from posters talking about rumors, they probably were talking about this.
  15. Glasnow for Mervis and Thompson has been brewing via rumors
  16. I really hope the rumor about Bichette is true, ive liked him since his first season. With Swanson, that left side will be pretty awesome both offensively and defensively for a few years( hopefully they'll eventually extend him).
  17. With this rotation for the Cardinals, The Brewers doing a semi rebuild, and the Reds and Pirates being the Reds and Pirates, The Cubs have a big opportunity to run that division for a couple seasons by making the right moves.
  18. Take Nola off your wish list.. https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/1726279759804440761?t=vrhuQcGHzVROhP8Pl5awqA&s=19
  19. Be worth offering him a 2 year deal, maybe a 3rd option to rehab and be ready for 2025. Wonder if Counsell will try and get him in.
  20. Can you imagine the Cubs getting both Ohtani and Alonso ?
  21. Can you imagine the Cubs getting both Ohtani and Alonso ?
  22. Not a surprising move... https://twitter.com/BleacherNation/status/1725496037014454282?t=1iJb_x52Wv54ZLlBWAcboA&s=19
  23. Wonder if Hader would consider pitching for Counsell and the Cubs, he'd be exactly what they could use in the pen.
  24. Wonder if we'll see the Cubs making a trade or two here..
  25. They have inhouse options but I still would like to see them add a couple of vets that been solid.
