It would be a cub thing to do, they could offer him a 2 or 3 yr deal with mutual options.

Just saw that Bellinger hasn't recieved any offers from any teams yet, this could set up a return to the cubs for a deal with early opt outs.

They did something but it another non spectacular signing/trade that won't hurt them financially if he sucks. The overall roster still don't excite me enough to feel like they're going to be anymore then a 500 or a few pennies over team next season. -
I've never seen a team that has money to spend, positions to fill, and just sit back and do nothing to fill them. Does signing Bellinger dictate so much of who they add to the roster at other positions of need

That seems to be Jeds approach to Free Agency with the top players from each position of his needs. Instead of being aggressive and getting the guys he wants, he waits for the last one standing to try and get him closer to what he willing to offer.

Just over a month before ST and still no clear idea on who will play 1B, 3B, or CF for them. As of now, we're looking at Busch, Madrigal, and Tauchman as their starters with Wisdom, Mastrobuoni, and maybe Canairo on the bench.. ( all on projected depth chart) Holy struggling offense batman...

Very interesting that Swanson is the voice for Bellinger to return to the Cubs. Hopefully both sides see this as a positive and Jed is willing and Bellinger is willing to meet half way and work out a deal that will satisfy both sides.

They better hope he not still trying to figure it out in May. Then they gave up 2 young kids with future potentials for 2 guys that are very questionable.

He didn't look ready in SSS 80 PA with the Dodgers, nothing wrong with starting him in AAA and working on what he was having trouble adjusting to.

Busch looks like he still needs time in AAA. I wouldn't ink him onto the opening day roster just yet.

Surprise a little that Hader is not on that list or one of the other closers. You'd think a closer or setup reliever is a target along with 2 of the bats.

Not really, they have 2 full months to negotiate instead of 3. Most players are signed by February

Most definitely, they hype up the GM meeting in December and not much happens there. So, I think November should just be about the awards and FA/trades shouldn't start until the GM meetings and end on February 1st. Trades can still happen.

With the Convention 9 days away, you have to think they will make a significant signing and or Trade by then. Can you imagine going into the Convention with Craig Counsell as the only major addition to the team ?
