  1. Might as well get this started.
  2. I just assume Beane has superior information on Harden's health. Essentially it is Gallagher for Harden. That's a challenge trade.
  3. Not true! His teammates liked him except for Jeff Kent. Is that an indictment? I have spent some quality time with a former SF Giants coach and what you say simply isn't true.
  4. He's done what he had to do. The first month he was huge for us because the starting rotation was still finding its legs. The last month and a half, the starting rotation has been great for us, and the long man hasn't been needed very much. Lieber cannot really be used as any other role out of the bullpen consistently because of his huge splits. He's one of the least overall needed guys on the team, but he's a nice insurance policy back there. I actually thought it could have been a good idea to start the 5th with him on the mound. 4 IP 2 ER might have been as good as one could have hoped for from Marshall, and I like the idea of piggybacking with some of the fringe guys in the rotation and long relief. I think piggybacking is a good idea in general with these two. Lieber starts, and I guess you can't have a repeat of that game in Cinci. Then you bring in Marshall. Opposing managers have to leave the lefties in so they're available against Marmol and Wood late. Seems there is some advantage there.
  5. ...or at the same time. I think the Blue Jays would like to get out of Vernon Wells' contract. Burnett and Wells for every spare part we have. That'll be going all in for this year. wow...how is his wrist? i would be all over that trade Who knows what it will cost us. Wells came back quicker than they expected.

  7. I am as concerned about overusing Marmol as anyone. But this was some severe overmanaging by Piniella. Not his best day.
  8. Win or lose, a very entertaining team.
  9. He has lost a few steps over the years.
  10. It's kind of hilarious that the league leading offense has its worst two hitters batting 1-2.
  11. Is that the same step Rothschild took with Rich Hill? I didn't know Cub coaches posted here.
  12. Last year Wells actually had a passable PECOTA and I thought there was no way he had an MLB future. But with a decent year last year, sticking (a little) after a Rule 5 pick, and a good start in Iowa, can this former catcher also be close to helping the Cubs?
  13. I bet it makes him harder to identify.
  14. Well, you could not mess with a guy's swing when he's had success at all levels. CPatt didn't have as much success in the minors, but Pie's had quite a bit, especially after making adjustments at each level. I'm not sure why Lou's hell bent on changing things with young players that have had success in the minors. If you have to make an adjustment to how you're being pitched, that's one thing. But sounds like they're making big changes to Pie's swing. ..which may be proven by his abysmal start in Iowa. I mean in nearly a thousand PAs at Iowa he was hitting over .300 with power. This has to be the biggest slump of his minor league career.
  15. A good friend of mine is in that movie. He is a tall doofy looking guy with big glasses. He got his SAG card by yelling "don't spill the beer" after the Knights clinched a tie for the pennant.
  16. Second coming of Roberto Novoa.
  17. Misleading stat of the day. Sort of like teams' records with 100 yard rushers.
  18. There may not be a lot of hot prospects in the system at the moment, but OTOH, look who's at Iowa: Rich Hill Felix Pie Sean Marshall Matt Murton et al That's probably true for most systems, no? Guys who have played and even had success in the Majors? Hill is probably not going to be down there that long anyway.
  19. Why are you worried about trade value? Why don't you hope he's a good replacement for the fading Ward? Because hopefully, D-Lee wont be going anywhere soon, and if Hoff really is capable of what hes done in AAA the past few years as well as ST, he could land somewhere as a starter, an opportunity he'll never get with the Cubs. Some with Matt Murton. Hoff is 28. This is as good as it gets. Why can't he be our John Mabry type for a few years? Ward isn't going to last much longer. Murton is different. He is a couple years younger and owns a .295 MLB average. If we didn't talk him down he might have some trade value since, we agree, there is no use for him here. Is it possible if Edmonds continues his decline that we'd get a Soriano-Fukudome-Murton outfield?
  20. I am sure you have dispensation my son. You should have started a long time ago.

  22. Does anyone remember John Starks' tenure with the Bulls? That might be the only situation worse than this. Starks almost refused to play for the hated Bulls, and IIRC the Bulls fans booed the hell out of Starks during his only home game here. I was there against the Clippers. What a bad Bulls team. Hersey Hawkins hit the game-winning free throws. As far as Edmonds, it is so like the Cubs to go this route. I hate it philosophically, but are any of us sure that he won't outproduce Pie over the next two months? I am of the mind to let Pie play against every righty until the trade deadline. If he is still at .222/.286/little power, then we may need a longer-term solution anyway. The Vernon Wells injury put an end to the Burnett-Wells blockbuster I was anticipating.
  23. They're skipping him on the theory that the less he pitches the better off the team will be.
