  1. You mean you'd rather see the Cubs sweltering in the heat of the August sun and burning out like in 1969? Did they burn out in the 1984 sun? 1984 was the coolest Summer on record to that point.

  3. Based on your avatar, apparently you do let yourself believe.
  4. Lee is not the player he was even in 2003. He'll be 33 in September and his decline has been pretty noticeable. The next two years could be really frustrating. But as someone else wrote, what are the viable options? If he's average, maybe we have to settle for that.
  5. Wrote this in the minor league thread. But why is this Single-A coach the one to try and salvage this major league asset? I know Riggans, the organization's pitching coordinator totally changed Hill's motion in Arizona. Have they just dumped Hill in Daytona? He is not your typical Single-A pitcher.
  6. And is this Single-A pitching coach the right guy for the job? I mean, why is a lowly Single-A coach entrusted with the reclamation of a multi-million dollar asset? Makes no sense.
  7. I think with the escalation of player salaries, most of Marquis' $9 million for next year might be "movable."
  8. DePodesta gains more in that context by being less than honest. Love to see Cuban hire him as GM though.
  9. I know. But how many other guys on that team have had a run like that? I'm just frustrated, I guess, at how all this transpired. The Pennant Race is great. But if Edmonds continues to be hobbled, or even for next year, are we going to do this all over again? Give him the job and then give up on him if he's 3/16 after four games?
  10. I was one of those that wanted Pie to stay in Chicago and adjust. But his 2/31 start is now a small part of his stat profile. So he's hitting .300 in his last 200 AAA ABs? So what? Where does that even rank on this team?
  11. If you don't throw the change-up inside, a hitter knows that anything inside is going to be hard. The margin of error is small, but it is a very effective way to keep hitters off balance. Glavine said this in Leo Mazzone's book on pitching. It's not some know-nothing on the NSBB message board.
  12. Kontos is a local guy who I see at my gym in the winter. Works his legs like crazy. My knowing an active major leaguer will have to wait a little longer.
  13. Unfortunately, whatever positive change Riggans has made, this is the guy with a k/9 of 12 in AAA two years ago. So he is not the same pitcher.
  14. ...and struck out. But at least it showed that he isn't seriously injured. I'll take it. I keed, I keed.
  15. ...and struck out.
  16. Wasn't his 2005 trouble an ankle?
  17. Do pitchers have more surgery than football players? This is brutal.
  18. We have two RHs now.
  19. I'm not clear on the details of Burnett's opt-out clause. I figure Harden is going to spend time on the DL, but I don't think we need to deal for a starting pitcher.
  20. I think trading Lilly is a possibility too. He will have 2/$20 million left, not terrible in terms of money or length. We have suitable replacements in Hill and Marshall who are much cheaper.
  21. Might as well get this started.
