  1. This is an interesting statement. I've always been a cubs fan, but I wonder if they can drive me away for good. This year was the first year I gave up and didn't feel guilty...nor did I attend one game and I live in Chicago. I wonder if the 100 year mark will force people away because that's just embarassing.
  2. I blame my father for me being a cubs fan. He took me to games all my life. Every year I blame him for this curse. He's actually stopped following the cubs and going to games...
  3. I'd think he'd be a good 1st base coach and liason to Lou on the young players in the system. Isn't third base coach more important and Quade doesn't have much MLB experience right? I didn't hear Von Josua's name as a possible hitting coach either...any news?
  4. co-sign adding a 3rd signature. Finally a rotation that doesn't depend on Prior. 8) Doesn't that lineup say 3 out of 5 pitchers are a wildcard with 1 journyman (Lilly)? Matsuzaka might be great but he is an unknown. the 5th starter would be unknown but not the biggest concern as its at the end of the rotation. Hill looked great at the end and I really hope he's the real deal, but do we collectivly think he's a solid 2 or 3?
  5. Are you serious? They are jokes...man this board is so uptight
  6. The baby collided with the nurse on the way out of the womb...early indications are a sprained shoulder. ZING Congrats though...hope the baby is healthy and happy along with the parents.
  7. When he put on that Jersey. I swear Duncan is a Genius or they are the luckiest team alive pitching wise. they turn lemons into lemonade consistantly. Look at Weaver for god sakes!
  8. I wonder if national writes have a database of "catchy quotes" about the cubs that they whip out when they need a story on the cubs. No matter what the story is about, it always goes back to curses, billy-goats, and all that cr*p. I wish it would go away, I wish people would just let it go. I guess until they win it won't though. Sometimes I wonder even if we win it, they'll still say, "well its only 1 in a hundred years".
  9. what scares me is the "hopefully Ramirez" part. Without him, its still 2 bats!
  10. Surgery? Time to move on. Good thing they drafted DB's, but they are going to need more. The man is snakebitten! You think its time to cut ties with Brown...they seem to really depend on his leadership. Although it doesn't matter much if he doesn't play. I wonder if peanut can play saftey. I don't trust Johnson to cover but he brings the wood. Chris Harris makes bad decisions, don't know much about McGowan.
  11. Maybe we can hit them where it hurts...in their pocketbook! Tickets may have been sold, but it was obvious people weren't going and now this supports less people were even watching. Good to hear.
  12. I can't wait for Lou to bring in the talent like Dusty did
  13. Who said anything about Suicide? Honestly, it was your comments that put it in my mind. "I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not." Own up to what, if not some sort level of culpability? Also, USSoccer said "Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this..." Same deal. I didn't say that oohh . . . sloppy quoting on my part - I meant to address Derwood who was quoted within your post. Sorry :) oh ok...makes sense

  16. they say its not confirmed he was flying it, just on it. He is a novice pilot though and the plane was registered to him
  17. Lidle dead confirmed by 670
  18. Can Anderson play that side end...I'd start him and give Wale a break and get healthy for a LONG season, Hamstrings tend to linger
  19. No kidding...fine, people don't believe it, he's just making a statement on a message board for god sakes. No one can prove one way or another if he's right or wrong so who cares! The idea itself is fun to talk about though, why can't we stick to that?
  20. I like Kerry Wood a lot, but to say he should be a cub for life based upon what he has given the cubs seems to be putting your view of him over what he actually gives a team. Would he still be on the yankees or some other historically sucessful team?
  21. I don't have any feelings towards the sox either way because they don't effect the cubs. I hate the cardianls, and if they blew the lead that would make me smile all winter.
  22. For the overall numbers at that price I have to agree, and if that's the arguement I'm on board. I still want to know what this magic cut-off number is for OBP is for someone to be worth "X" amount of money.
  23. Sorry, misread that, didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I was just trying to say that his 200 hits have contributed to his obp. I guess my point is what is the cutoff for an acceptable OBP? Say Pierre did what he did in the 2nd half (.353 I think), is that ok? I'm just trying to understand people's cutoff and if its the number itself or HOW they get to that number...be it via hits and no walks or mainly hits.
  24. Yes he is. The Cubs single great offensive weakness is the lack of OBP, and that ties to an unwillingness to take walks. In other words, the Cubs aren't good offensively because they make outs too frequently. And Pierre is part of that very large problem. Hit totals don't mean anything. I'm on board with the OBP, I really am. I just don't see how "hits don't mean anything". Isn't getting on base via a hit contribute to the OBP? I think the fact that he gets so many hits is a very good thing in itself...but you are right on the fact that he doesn't walk enough. I still don't think he's a major problem though, i'd be more worried about other positions. And letting him go makes that trade even worse than before...doesn't that count?
