  1. Haven't seen this posted anywhere but there's heavy speculation the Cubs will sign 17 y/o RHP from Mexico League, Florencio Serrano. Sits low 90's, Badler says his curve could be plus in the future. I'm sure most of you here already know, but just in case, if some don't - Mexican League teams normally take 75% of bonuses and MLB only counts the amount actually going to the player against the cap, so we can offer 1.2m, and it appears that should be enough, while staying within our 300K max.
  2. TLS probably would out-produce him at the plate and probably should be up. What the offense desperately needs is more hitters who can handle RHP and Happ has done that much better than most of the guys.
  3. I kinda don't like how you're so calm saying this terrible, terrible thing. Painful year we've had
  4. http://www.mtv.co.uk/sites/default/files/styles/image-w-760-scale/public/mtv_uk/galleries/large/2016/10/05/comeagain.gif?itok=u5MAOyYQ It's not enough to push him out of lineup consideration. There's several top 60 hitters this year with K rates around 30%. Were people hollering for Bryant and Schwarber to be demoted when they were rocking 30% K rates in 2015?
  5. At this point in the season, you have enough of a sample to play the guys who are producing in this year. Montero has been a top 4 hitter on the team. And a lot of people have had issues with Happ still being in Chicago. The reality is, he has raked RHP (126 wRC), and his 32% K rate against them is not too troublesome, more than offset by the power provided.
  6. Short went into an awful BABIP slump but he keeps working tons on walks. Really intrigued by him.
  7. I dig it Might as well give your only 2 good hitters the most AB
  8. So, the indoor bullpens are catching some blame for the first inning struggles, eh?
  9. That gives Eloy 14 walks to 13 Ks, but a 12:13 ratio with the IBB removed.
  10. i feel like you're very close to saying maddon needs to yell at the team On the contrary. Maddon has said multiple times that he doesn't want to overload his young players with information. If anything I'm blaming Maddon. There's so much information available on every single player and the league has surely uncovered much of it to neutralize our hitters. I'm not seeing enough of an answer from our guys to convince me they are making the right adjustments.
  11. I'm fairly convinced total lack of preparation is the culprit for our offensive suckitude. You got a guy coming in who's been taken to the woodshed and they got him looking like the deGrom of old.
  12. Forget the trade deadline. Poach the Yankees hitting coaches.
  13. Schwarber is only 140k votes from starting the ASG. It won't happen, but if it did, it would be hilarious to watch the collective meltdown of the masses. He could easily surpass Zobrist for 4th place if he goes on a little run. I'm surprised that many Cubs fans were actually honest about his season and didn't vote for him. OTOH I wish the whole team would sit it out.
  14. Did anybody know that Blake Parker is 6th in reliever fWAR and has a 0.94 FIP?
  15. Just read that as well. I think it's a bit much to say his best days could be ahead of him but no doubt I'd felt like he'd been rounding back into formidable form before yesterday's outing. I didn't watch or even get to follow the game but he was pretty solid for the first 4 innings before the wheels fell off. He's been very encouraging over his last 7 or so starts.
  16. What's funny is this would happen a ton more if Javy would just leave the bat on his shoulder
  17. Jake is gonna join Nolan Ryan as one of three pitchers to throw no-hitters in 3 consecutive seasons (Koufax holds the record with 4 straight).
  18. Does this outing stick the fork in Underwood starting?
