  1. Grandal is kind of a God among mere mortal catchers
  2. He had that little stretch after the oppo granny where he was crushing balls to LF-LCF but then he destroyed Harvey and it seems like he went right back to trying to yank everything.
  3. A microcosm of Kyle's problems this year was the last AB yesterday. They pounded him outside and he refused to just go with the pitch, instead waiting for something inside, which he promptly rolled over to the 1B. He has so much strength to use the whole field and he needs to start doing it consistently, IMO. I hope we are aggressive with Zagunis and throw him right into the leadoff spot.
  4. Verlander perfect through 5.1 but just threw his 80th pitch Dyson breaks it up with a bunt lol
  5. Agreed. But the total lack of small ball I think will keep us in mediocrity offensively. I'm feeling a lot better about the team as a whole but there are still several glaring weaknesses and batting average is certainly one of them.
  6. Or, 8% of the time he's come to the plate
  7. Butler wasn't exactly great himself. also he was over 90 pitches so it shouldn't be a huge controversy Those are good points and he did look like his usual ugly somehow effective self...
  8. Szczur has a good KBB with the Padres but he hasn't hit for horsefeathers.
  9. Done after 7.1 on a batted ball up the middle that Max deflected into a cheap hit
  10. The thing with Tommy's defense is you pick your poison: either let 1 or 2 bad throws rear their ugly heads at 3B, or watch helplessly as several batted balls find holes at 2B. I think I'd prefer 3B
  11. LaStella has no business playing 3B at the major league level Didn't say I love the defensive alignment. TLS throwing across the diamond inspires about as much confidence as Lackey does on the mound. But I'm expecting to score a lot of runs.
  12. Came across this while reading about Kershaw's sudden home run problem. The author mentions Arrieta's rising HR9, and that 4 of the HR would not have been HR in any ballpark without wind aiding them. http://www.hittrackeronline.com/detail.php?id=2017_356&type=pitcher
  13. Bryant has an OPS of .904, and is still at .808 OPS in the month of June. Last year, when he won the MVP, his OPS entering June 21 was .898. His OPS entering June 27 was .877. He's actually walking more than ever too (15.9%, career-best was 11.8), and his .291 BABIP will likely move up to .330 or so (it was .332 last year and .378 in 2015). His K rate is a career-best 21.3%, though it was even below 20 a couple weeks ago. He's definitely pressing a bit right now and expanding the zone, as well as swinging through or fouling off hangers. But it just looks like a normal slump that happens for everyone (Rizzo goes through like 5 of these a year). He admitted he was dealing with some fatigue and Joe gave him that extra day off. He should be just fine, and will likely go on a tear soon. Definitely not displeased at all with the season he's having, but I feel in order for the offense to really get on a roll, we need him to click back into place. He's just not seeing the ball too well the last week and change. This isn't a doom boner, either. Just simply stating that one half of Bryzzo is on point right now and if the other gets back on track, our offense should really take off.
  14. Friars should call it a dub if they even get Rizzo out in the 1st inning
  15. Really pleased with Almora lately. Joe has been putting him in good position to succeed and he's come through.
