  1. That was a perfect pitch to crush into the RF seats Javy
  2. Yup. 4-6 is also probably “fine.” Face Bauer, Gray, Castillo and Nola. It’s technically a 4 city trip with no off days because next Sunday vs the Pirates they play at the LLWS. But let’s do 6-4. We haven't done too well against Wood either. We did beat him in Jake's first no-no though! KB took him deep. But 2.86 ERA over 34 innings, only 2 dongs. Hes been tough on us. That's a really rough stretch.
  3. Line drives, sure. Ground balls, god I hope not. He was, what, a 40 runner if that? Maybe they did frame it incorrectly, but it does specifically cite grounders. That would be under Jaramillo's direction I suppose. His philosophy was basically be aggressive, put it in play if it's in the zone. Murton was exciting to me when he came up because we hadn't had a position player come up and be successful since Patterson, and he actually had a disciplined approach. I can see those 2 clashing a bit. If they hadn't messed with him, maybe he would've been more successful under Gerald Perry, who was about working counts, letting the pitch get deep and going oppo more often. It's unfortunate that when our offense became elite in 2008 he wasn't a big part of it. It feels like Murton's original approach would've fit that squad really well.
  4. Article about Matt Murton and deadline deals in the Athletic. This struck me as very odd and extremely stupid. Holy horsefeathers that is dumb.
  5. Replaced by a goon named Aristedes Aquino. Hasnt missed a beat. We just need to pound these [expletive] into oblivion. 11% K Schwarber, Happ, Castellanos are like 3 new editions to the offense in the 2nd half. Need them to keep it up.
  6. I'd like to see them reshape the pen and keep those young guys pushing 96-97 around. Provided Underwood finishes out the year strong I think that it would be a mistake to pay for a FA over his salary. At least let the market play out and grab guys for cheap. Let Cishek, Kintzler, and Strop sign elsewhere. There will be intriguing guys ala Kyle Ryan and the plethora of RPs that sign every year for peanuts and surprise on various organizations. Use the money on Castellanos, maybe Baez, a Rizzo extension, Hamels, etc. Cant have them all but that money saved will help get one or two. Relievers are fickle as we all know. You dont need to pay out the nose to build one. There are several really good ones out there without big money guys holding them up. We're too maxed out as it is to keep playing in that market.
  7. Jason: You can pick any three ballplayers who have to defend your yard from 30-50 feral hogs. Go. 1:25 Kiley McDaniel: Mike Trout, Javy Baez, Joey Votto
  8. The DBacks dumped 2 Zack Gs and picked up a different Zac G. I'm confident that's a first.
  9. Only a month old but hes a natural Fly it!
  10. So he launched a ball into the Allegheny with a bad back
  11. were you the "move contreras to the OF and start caratini" guy? Yeah, that was a clear misfire
  12. Nick is now 2 doubles behind Caratini for 9th on the Cubs lol
  13. He does at least still have a good approach at the plate. He might benefit from being a little more aggressive. It's too bad Vic has hit so poorly as a starter.
  14. Its significantly better than that 304/448/609
  15. Soler has gone Trout on us in the 2nd half and has raised his overall line to 20% above average and could possibly crack 2 fwar finally.
  16. So last night JD kept calling the Underwood pitch that Kzone was identifying as a 2-seam as a change-up. They zoomed in on his hand he had the circle grip. But statcast has also identified them as sinkers. Is that Kzone actually just statcast readings?
  17. Twins hit 4 more tonight and are currently on pace to break the MLB record before September begins Lol
  18. I should have noted that I was talking about entering 2021 he could be in that conversation. They seem to have unlocked a more mechanically sound Marquez at South Bend. That was the gist of the coach talk around him at least. Hes been throwing more strikes. The stuff is certainly there. Next year he could have a meteoric rise if he can keep smoothing out those edges. At least top 20 should be very much in reach IMO. And by 2021 a couple of those guys will have graduated... although other guys will surely enter the picture as an offset.
  19. Kemp needs to keep the ball out of the air.
  20. Yep. He got much wilder in the 3rd and 4th giving up lead off walks in both. A little better in the 5th but not much. He threw 20 of his first 25 pitches for strikes. After that, just 30 of his next 54. His FB was sitting 97 in the later innings. Even so, he was unhittable. High-A batters proved able to make more contact, fouling off a lot more pitches than his last two Low-A outings, but anything hit fair was an easy out. May have had some extra adrenaline in the 1st two innings and then the inevitable shakes once it dropped lower. I'm excited to see whether he can maintain his control once he settles in. All in all, pretty horsefeathering good. He's now up to 13 consecutive innings without allowing a hit. So you watched this? I was looking at the log and was wondering how far those fly balls were going. He gave up 5, but I love how he ended his night with a double play grounder. Hes got top 5-10 prospect potential.
  21. I feel like we should have been a lot more aggressive against the worst hitter of the inning
  22. Good lord hes a horsefeathering magician
