  1. Not sure where to put this, but Sasaki's oblique tear has ended his season. And in a fg article they mentioned Erick Fedde is dominating the KBO. I wonder if he will come back stateside, and if so, I would probably be interested. FWIW 30% K rate with a 72% GB rate in 103 IP.
  2. There's noone else in the universe that would make that ranking even if PCA was shelved with a torn achilles.
  3. I feel like they should go this route. His floor is high enough to still be valuable and if he hits above average you have a decent shot at ROY.
  4. It's like the organization is so far behind in this respect and generally feels like they are not adequate in developing swings for this, but then you have PCA. He was a total overhaul and they probably deserve a ton of credit there. Although his aptitude for adjustments is obviously really high to begin with. When he gets stronger, look out.
  5. If he doesn't show something next year the Cubs will give up on him, I bet. He will be difficult to justify a 40 spot at some point as other prospects ascend and make him expendable.
  6. So who wants to gut the farm for Robert? 2/27 remains after this year and 2/40 in club options after that. His plate discipline is worrisome but he is really young, productive AF, and athletic enough to reasonably project positive value across the board for a few more seasons. He's 36th in fwar since 2021 and 21st in wRC+ with a 133.
  7. I don't know what makes you think they won't do anything  They're already linked to 2 major pieces.
  8. He does like to play his hand at the 11th hour. Not sure it really squeezes out the absolute most juice but that's the way he has operated.
  9. I didn't like the Madrigal acquisition and I've been biased and extra critical of him because of that, but when he is healthy and in a groove at the plate he does have potential to be decently valuable. He needs to keep up the doubles, but at any rate, he has been really good since his return. That's probably not going to continue but I can see a 300/350/400 hitter in there. He can work as a super infielder. They need to just DFA Mancini and let Mervis figure it out.
  10. I don't think there's any chance Hoyer has put Horton or PCA on the table for Bednar. But the Cubs system is not such that we can call a handful untouchables IMO. If the Cubs are serious about wanting Bednar I am sure they have found a mutual ground for a deal and it's gonna headline something better than a control-over-stuff LHP who had questions about getting advanced hitters out and is so far seeing a 30% decrease in K rate in his initial exposure to AAA. Wicks has allowed 11 HR in 75 IP this year. Over his 86 AA IP he allowed 14 HR. I'd be over the moon if we could headline a Bednar package with him but I don't see it. I do wonder if they would put Wiggins on the table as a PBTNL that becomes official once he's trade-eligible.
  11. I agree with that. I'm hoping he gets promoted after the TDL and gets some solid AA exposure this year.
  12. Doesn't that essentially boil down to one shuttle year? If they don't trade him, You figure: Hopefully promoted to AA after TDL, maybe not, the injury complicates things and they might be cautious 2024 AA most of the year, AAA toward end, hopefully 2025 AAA and a possible cup of coffee 2026 shuttle if he doesn't stick That's the only true option year he will have. They need to start accelerating his timeline a little bit. I would still be dangling him as my headliner. I wouldn't be thrilled about trading him for a reliever though FTR.
  13. The problem is that Alcantara will be out of options sooner than the Cubs' latitude to let him figure things out could run out. I also hope they utilize him to get a bat but if they are sniffing around David Bednar I think you are facing the probability that you're gonna give up at least one pretty significant prospect.
  14. Unless the Cubs move Happ or Seiya I don't see Alcantara playing for them. I really don't think they would ever trade PCA because of his floor and his swing/FB% + speed creates a sizable ceiling. Alcantara's clock makes him sort of expendable and they should capitalize on his droolworthy ceiling IMO.
  15. I think Alcantara certainly should be in play. Theres a pretty slim chance that he ever plays for the Cubs, they need to solve that roster crunch, and he's dripping with tools on a rare physical stature, he should be quite coveted. Wicks and Ferris probably aren't going to be enough to headline a deal like that. I do think that Ferris would be quite a secondary piece with his pedigree and easy LH velo at a young age. These are exactly the guys that we should be packaging; guys with high ceilings that probably won't be of major consequence for a few years to our MLB roster. Not crazy about buying a reliever and I'll be less than surprised when he falls off a cliff upon donning the Cubs uniform. But it would fill a huge need and keep the near future intact. The Cubs have the depth to withstand a deal like that easily.
  16. I'm really interested to see what Hoykins does. They need to clean up the pending 40 man mess and this feels like a great time to do it. Now is the time to get more long-term fixtures. Protect PCA and Horton, wouldn't be surprised to see Alcantara traded, Ferris seems like an arm that would have good weight to it, and see what Vazquez can get you. Cut bait with Mancini and get Mervis up pronto. You add a couple power bats to the lineup and bring in some help in the pen and this team becomes pretty scary.
  17. 1908 hasn't posted this much in game threads since 2017 lol
  18. It's starting to feel a little 2007-like. I remember it felt like an impossible hill to climb but they got red-hot in the 2nd half and somehow surpassed the CY Sabathias.
  19. Easy to see that stupid ass decision coming back to bite us
  20. Rojas homered again. PCA has a pair of walks Kipp and Birdsell just keep cruising in pretty much each start
  21. Cubs clearly only planned to let Wesneski face the lineup once
  22. We keep trying to attack Nootbar high and he's killed us.
