  1. His Zips projections are basically why bother IMO
  2. That's right, but 95 would've been the same thing. Then again 85 is basically the same thing. NBD. Honestly though, my preferred approach, if you are to limit the workload, would be how I mentioned before. I would think it would be better to get them into a consistent routine and allow them to go full-bore when they are unleashed. IDK. I wouldn't think that, as a pitcher, you would like being yo-yoed and certainly not capped so you can get a little rusty during the stretch run.
  3. Yup. The offense really set us up perfectly to navigate this DH and not wear out the staff for the rest of the series.
  4. He had a tough time locating arm-side for the first inning but settled in nicely. He made one of the best plays off the mound that I've seen a Cubs pitcher make in some time. Really had to be perfect to get DLC and he was.
  5. OTOH he's a sturdy athlete who has thrown that many pitches in a game at some point in his life before and we are playing a double header with Shane Greene starting his first game in 7 years or something in game 2. He did a great job. Now we need to put up a crroked number and keep some stress off of the pen.
  6. That's a little disappointing, though not surprising. I was hoping he would pitch 100 innings this year and be ready for around 130 next year. i had actually been contemplating this; wouldn't it be beneficial to hold him out until around June next year and then have him finish the year out and potentially help us in a playoff race, rather than capping innings before the end of the season?
  7. Not trading for and subsequently signing Mookie was an enormous failure of 28 teams. Dude is unreal. He is realistically about as good of a player that you are ever going to have a chance to acquire. He would have put the Cubs right back on top of the NL. It really grinds my gears that he is a Dodger for another decade.
  8. Acuna launched a slam off of Fat Lynn to become baseball's first 30-60 player. Nice to see the Braves vanquish Lynn's Dodger resurgence, even if only for one start.
  9. Well, the clamor has subsided quite a bit over the last ~10 games when his OPS dropped 200 points. In that same time, however, Tauchman has been pushing a 35 wRC+ and is nowhere near the CF PCA is. I want PCA to start and to eat on defense. The rest is gravy this year. Using him as a PR and defensive specialist would be stupid. He would be a major defensive improvement to an already very good defense. I understand him getting passed over, but it's pretty insane that it was Canario to leapfrog him. How often is he going to get to that power? He has struck out in 20 straight games and has just 1 walk in his last 11 games, with 15 Ks. I get trying to strike while the iron is hot and maybe you get a Morel type of explosion to close the season, which would obviously be incredible, but that's very unlikely. The Cubs added another boom-bust in the Wisdom and Morel mold and didn't really add a dynamic to their roster beyond power potential.
  10. What a crazy turn of events. If you bet on this a month ago you would have made a fortune.
  11. This is just not near the way NFL works in my mind and it's consistently a trap. Every single season is really it's own beast for most teams, unless they have an elite QB. Half of NFL games are coin flips that are often just determined by a couple fluky plays. They won 7 games last year and I wouldn't draw much from that regarding the 2023 outlook. Historically rookie QB's rarely hit the ground running. Overall, the roster is mediocre AF and it's asking a lot of a rookie to make much with it.
  12. Turned that winning streak into a losing streak! horsefeathers yes. Cubs have now won 11 of their last 12 series. That's incredible.
