  1. Really awful loss tonight against a bombed out and depleted Cavs team. Couldn't even crack triple digits.
  2. Yep they positioned themselves perfectly for this off-season. Enough room to get Sasaki next lol
  3. Spurs are so bad, we are 2/22 from 3 and have a lead
  4. IDK I look at the list of signed players and a lot of them just never made any sense for us. I would have liked to have gotten Sonny but he had a QO. Candelario would have been fine, as would have Rodriguez and Lugo. We tried for Lee. Martinez maybe looks like a decent deal. The rest (besides Ohtani and Nola) I feel like we can find a close enough proxy still. I don't blame Jed for not wanting to throw a 300m contract at a pitcher, let alone an import.
  5. Jed did his due diligence on every FA and potential trade fit, that's really it. Some of you guys took that to mean that we were going to land those players or that we were the only team to check in on them. None of those options were givens. We still have interest in a lot of good players as do 2/3 of the teams in the league.
  6. This is really like a IGT in the 3rd inning
  7. Wow that's all it took
  8. Bevell is a great example of the grass is always greener sort of example Kyle brought up with OCs. Seahawks fans bitched about that dude incessantly on this other board I used to post at.
  9. That doesn't mean you trade half of the top 10 for Framber Valdez.
  10. I think if the Cubs add guys who project to combine for 8-10 war they will absolutely have a playoff-competitive team. It's pretty clear though that Hoyer is willing to slow-play their ascension and see what the young players produce this year as well. But you get a guy like Clase at the back of your pen and suddenly you have Alzolay as a lockdown setup guy and Counsell to play the matchups (and use Luke Little) - that alone, IMO, could provide a significant swing in the competiveness of the team. Naylor as a 125 bat who wouldn't need a platoon and puts the ball in play, that would be a difference-maker for the offense. It's ok to add great pieces as you go, and not just wait until you think the team is ready to compete.
  11. Man, Naylor made a massive improvement vs LHP this year. Lefties that can hit lefties are worth their weight in gold IMO. Dude had neutral splits with a 10% K rate vs LHP. Want pretty badly.
  12. Anyone think Moore holds out for a new deal next year? His deal is too good to actually run the course. He knows he is criminally underpaid.
  13. Is that the Catcher Whisperer?
  14. Glasnow took half of that though. I believe Snell is looking for like 7/210. He just won a CY.
  15. Make him the 6th man? Coby is looking like a PG out there. He's really good at creating space and opening passing lanes. Maybe we have our own little version of Haliburton.
  16. He probably wants 200M and teams are like dude you are 31 and just gave out 102 free passes. Probably a little close to Bellinger with the limited interest based on reasonable skepticism. But everyone is waiting on Yamamoto. That guy is holding up all of it now. This domino effect FA is pretty annoying.
  17. He has said Fields is better than all of the QBs coming out. He's a nice friend.
  18. Still hoping they sign Belt and JD and either Imanaga or Montgomery, then a cheap dependable leverage RP like Robertson. I think the Counsell effect needs to be taken into consideration. Jed believes that he put together a playoff team last year and his Manager blew it. He also believes that Counsell had secured a lot of wins over the years that not a lot of Managers would have. So by taking that Manager away from the team that has controlled the division lately he believes they have a shot to take the division back if he at least puts a similarly projected squad out there. He also believes that the farm is better equipped this season to supplement the MLB roster and has a Manager now who will help with their development. I said when the off-season started that I could see him going whale hunting or bargain hunting for bridge types, not much in between. Unfortunately Ohtani allowed us to be finalists but never considered us. The Yamamoto market has gone haywire. We apparently made a serious offer to Lee but lost that one. Soto would have cost Horton and more. I guess I just have a hard time really being mad at Jed here. Unless I wanted Sonny Gray or something.
  19. Nice to bounce back and beat Embiid.
  20. I get the point, I just think that those suitors were always going to be there and the FA actually has to decide he wants to sign with you. Blame Boras for this horsefeathers. People are like, go get the guy(s), but I don't think those players are ready to decide yet, or neither suitor has hit their number and they don't want to accept the fact that they have overpriced themselves. This is all part-and-parcel if you target Boras clients.
  21. How many FA that you wanted have come off the board?
  22. Yeah the Ridder pick was brutal but Panthers started at their 5 and the Falcons just can't get a stop now
  23. Add a couple everyday guys that project for 110-120, sign cheap pen help like David Robertson and Jordan Hicks, and land one of the MORP, preferably Montgomery. Let the rookies really audition. I think I will enjoy the season.
