  1. If so, it wouldn't be a benching so much as an odd man out. I still firmly believe that the best way to nest these guys is with defense. Put Almora in LF, Heyward in RF. Obviously, this means Russell at SS. Javy may be a better all around 2B than Zobrist, but Zobrist has been our one consistent bat this series. I doubt it will go down like this, but if so, it would be nice to have the bats of Schwarber, Javy, and Soler late in the game. Speaking of the game, whomever's up, drag your ass out of bed, wipe away the bourbon laced tears and, and get to work. Yes, definitely let's look to prioritize defense over offense after having been shut out two of the first three games of the series. Makes sense.
  2. well according to rob neyer the only solution is to trade rizzo boy the battle for biggest career drop off among formerly great baseball writers is intense, but neyer is right up there. I read most of his stuff on espn multiple times in the 90s and never missed a chat. he was awesome. but man he is certifiably terrible now. He was a writer for SBNation for a brief period. Anyone who is on the same staff as Al Yellon you have to assume is going to become awful through osmosis.
  3. "This badass future hall of famer is going to be our clubhouse leader!" "No, THIS awesome guy who hit .400 his first postseason is!" First world problems, huh?
  4. If Miguel Montero thinks you're a jerk, you must be a real a-hole. Let's crush this guy and make him wish he were back home bleeding out from another drone injury. We got this. Cubs win big tonight.
  5. How long have you been a Chicago sports fan? I can think of PLENTY of decisions much worse than that. That said, there's no logical reason whatsoever to think Javy wouldn't start tonight... especially with Lester on the mound... especially with knowing the Indians are going to run every chance they get and that Javy is the best tagger in the history of the game. But, hey, kudos on the hyperbole! Benching a guy who's hitting everyone well and playing otherworldly defense to get Chris Coghlan in the game at 2B would be top 5 dumb, which is what I was referring to. In what strange scenario would this actually happen?

  7. As if anyone needed a reason to not go there.
  8. What exactly is it that you think Stubhub is?
  9. Source? This sucks if true. But I guess I can stop getting all excited when I see my open Gmail tab go from "Inbox" to "Inbox (1)" in hopes that it's good news from the Cubs.
  10. Maybe I'm just old and dead inside, or maybe I'm haunted by the fact that we were bad in 2012, but this stuff just doesn't feel as transcendent as it did when I was a kid or even in my 20s. If they win in game 5 while I'm out doing other things, I'll check my phone and see that they won and be happy. I'll watch all the replays and buy some merchandise and read the threads. Hell, if any of the games I'm home for turn into a five-hour extra inning monstrosity, I might just wait till the morning for the end of those too. It's challenging for me to wrap my mind around the idea of a person making 30,000+ posts on a Cubs forum, yet be okay with "doing other things" instead of watching them win the World Series.
  11. Either way, he'll be announced with the rest of the roster before Game 3 and if/when that happens, Wrigley is going to go absolutely insane.
  12. I can't imagine any way Lester doesn't take the ball tomorrow night. I heard the Mike & Mike interview and Joe said he doesn't like to announce these things without talking to the players first - I think he just wants to tell Jake he's going in game two rather than having him find out through the media.
  13. Incredibly classy move by Dave Roberts to not challenge the call at first on the final play. If it's a one run game, he would've (and should've) but down five runs, he showed great awareness and class by not upsetting the moment. Kudos, Dave.
  14. First playoff game I've ever been to. First time going solo to a game in years. Best. Game. Ever. Easily top five life moment for me last night.
  15. Just bought a ticket for this game. Bye bye, $600. If we lose I'm going to regret it big time. If we win, it'll be worth every freaking cent and then some!
  16. As a suburbanite who only gets to Wrigley a few times a year now, realistically how early do I need to get to a Wrigleyville bar before it's one in one out for tomorrow night's game? Thinking Murphy's, Sluggers, Vines or Bernie's - places right by the ballpark.
  17. Cubs are on the verge of winning the pennant and you guys are talking about '03?
  18. I'm confused - is there another lottery occurring for NLCS tix? I got an email last night telling me I'd been selected to have an opportunity to buy tickets to games 6+7 at Wrigley, so I'm assuming that's what that is. Nice, congrats! Last year I got the same "second batch" email and was able to grab a ticket right behind the Cubs dugout (113 or 114 or so) for Game 4. Anecdotal, obviously, but I was thinking that these tickets were seats that were unused by players/corporate sponsors, etc.
  19. please tell me you are going to sell one and then use the money to fly to chicago and attend the game Current plan: Try to buy the max of 4 tickets, sell two, fly to Chicago tomorrow, go on Cubs twitter and offer a ticket at face value to anyone willing to let me sleep on their couch. I'm confused - is there another lottery occurring for NLCS tix?
  20. Addy has a strong case as well. I mean, the 2 HRs are great, but until yesterday he'd been awful and Javy has killed it the whole series, so no. The 2 HR's were both game winning HR's. I'd probably lean Lester, just saying there are multiple guys with cases.
  21. Or Lester Dodgers fans gotta be Dodgers fans, as the stadium is no half empty Addy has a strong case as well.
  22. Do any of you happen to know what "Center Field Accessible" tickets are? Looking at making a purchase on Stubhub.
  23. Montgomery almost certainly not available tomorrow night, which isn't the worst thing in the world. Might as well let him get through the 6th and 7th and then have Grimm go the final two innings - I'd rather have Edwards available than Grimm tomorrow.
