  1. Scratch out the "forgets about" and replace it with "sells" and we would all be horsefeathering elated by that news.
  2. Amazing feat. I don't like Serbians and I will never root for a Serbian athlete (or their team)... That said, he's an incredible player and has a chance to finish with the highest PER (32.88) in NBA history. MJ's highest PER was 31.7 and both Giannis and Jokic will beat that mark this year.
  3. Are there rules on how you have to use it? Like, can Contreras wear it out there but not use it if a runner doesn't get to second base? I think that's the only real competitive advantage at this point, but not sure if they'll let you wear it out there and not use it. Ah, I honestly have no idea... I imagine because the device is new that you're allowed to wear it out there, but don't have to use it everytime. In the article I was reading about it, the catcher said when the pitch is selected an audio response is sent to the pitcher/infielders and also in the catcher's earpiece. The catcher was worried that it was too loud and that the hitter might have overheard it. You can control the volume, but I can understand the catcher being paranoid about that. I'm pretty sure the catcher can use traditional signs along with this device during the game.
  4. I wonder if Ross is talking about Contreras or Gomes (or maybe both) when he says our catchers didn't feel comfortable using it. I'm pretty excited about this tech and it should speed up the game considerably. Also, no more cheating Astros-type shenanigans and the various allegations and denials.
  5. Also found this gem lol:
  6. I don't remember which podcast it was now, but Eric Longenhagen mentioned this and how some analysts with other teams were trying to "reverse engineer" the lineups the Giants were assembling to figure out what they were doing. It's interesting and I'm sure the Giants were doing some cool P/B matchup analysis, but I also think having strong years from their vets (Posey, Crawford, Belt and Longoria) and some random luck were a big part of their success last year.
  7. Bulls lose, but at least we got to see this:
  8. Yeah, thanks. I agree that the Bulls won't do much and probably lose in the first-round, but it could still be an entertaining series (maybe 2-4 series loss with some close games). Miami and Milwaukee would absolutely destroy us and probably Philly too.
  9. Lonzo has been shut down but I think they're just saving Zach for the playoffs at this point... Usually when there is a report of a player being "shut down for the remainder of the season" that also covers the playoffs. They usually need some time to get their conditioning back and get into game-shape and the right mindset. Maybe he could pull off a miraculous Kyle Schwarber-like return if the Bulls made a deep run in the playoffs, but I doubt it. EDIT: Huh, I thought he was talking about Lonzo there for some reason.
  10. I'm glad that they're finally helping minor leaguers with housing, but they also need to pay them more (and during ST and offseason training). This is awesome to see, but also feels like a missed opportunity to stand out from other organizations. If the Cubs had done this a couple years ago it might have made a big difference among amateur players/minor-league FAs and their agents. When players that went undrafted after the 2020 MLB Draft were deciding which team to sign with (for only a max of $20,000 btw), many decided to go sign with KC because they have a good reputation for treating their minor league players well.
  11. Very excited to see him play and I'm happy for Mariners fans. Just please don't struggle mightily like Jarred Kelenic (that fanbase has suffered enough). Also, from the few clips I've seen and everything I've heard about him, he absolutely does seem like a great kid.
  12. I don't think that's a good analogy or realistic best case scenario (like not at all). "Best case scenario for Nico is what we were hoping for Russell to be with less power..." Ah, Nico has way, WAY less power (his IsoP is .078 in the big leagues). He has only hit 3 HRs in 378 career PAs. They are very different players with very different games... Addison always had a shitty approach at the plate and power was the best part of his game offensively. Nico is a good contact hitter with a solid approach, but a definite lack of punch at the plate. Scouts and execs thought Addison had star potential (wrongly), whereas Nico really never was viewed that way. Nico is more versatile on defense and has a solid arm, but Addison had a slightly better arm with a quick release (Javy had the best arm obviously). I think most people here were hoping that Addison would develop into an All-Star level SS because of the glowing scouting reports when we acquired him in the Samardzija trade. I like Nico and I think he'll keep improving, but I wouldn't compare him to Addison Russell... I'm not sure about the best case scenario for Nico, but it isn't that. I would comp him to the late Ryan Freel (I believe I heard this comparison from a scout).
  13. Not sure if anyone posted this weird tribute to great moments in Cubs pitcher hitting lol: I'm all for the universal DH, but I will miss those moments when a Cubs pitcher hits a dong and/or gets a big hit. We've had quite a few pitchers (Fergie Jenkins, Zambrano, Wood, Arrieta, Hendricks) over the years that could really hit, or at least were threats to do some damage with the bat.
  14. So happy that Duke and Coach K are eliminated, but it does feel strange now... I doubt I'll hate Jon Scheyer to the same degree going forward.
  15. Damn, what a catch by Billy Hamilton
  16. So he doesn’t throw for 4 weeks, then what…2-3 weeks after that he’ll start? Early June return I guess. I doubt that... You have to be very careful w/ stress reactions and want to err on the side of caution. I bet he misses a rather significant amount of time this season. I would say in the 2nd half of the season if I had to take a guess. I hate the Mets, but I love watching Jacob deGrom. I wonder if he still opts out of his current contract now.
  17. Great swing. No doubt he's going to get stronger/bigger, so I really don't think you should mess with his swing/bat path right now.
  18. Amazing performance from DeRozan again. So, I know this will be the best season of his entire career when people look back on it after he hangs it up, but I really hope he can be like 80-85% as effective next season. Probably need to explore trading Vooch in the offseason (and pray for better health for Zach + sign him to an extension), while also getting another strong season from DeRozan -- that will all be vital to the Bulls' chances next year.
  19. So many bad takes, but that's pretty common here and not just unique to this thread... I feel like people should go back and watch this. A lot of the positive comments from Kevin O'Connor still hold true in regards to Patrick Williams. He's still super young (20) and has a high ceiling. Other teams were asking about him in trade packages for a reason. I wasn't super high on him leading up to the draft, but it was a good pick and he still has plenty of time to develop and improve.
  20. (deep sigh) viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3347&start=125 I wrote that almost 2 years ago in the 2020 MLB Draft Day Thread... He isn't just suddenly emerging out of nowhere. Bobby Miller has always had good stuff and a great frame (just questions about his command/could he throw enough strikes to be a starter).
  21. He's going to be a reliever (and very much relies on the fastball) at the next level. Scouts have been impressed and he's rising up draft boards. He would go in the 3rd-round currently, and I think maybe rises all the way to early 2nd-round area by draft time as long as he stays healthy. Yes, college pitching sucks this year, but no one takes a pure reliever in the 1st round (for those wondering why he wouldn't go higher).
  22. Lol. I didn't watch the game, just the highlights afterwards. I don't really care about the stats w/ Patrick Williams right now and I'm just glad he's back. He brings positive energy/hustle, and as much as I love Caruso and his defensive intensity, I think PWill has a chance to be our most impactful defender. Caruso can't really matchup against bigs and stronger players in the post/wing area. Hopefully, the confidence keeps growing and the minutes keep rising for him. The Bulls will need his defensive skills in the postseason.
