  1. He has options . Hopefully he goes to AAA and they still have 2 meaningful moves left in the pen .
  2. I am fine with this . I believe both of them will be rule 5 elegible as well . He isn’t a super sexy acquisition but there won’t be any impact bats traded most likely . 24 hours to hopefully get a couple of strong relievers .
  3. I know people don’t want to hear it , but I think trading Morel for a SP makes sense given the roster they have and the players that are sign for the next 3 years
  4. I wouldn’t be surprise if they trade Stroman tomorrow if he pitches well tonight , but the Cubs lose .They would be 5 games back with a tough short term schedule while Milwaukee would be playing bad teams .
  5. Mooney says they are looking for ways to add to the bullpen and another hitter
  6. Rogers mentioned Brad Hand / Suter and Bummer .
  7. They aren’t adding anything meaningful anyway . They don’t have much space under the LT ( 5 million ) and looks like their plan is just to add relief help .
  8. According to Jesse Rogers , the Cubs have told teams Bellinger isn’t going to be traded . Cubs are focusing on adding to the bullpen
  9. This doesn’t look to me like it’s just Levine’s opinion ; I just think it’s appropriate news that a big market team like the Chicago Cubs are going to be interested in the Shohei Ohtani market going forward, according to industry sources. The key there industry sources I doubt they get him but still fun to think about it .
  10. If the Cubs end up making moves , the thought of Morel for a SP with team control is interesting IMO.
  11. I think they will make that decision after sundays game . Jesse Rogers said they will wait until the 11th hour to make the decision .
  12. Jesse Rogers said the Cubs could trade Stroman to give themselves more luxury tax space to make more moves elsewhere .
  13. What a huge win Need 3 of 4 this weekend Rogers says 2-2 probably moves them into the buyers group FWIW
  14. Well Stroman let them down when they needed him the most. Pretty bad for a while now . They need 3 of 4 now at the least in ST Louis and even 3 of 4 may not be enough for them not to sale .
  15. But why do that if you don’t have to? They’d still like some wiggle room for in-season moves as well. I’m sure the Cubs will up their offer a little bit (perhaps quite a bit) if they feel the need to here. Right now it sure appears they’re in a position of power. If it were me I would offer 5/125 and try to get this done. I know is unlikely but the Dodgers are still trying to move money and you never know they may find someone stupid enough to help them . For a pitcher that was expected to get 6 / 150 or more 5/ 125 is still a good deal for the Cubs. I get wanting to take advantage of the leverage they seem to have but is risky IMO. They would still have like 8 - 10 for moves during season and they can save some by cutting Grimm.
  16. There is no indication the Twins are out on Darvish. I would say they are the biggest competition for the Cubs if Darvish is going for the money. Yankees and Dodgers need to make trades to get rid of money first.
  17. It can be done they just wouldn’t be able to do anything else before the season starts. I would be alright with Caratini as backup C. They don’t need another OF with multiple guys able to play different positions. Yes another reliever would be nice but to have Darvish in the rotation I would go with the current bullpen and see what they need come trade deadline time.
  18. I honestly doubt Levine said this. I think if this were true he would have put it on his Twitter or something. I Wouldn’t be surprised if the guy who claims he heard this got confused with something Levine mentioned. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/01/02/cubs-2018-needs-additions-arrieta-darvish-cobb-yelich/ He brought up Cain a few days ago. Yeah I know he brought Cain up the other day but is another thing to say the Cubs actually have an offer on the table. With that said there is a poster on another board who heard the show as well and that póster said Levine mentioned the Cubs have 8 offers out between FA and trade proposals. Trade offers are for Archer / Colé / Yelich and Colome.

  20. Personally, I don't think their AAV's wind up THAT close. My guess at this point is 4/70 on Cobb and 5/140 for Yu. I'd still take Yu in that scenario myself. If Cobb costs that much I'd rather just grab Jaime Garcia or someone similarly mediocre on a 1 or 2 year deal. Cobb's not actually all that good. I agree big picture though. On the pitching front we've probably got two moves left, and on the position player front we're probably done but we'll look to be opportunistic. Darvish and a super cheap reliever in February looks like the smart money right now, but I could just as easily see something like Cobb and Reed. I probably start Montgomery than signing Garcia.
