If the Mariners put Woo on the offer , I think the Cubs will have a difficult time matching that . I think Woo has a higher ceiling than any of the Cubs pitchers with the exception of Horton . Just my opinion . Brown has a high ceiling but I take Woo over him . Woo already in the big leagues . -

Looks like Ohtani is expected to sign before the start of the winter meetings . That’s a bit surprising . Thought he would sign at the winter meetings . Cubs will have plenty of time to pivot

According to Mooney and Sharma , the Cubs view Hoskins as a good fit for the roster . Not really surprising . I think the chances of this one happening are really high .

Who said they will offer a short term average deal ? They could offer 10 / 400 and still be outbid by a wide margin . I have seen he could get 450 even 500 . I just don’t see the Cubs doing those kind of numbers if it gets to that point .

I think it was reported when Ohtani came to the states than the Cubs really impressed him with their presentation , but the problem the Cubs had was that there was no DH in the national league . It’s possible Ohtani likes the Cubs , but at the end i dont think they will come close enough with the money . As Sharma wrote they will likely get outbid by a wide margin

Don’t think they will get Ohtani or Yakamoto . My guess is they will sign the lefty Japanese ( Imanaga ) ? A couple of relievers at 5 AAV , Hoskins on a 1 year deal to play 1B and trade for Soto

Rogers also said that he thinks the chances of Ohtani signing with the Cubs are higher than Bellinger coming back . Also mentioned that maybe they could sign Matt Chapman because they need a 3B .

FWIW Jesse Rogers was just on ESPN 1000 and said he thinks the Cubs will seriously pursue Ohtani . They seriously want him and they won’t just pursue for show . He also said he thinks their main plan for SP are the Japanese ones .

Shocking move to start the offseason . I think Ross is pretty bad as a manager but didn’t think Hoyer would have the balls to replace him this offseason . Counsel is one of the best if not the best manager in baseball . Great move by the Cubs . In terms of what this means for this offseason and going all in ? Hard to tell . After all Counsel is getting a record deal for a manager .Cubs will go over the LT for sure but how much above it it’s the big question .

Was hoping he opted out TBH . While the overall work was good , he was kind of a mixed bag IMO. Awful early during his 1st year , then really good . This year great early on and completely awful late . Injuries are becoming more of an issue as he gets older . Much needed LT space opens up. Hopefully Smyly wants to start and they have told him no , so he opts out as well . From Stroman perspective he has probably found enough interest already that he thinks a multi year deal is possible . Another possibility is he thought the Cubs would trade him and he could end up somewhere he didn’t like .

IDK how much Interest the O’s would have in a Stroman for Santander trade , but I think Santander would be a good fit for the Cubs . One arbitration year left and could be used at 1B / DH .

The obvious fit considering the roster is signing Ohtani and trading for Alonso . Not going to happen but it makes so much sense .. -
Dodgers are the perfect example of how difficult it is to win the World Series . They have been to the playoffs for what 12 straight years now ? Amazing that they only have 1 ring to show for it . In Danger of getting eliminated early again .

Brewers 3 outs from elimination . It will be interesting to watch what they do this offseason . Burnes and Woodruff have 1 year left . Williams 2 expensive years . Counsel may leave . Adames has 1 year left as well

Alonso seems like a more realistic possibility to me than Soto . Soto is a difficult fit for this roster . Happ and Suzuki won’t be moved to DH and Soto won’t be a DH . Soto isn’t playing 1B anytime soon . The Alonso rumors aren’t coming only from Chicago guys . I read that Morosi said Cubs and Mariners will be 1st in line if and when Alonso is put on the block .

Jesse Rogers thinks the Cubs will be looking at big trades this offseason . Alonso on radar and added that Alonso wants to come to the Cubs FWIW .

Please stay away from Matt Chapman . Yes he can play elite defense , but he isn’t what this team needs on offense . If they are spending 20+ million on a position player , let it be a true star

I think the arbi guys will cost about 6 mil . That takes them to 72 . Of those 72 take 5-10 for in season moves and you have in reality between 62-67 to use before the start of the season . Stroman is staying That’s why o said earlier a lot less money available than what we thought before this season started .

They are not spending on Ohtani . Fangraphs has them at 158 million with the LT not counting the 6 arbi elegible guys . The 1st tier of the luxury tax will be 237 next year but I would imagine they separate 5-10 for in season moves . Not as much money available compared to what we thought they would have when the 23 season started. They will need to make several trades IMO. Thats assuming Rickets will allow them to go near the LT which is far from a guarantee. Not too long ago Rosenthal said next years budget would be determined by how they finish the year . After this epic collapse , Ricketts May decide to cut payroll

Rea is making them look silly This team is completely broken . Hard to believe that they are going out like this . The marlins could lose all 3 and they probably still don’t catch them .

I personally like Kapler . Would fire Ross for him but in reality Ross job is safe . Hoyer seems to love him for whatever reason
