  1. I agree - I don't know how you pitch to him there. I flipped away assuming the walk was coming.
  2. Cubs are unbeaten with Schwarber on the roster!
  3. ??? Schwarber's not here to ride the pine for %*#@'s sake.
  4. Should have pinch hit for Denorfia there!
  5. Any chance they pinch hit for Denorfia here?
  6. Was a little bit surprised that Mark Teixeira has walked the same amount of times that he has struck out: 35. Looking a little bit deeper he has had one full season in which he struck out less than 100 times; 93 in 2008 he walked 97 times. While he's mostly had a decent ratio he's never been all that close to walking more than striking out in any other year.
  7. 6 but if he's still hurt we can get Phil from accounting to play under his name for the 6 games - they never card until the playoffs.
  8. Sounds like someone who would frequent the Mos Eisley Cantina. Him and my prom date.
  9. Are we not over bitching about the significance of wins as a stat? Anybody that it really matters to understands its limitations. Is maintaining it preventing some other stat from being calculated? Do we really care if some meatball who watches 4 games a year doesn't understand that. Like someone posted earlier it's not 2003 anymore or is this just an exercise lording a pinch of understanding over the unwashed masses. There is no more precarious position than that of the person perched upon the point of their paste and paper pyramid of greater enlightenment. I certainly would never argue that wins were a particularly meaningful stat - however I would absolutely argue that saying they are completely meaningless is false - lots of stats can be misleading if not given the proper context. I would also wager some decent money that 10 years from now that some sabermetric stats or calculations that are taken as gospel now will be lying in heaps at the bottom of that pyramid of enlightenment.
  10. Send him to Chicago - picked him up in my keeper league last week.
  11. Please drop Cron and add Machado. Thanks
  12. Would it have been detrimental to the team to have Wood pinch hit for the clean-up hitter there?
  13. =D> I saw Gregg was coming in and instinctively thought " Hey, this is an opportunity!" Clicked away for what seemed like 2 seconds and returned to a 2 spot! =D>
  14. Mel Hall is pretty [expletive] creepy too Had to google who he was. I regret that decision! Damn, really? There was a long article on it sometime in the last year or two. It was fascinating and super creepy. http://www.sbnation.com/2014/7/15/5883593/the-many-crimes-of-mel-hall Not sure if that's what you looked at already Wow. I remember hearing something about Hall and an underage girl but never any details. As a parent of a 13 year old that is beyond scary.
  15. Yeah, that was the first time I heard of it being an issue. Also the first time the Cubs had a prospect worth considering that as an issue. I remember a quote from some writer along the lines of the Cubs are obviously going to win the the WS since they apparently have 5 better starting pitchers than Kerry Wood. Not a writer: EDIT: Figures....beaten by an edit. I'm sure Terry Collins has written something at some point in time!! But yeah that was it.

  17. Calling 2 dongs for Szczur today...Kris who?
  18. A- Abreu B- Cabrera, Rizzo C- Dickerson, Tulowitzki, Braun D -Harper, Headley, H. Ramirez, Cron, Trumbo
  19. who gives a [expletive] it was funny to be reminded the other day that lou flipped his lid when the 07 team started 0-4 in ST. i had forgotten what a lunatic he was now and then (like when he decided to move z to the pen one day out of nowhere). It was a stupid move that no one agreed with, but it wasn't out of nowhere. He was horrible to start the year. it was four starts I'd assumed there was some clubhouse stuff going on as well.
  20. ??? 1) count the number of years with inflation and deflation and defend those being equally likely Then we're due for deflation. Regression to the mean. Unfortunately the mean is still infationary. I don't think Cameron has it right. Who cares what the stock market return is - that's not the either or situation here and the time value of money isn't based on stock market return. The discounts rates on the various payments need to be different - the Nats aren't sitting on $210 million today - some of that money isn't going to be earned by the Nats until 6 years from now.
  21. Not really. There has only been 1 period of deflation in the US since the 40's. 2008 - 2009. Easiest example of the present value of money is a lottery pay out. You win $100 million, they either give you $10mill a year over 10 years or a lump sum of 60 million (I'm fudging the amount). you can read the posted link if you want the calcs.
  22. Sure and then post one that he reaches for 6 inches off the plate that's called a strike. I'm not dismissing framing, it is certainly not without merit. I do think it's impact is currently being over estimated. However I also think it is a very teachable and acquirable skill - some players are always going to be better - but its not foot speed.
  23. yeah, the first post was insanity but suggesting acquiring eovaldi would require russell is kinda nuts too. I think the implication was that Olt is so bad he would negate much of Russell's value.
