  1. On the replay you see Zobrist running full out on contact and he never slows down - cliche alert - that's not going to show up in the box score but that run doesn't score otherwise.
  2. How could you not? Russell, especially, looked lost at the plate prior to yesterday. Players fall into "cold streaks" for various tangible reasons - some timing mechanism goes off, swinging at pitchers pitches, a breakdown in swing mechanics. It's not like he was hitting the crap out of the ball but right at the fielders. I feel better because it's possible he recognized some flaw and corrected it - he may still strike out 5 times tonight - but I feel better because at least yesterday he was making better contact - which for him has been an issue at times.
  3. Someone posted at pic towards the end of yesterdays game thread where he looks clearly out - well much more than the one showing the fingertips nearing the plate.
  4. Dozier has a legitimate chance to set the all time single season record for HR as a 2B, which is currently 42 by Rogers Hornsby in 1922. davey johnson hit 43 home runs as a 2B in 1973. i remember that stupid fact because sandberg was the first 2B since johnson to hit 40 or more home runs when he did it in 1990. I don't think all were while playing 2B - at least 1 was as a PH.
  5. If you just swing 3 times before the 1st pitch is it an out?
  6. This! I was like "Christ Zobrist it's like your head's not in the game!!"
  7. That's the one! Thanks. I guess he's only briefly off the ground but still a hell of a tag. And as it turns out the girl was from an Alan Thicke video so...you know...thank God for instant replay!
  8. Don't know if anyone has the clip - it was a recent game but I'm not sure which one - where on an attempted steal by the opposing team it seemed like Javy left his feet, angled his body backward to allow the ball to travel on its own as far as possible and caught the ball and applied the tag for the out while still off of his feet. I then recall Bowie and Freddie Mercury descending from the skies and singing a medley of Heroes and We Are The Champions while the girl from that Robin Thicke video held up a sign, that only I could see, with her phone number and address on it while mouthing "I like chubby middle aged men". So I may not be remembering it exactly right so I wouldn't mind seeing the clip again because I thought it was one of the best tags I'd ever seen and I couldn't quite make out the last digit of the phone number. Thanks in advance.
  9. With Girardi's seemingly steadfast refusal to play A-Rod prior to his release does anyone think there was some incident behind the scenes that we haven't heard about? Possibly even that lead to the release in the first place? Obviously he's not playing well but the Yankees have packed it in too. Got to think chasing 700 would have at least put some butts in the seats.
  10. The aram game vs the brewers in 07 was a 5 run comeback. Seems in most years good teams have a kick ass comeback The '84 "Sandberg Game" where Costas is announcing Willie Mcgee as the player of the game as Ryno takes Sutter deep (twice!!) with the credits rolling is untouchable for me.
  11. Saw his stats from his rookie season a little while back and was blown away - never sniffed those numbers again 96 375 344 41 114 18 4 15 67 0 1 28 48 .331 .381 .538 .919
  12. University football game north of the border. Western (the rich kids school) is visiting Guelph (the farm kids school) -3rd quarter, what seemed like the entire crowds begins chanting "Daddy's money's no good here! Daddy's money's no good here!" Good Times.
  13. Hmm...what are the chances he gets called up? I'm pretty desperate for a C (had Schwarber as a keeper) in my yahoo league and the pickings are pretty slim (14 teams, 2 Cs). I have Perzinsky now but ever since I've been starting him there's a little bit of puke on my pillow when I wake up in the morning.
  14. I see what you did there. =D>
  15. Would he qualify as a bust? I'd say disappointment. Josh Vitters was a bust. imo
  16. Would the fact that catchers have shorter careers skew those numbers at all or has that been accounted for?
  17. I like this idea. My fix is (I know it absolutely would never happen) there's still the voting aspect for those who fall short of the objective/measurable criteria but a player automatically gets in if they reach any of the following criteria; - 1 season of 10 WAR or more - in your 5 best years you averaged 7 WAR or more (ball park guess on years/WAR average) - if you exceed a certain total WAR for you career (probably around 70ish). Those are the rough parameters at least of what I'd propose or like to see. At the end of the day though I really couldn't care less about the HOF and who gets in/doesn't and the yearly outrage over who votes for who or what criteria they use. What happens when they revise the way WAR is calculated and players drop in and out of those parameters?
  18. I think more of gordon when I think of his ceiling. I think Heyward has a defensive ceiling as a plus CF and has shown the power to be a 30 HR guy. A Mark Grace that can play the OF?
  19. Double Double post y'all.
  20. Indians were publically traded somewhat recently iirc.
  21. Sandberg's 2 HRs on NBC's game of the week in 1984. The 1st as Costas is announcing Willie Mcgee as player of the game and the 2nd as Costas is reading off the credits.
  22. The bouncy one from Winnie The Pooh?
  23. I'm in Toronto - if they played the Jays and lost I'm seriously not sure I could handle it.
